  Here is a simple test to you and all your colleagues in the technical support engineer:

  Rename or delete just your c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe file is "missing".

  Rename rundll32.exe---> rundll32.xxx

  If you started normally, before you can blink, the 'missing' rundll32.exe file quickly and quietly replace the copy in the dllcache folder.  It is the Protection of Windows file in action and you will see something like this in the Event Viewer log system:

  Event type: Information
  Event source: Windows File Protection
  Event category: no
  Event ID: 64002
  Description:
  File replacement was attempted on the protected system file c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe. This file was restored to the original version to maintain system stability. The file version of the system file is 5.1.2600.5512.

  I beg you to perform this simple test to know how the sfc/scannow:

  Boot your system to Safe Mode or the recovery for the Windows File Protection Console does not run.

  For this example, we will use the system critical file rundll32.exe.

  Rename or delete your c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe.exe file so the file is now "missing."

  A critical file, is it true?  It is on the list of the file 3498 knows the Protection of Windows and SFC files, but now he isn't.

  Only, I've migrated to Vista Ultimate x 64 to Windows 7 Professional x 64.  I used Laplink to move all my users, programs, and settings.  Everything is great, except now there is an icon on the desktop for all my users that I can't get rid of - it connects to the control panel and is called "All Control Panel items" - it cannot be deleted or moved to the Recycle Bin.   My copy of thunderbird doesn't have a control panel so that I can make adjustments. In other words, my copy doesn't look like yours.

  No idea who 'your' is that you compare to but maybe that you note that more recent versions have hidden MENU bar and button AppMenu.
  You can reveal the menu bars hidden in most applications, including Thunderbird, pressing alt or F10.
  When the menu bar is displayed, select View-Toolbars and make sure the toolbars you want to be visible all the time. You can access the functions by using the AppMenu but they moved the menu choices and they not corresponding to any of the existing documentation.
  If this isn't your question please post more details because there was nothing in Thunderbird called control panel.
