How to protect virtual machines of accidentally delete?

Hi guys!

-There is an option to protect VMS accidentally deleted in vSpehre 4.0?

-There is no command as vmfs-undelete used in ESX 3.5 but in vSphere 4.0?

Thanks a lot for your help.

I would like to use the permissions to prevent this, for example have admins normal and in the role to remove virtual machine uncontrolled and have then a company for you Administrator role will be all the permissions.

a_l'_aide_de roles and assigning them to ad groups are great, we have currently to expand the restricted permission just so that admins can do what they do as add disks, add memory, stop, start, vmotion etc.) then the virtual team have all the permissions. That you had people not really knowing what they were not able to cause too much damage. He stopped d ' assign work for me because of the deletetions at random, cluster Exchange data etc. store problems.

  • Manual removal placeholder VMs when the protected virtual machine is removed

    We run SRM 5.5. We had some VMs protected, we need more, so they have been removed from the drive (I can't). When I found out about it, I went in SRM and removed the protection for these deleted virtual machines. Most of the VMS placeholder have been correctly removed by this procedure, however, I see still 2 VMs of space reserved for virtual computers that no longer exist. No idea why only these 2 (about 6) were not cleaned.

    My question: can I remove manually just these VMs placeholder? They are not in any group of protection, or the stimulus plan. And the protected virtual machines which correspond to these placeholders no longer exist. It's as if they are zombie placeholders. :-)

    There is no problem with me removing the VMs placeholder manually, y at - it?

    Hello

    Yes, its safe to delete the place holder vm.  Make sure the source VM is not protected and no replication is configured. Restart the SRM service.

  • HOWTO delete a VMDK to a virtual machine without actually deleting the vmdk disk file?

    How to remove a file VMDK to a virtual machine without actually deleting the vmdk disk file?

    Details:

    My perl script, I need to temporarily remove a vmdk to a virtual machine file. However I do not want the vmdk file should be removed from the virtual machine. For example, the gui vsphere provides this option to delete a virtual disk without deleting the virtual disk from the disk files.

    In my script, I use the ReconfigVM_Task to do this. This does the job, but also removes the vmdk file. How can ensure me that the vmdk file will not delete the disk?

    The code snippet is something are:

    My $devspec = VirtualDeviceConfigSpec-> new)

    device = > $device,

    #device to delete above:

    operation = > VirtualDeviceConfigSpecOperation-> new ('remove'));

    Push (@$ devspec_list, $devspec);

    My $config_spec = VirtualMachineConfigSpec-> new)

    deviceChange = > $devspec_list

    );

    my $task = $template_view-> ReconfigVM_Task (spec = > $config_spec);

  • How to recover virtual machines after a planned recovery

    Hello

    I did successfully a planned resumption of a VM and it went well.  I use replication of vSphere.  Now I want to recover the virtual machine on the protected site, but I found that I can't use reprotect, since I do not use replication based on the Bay.

    I tried to create a new plan of stimulus on the recovering site, but I get an error message saying that there is already a recovery plan for this virtual machine.

    How can I return my virtual machine on the protected site?  Should I first delete the recovery plan?

    Thank you.

    Try this

  • How to list virtual machines with associated vmdk files

    Hello.

    I have a folder vmfs and file vmdk with names that aren't like any virtual machine name (probably because that rename the virtual computer name).

    How can I find what VM is?

    Thank you

    Hello, biokovo-

    You can use the standard Get - VM and hard to find names of VMDK VMs-associated cmdlets Get-disc.  Or another, much more quickly elsewhere, would be to use everyone's favorite: Get-View.

    Since you know the path of the data store for the VMDK, you can check the property LayoutEx of virtual machines to find the virtual machine that said the file property with the name of the value as the games way to store data, as:

    $strVmdkDatastorePath = "[mydatastore] somefolder/somefile.vmdk"Get-View -ViewType VirtualMachine -Property Name,LayoutEx.File | ?{$_.LayoutEx.File | ?{$_.Name -eq $strVmdkDatastorePath}} | select name

    Where the path of the data store's format, "[datastoreName] folder/somefile.vmdk.  Yes, including the square brackets around the name of the data store and a space after the "]" (before the first character of the name of the folder).

    How does do for you?  (must be straight fast)

    Browse the data store, right-click on vmx for each virtual computer.  Add to the inventory.  Now, you can access and start them.

  • How to move virtual machines from one host to another without full VI and vMotion?

    Hello

    could you help me with a question?

    I have two installed hosts with ESXi 3.5 U5, which are connected to the shared iSCSI (Openfiler) - VMs storage are installed on the storage disk. My requirement is to have a cheap solution of DR - in case of failure of a host, I need to move and start VM on the host of work. How to achieve without going through VMware Infrastructure 3.5 and vMotion?

    I found this article:

    http://www.virtualizetips.com/2010/04/how-to-move-a-VM-without-vCenter-or-storage-VMotion/

    but RCLI needs Infrastructure of VMware ESXi does not have default CLI So, how to move VMs between hosts (of course I mean "cold" move) without byuing any additonal VMware SW? It is generally possible in my situation?

    Thank you.

    ARO

    Danas

    If the virtual machines are running in shared storage (two guests see the same storage iSCSI or NFS) then it's simple. If a host goes down, then look for the data store on the ESXi host work. Navigate through folders for each virtual machine, right-click on the VMX file and add to the inventory. You will then be able to turn on the virtual machine.

    To move a virtual machine from one host to another, as long as both hosts had the same processors, you can pause the VM on the single host, browse and add the virtual machine to the inventory on the second break host and the United Nations.

    If the virtual machines are on local storage, but the two hosts are connected to the same shared storage, clone virtual machines on a daily basis from local storage to shared storage. Use something like ghettoVCB http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-8760 make the clone. In the case of a server failure, you will be able to browse the data store, add to the inventory on the shared storage and switch the cloned machine.

  • How to migrate virtual machines from the virtual server MS in Lab Manager?

    We migrate our environment. So primary question is - how to migrate our MS VirtualServer VMs to Lab Manager?

    BR

    Hello

    Have you tried using using VMware vCenter Converter?  It can take Virtual PC machines and turn them into VMs VMware (.vmdks), you should then be able to manufacture models of VMware virtual machines, import them into the Lab Manager and voila.

  • How can ping virtual machine on VMware Server external network?

    In the Vmware infrastructure products you can can be crazy from the outside through their individual networks connections, which is a good thing... lol

    How this is possible on VMware Server when guests use the VMnet8 network that uses NAT?

    In many scenarios, the use of bypass is prohibited due to the policy defined at the level of the external switch, but it is still necessary for the basic functionality of ping. Otherwise, how they would be able to know if a virtual machine is actually up to who answered the questionnaire on the network without entering actual connections to such hosts?

    You're right - that's how NAT works (whether via a service such as the VMware NAT service software or a hardware router/firewall NAT).  All computers behind the NAT server are hidden from the outside world (unless you map specific ports to the specific IP address of a computer)... they are so NOT to pings from the outside.

  • Simple Question - How to move virtual machines from 1 box to another?

    Hello

    I'm new to VMware products so please bare my stupidity.

    I have 2 servers I received vSphere on. They have all two internal storage (SAN No. still ) which means I can't take advantage of vMotion. So that leaves me to figure out how would one move a Virtual Machine from one box to the other? I currently have two boxes configured with a vCenter Server under 1 datacenter server.

    The simplest solution (considering vCenter) is cold using migrate operation.

  • How to access virtual machines after installing fresh windows?

    Hello

    I use windows xp & installed the virtual machines in the D drive to a folder. My windows crashed and I reinstalled windows fresh. Now please guide me how can I access my virtual machines? Already I again install vmware workstation 5. is it necessary to build my virtual machines again or there is another way if the already insatalled VM will connect?

    As long as you still have the files of virtual disk (hard) of the guest, you'll be fine.

    Open VMware Workstation and select to open an existing computer. Browser to the folder where the guest is stored. Select the .vmx file and guest must be back again.

    If you have only the left hard, create a new virtual machine (using the same type of SCSI adapter) when you are prompted to add a drive choose to add an existing one. Navigate to the hard and add it. Fact.

  • iSCSI SAN, two hosts - how to move virtual machines?

    It is a new implementation.  I have ESX 3.5 standard and both hosts access the storage shared across the San.  Somehow, I need to delete the VM inventory of a host, and add it to the other.  But I don't see the option anywhere.  I don't have the inventory button.

    Where I was before we vCenter but not here.  What is the reason?  I can't do vmotion, all cold migration.

    You must turn off the Virtual Machine, if you right click on the virtual machine, that you should see the option at the bottom near remove disk.   On the host that you want to move, if you look at the host summary screen (click on the host) and then double click on the logic of shared storage unit number.  This should bring up a list of all folders in this unit number logic, including the NameOfVM that you can open the folder of this virtual machine to the top and click on the. SELECT and VMX file added to the inventory.
