How to change the folder opens when windows Explorer opens
In XP Service Pack 3, when Win Explorer is open, files that open has changed on its own (or I don't know what I did to cause this change). Records of Documents are all posted, but the C: drive is closed, where it will display all folders to open at this stage.
How can I reset so that all the files under C: drive open when I open Win Explorer?

A type of file has lost its association to open with Windows Explorer
On my machine the XP Acronis True Image Archive of backup .tib file type opens with Windows Explorer and I see in the details of the files in the backup.
On my machine the association used to be with Windows Explorer Vista, but recently the association has changed. I can't figure out how to restore it.
When it is correctly associated, I can read files in Windows Explorer, but no more.
When I right click on the file and select Properties, it gives me the ability to change opens with Adobe Reader, Internet Explorer, iTunes, Media Center, Notepad, paint, PowerDVD, RealPlayer, Windows Calendar, Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Gallery, Word Pad or browse...
I was hoping to go to Windows Explorer, but I was not able to find it. Is it in a folder hidden somewhere?
Hello David Reed Peterson,.
Thanks for the return of the response. Please see the link below to see if any of the listed steps will fix this for you.
Windows Explorer has lost its "file Association".
If this started recently, have you tried a system restore to a point in time when it worked correctly?

The action cannot be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer.
OK, it seems to be coming a lot but no one was able to respond (including Microsoft) so I'll ask, and be as specific as possible.
Because I work with vector art that I constantly have to save files by crush the and everything was cool with WinXP pro. I have Win7 Pro and everything was cool, until recently. Whenever I tried to overwrite my files, I would get an error message saying that the file was either dead or opened elsewhere, but it has happened about 50% of the time. A launch the re-registration of files with different names. After obtaining the files re-registered I then try to remove and rename files, but found I couldn't do it anymore, as I was constantly getting the error message "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer." Closing and reopening the browser do nothing. Someone said if not empty the trash bin works, but not for me. The files are on an external drive, I tried to disable the cache of writing by Device Manager and Windows Management Console (or other) frozen and took the pc with it (nice work, MS!). Reboot seems to fix the problem for a bit, but he returned quickly and randomly. It also seems to randomly select to lock files. Some files I can not change, some that I can. Others begin to operate after some time of inactivity.
I tried to disable thumbnails in Explorer and even added a DWORD NoThumbnailCache in the registry, but it still happens. Basically, I'll have to save all of the new files over and over again and that from time to time be able to remove the "old" while being only randomly too write others. This question seems to be infestation Vista and Win7 and people have waited for a fix, Microsoft, but was mum on the issue. If anyone can come up with a solution, it would be great. It is killing my productivity!
Common guys...
Im having this problem too and I've been thought IE9 is at the origin of the problem, some how, I don't want to disturb...Here are some solutions:
Please note that I'm looking, there is not any solution patch for this program by Microsoft, you can maintain it yourself. And correct solutions in this way losses.Solution 1: Use CMD.
0 - note the following 3 steps will complete the process explorer.exe, so your desktop and windows Explorer all open files and any associated process would stop.
1. run the Task Manager. (by pressing ctrl + shift + esc or etc)
2 - go to the processes tab.
3 - find "explorer.exe" and click on the button "complete the process". If you find several explorer.exe, kill them all.
4. now, click the menu file-> new task (run...)
5 type CMD, and then click OK.
6. now you can do something you couldn't have done before with this user interface. Some useful commands:
-cd: change the current directory. Use 'CD..' to the 'button' in windows Explorer.
-dir: lists the existing file and folders in the directory current. Use ' dir/p' to the list in the pages.
-del [file name]: removes the file [filename] existing in the current directory.
-Rename [name of file] [new file name]: rename the file [old file name] existing or a file existing in the current directory to [new file name].Solution 2: Use a different file manager.
0 - install and run another Manager file as "XYPlore".
1 Note that the following 3 steps will end your explorer.exe process, so your desktop and windows Explorer all open records and all other related processes would cease.
2. run the Task Manager. (by pressing ctrl + shift + esc or etc)
3 - go to the processes tab.
4 - find "explorer.exe" and click on the button "complete the process". If you find several explorer.exe, kill them all.
5. use XYPlore UI and do what you want.
Please note that the problem could happen with this kind of external explorers too. So close any file and go into a secure after your working directory.Solution 3: Do it yourself!
If you can program, there are some codes that might help you. These codes which talks about Im, says MS Windows to remove your annoying pinned files just before you shut down the system.
Here is an example:
MoveFileEx ('C:\windows\system32\ld21E.tmp', nil, MOVEFILE_REPLACE_EXISTING or MOVEFILE_DELAY_UNTIL_REBOOT);
This code will work correctly in Delphi from Borland compilers, and as you can see, the "ld21e.tmp" file is deleted after compiling this code and restart your windows.I wish I can do better, as to publish an Explorer that do what you want automatically, so I hope that these can be useful.
Some how you can check this thread too, it may be useful:

Firefox crashes when you open a windows Explorer window
I had this problem for 2 days, every time Firefox opens a windows Explorer window it would completely freeze, so every time I have try to save an image, look for a file/folder and so on. The problem started last night, but I had not added Add ons for firefox, plugins or installed new software on my pc. I tried to leave firefox alone when he did freeze to see if it be sorted, but when I went to check on it four hours later it was still frozen.
My current operating system is Windows Vista, with a fresh install of the latest Firefox. Before I reinstalled it, I tried to launch reseting Firefox in safe mode, and delete my history, which none worked, neither does the new installation solved my problem.
I just did a scan of my PC virus and it seems that the problem has been corrected, if someone else has this problem, scan your pc for viruses and to get rid of them, I hope that the problem should disappear as it has done for me.

While a move file was download of my browser (mozilla firefox) crashed and the download did not complete putting a partial file on my system. I tried to open file to enter into competition with my DivX software more player and thought after a short so he received the message that I needed to update the codec files to open. I have not hurt to open these types of files before and that's when I noticed the size of the file and understood that I didn't have a complete file. Thus, tried to delete and that's when I get the error message saying that I can't remove it because another program was using in or the file is already open in Windows Explorer. Can not understand this one. Stupid me, I copied it and now I have 2 files I can't remove. Checked in Task Manager thinking I could understand and ceased from Windows Explorer who lost only what was on my desk and I had to restart and hoped by rebooting might solve the problem. Nothing yet, that is why I am seeking help...
Hello
Were there any changes (hardware or software) to the computer before the show?
Method 1 : delete the file in safe mode and check if the problem is solved or not.
Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not work in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed.
Start your computer in SafeMode (Windows 7)
Method 2 : perform the steps in the article and check if the problem is solved or not.
Why can't I delete a file or a folder?
Hope that helps.

Adobe Pro XI - use the operating system to Windows 7 Pro
When a PDF document is open in Windows Explorer, and pages are added, deleted, ratings, all types of changes, he cannot be saved until the Windows Explorer is completely closed. If you try to save the document, you receive the error message next - "the document could not be saved. The file may be read-only, or another user may have his opening. Please save the document under a different name or in a different folder. «I have confirmed the document is not read only, it is not open by another user, and this is not open many times.» Once completely, you close Windows Explorer and try to save the document, it saves without problem.
Are there settings in Adobe Pro XI or Windows that allows you to save documents without closing Windows Explorer first?
Thanks for any help you can provide. This error is a frustration because I open all my documents via Windows Explorer.

Now, I closed "Adobe Application Manager" and reopened "Photoshop" and again selected "updates... " on the Help menu. The "Adobe Application Manager" opened again with just a window this time and the updates happened correctly.
I was hoping a updates would be the "Adobe Application Manager", I don't think so.
So, if I were you I would not select "Updates."... "in an Adobe application unless the " Adobe Application Manager " is closed until they fix IT...
Current version: Adobe® Application Manager - Version 7.0.0.128 (7.0.0.128) notes the two windows in the "Adobe Application Manager" in the attached image.
If you read my entire post you would have seen that after closeing "Adobe Application Manager" updates completed normally next time I chose "updates... "in the Help menu in Photoshop.

Whenever I start my laptop (windows 7) windows Explorer opens with the desktop folder. I can't stop what's happening, and it drives me crazy (well there really difference, I just closed but it's just one of those things I can't stop annoying)
Please can someone tell me how I can prevent this? I tried MSCONFIG, but I see nothing there that refers to the folder of the office.
Thank you
Hi Ellen
He is a longshot, but try the following and be careful when you edit the registry.
Open the Registry Editor and navigate to the following key.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
In the right window, look at the Shell value.
This value should show Explorer.exe and nothuing else.
If it shows than anything else, right-click the Shell value and select modify.
Delete everything in the value data area except Explorer.exe.
Click OK.
If you have made any changes, restart and test the results.
NOTE: Make sure that you do not delete the Explorer.exe in the value of the hull, since it is responsible for displaying the interface of windows when you start the computer.
If it does not, when you start the computer and the desktop folder pops up, look at the path in the address bar to this folder. Click on an empty spot in the address bar and copy / paste this path into an answer here.
