How to re-enable the Vista key after upgrade to Windows 7

original title: Activattion

I bought a legal copy of Vista 64 bit and I installed on a computer. I then used Windows 7 64 bit upgrade for upgrading Vista to 7. So now, Vista is not installed on this computer. Since this copy is not installed on any computer that I then installed Vist 32 bits with the same product key, as both versions came in a single package. This computer is dead and no longer in use. So now, either 32-bit or 64-bit version is installed on any computer. So I decided to install the 64-bit version on a virtual machine that is the only thing that it is installed on and I can't seem to activate. I know the State of the installation on a single computer, but I thougth that if uninstall you you can reinstall on another computer. All of these computers are mine and only installed on a Vista machine. They have never been installed on two machines at a time. The installation of Vista, I have currently is in a virtual machine. Is there a way I can get this activated copy?

If you used to upgrade Vista Windows 7 is the upgrade version, rather than the Full Installer version, so your Vista license is no longer valid, as it is subsumed under the license of Win 7.

How you installed Vista as an upgrade on XP or to perform a new installation? Did you use the installation of a media installation upgrading or complete dvd or did you by TechNet or MSDN subscription paying there?

With or without a dvd, you must enter the product key that was included with the media or have bought and downloaded via the store Ms. The product key is usually on the plastic case, the dvd of Vista arrives or accompanies electronic download and is that you enter during the installation/update level or when you use the control panel > system > change the product key to see active Windows.

You'll need a product key valid for the edition in question that you are now going to run.

Windows Update has nothing to do with the upgrade of Windows. That being said...

Your Windows Mail data will be preserved when you switch to Win7.

Unlike Vista and Windows XP, Win7 does NOT have any default mail client. However, you can install Windows Live Mail (free) or another e-mail Client (e.g. MS Outlook, which is not free) and then import data from Windows Mail stored in your new email Client.

    Hello

These features make accessible to the general public through the driver supplied with the HP full feature software, by your description I guess you have mistakenly added the In-OS driver included in Windows 8.

Follow the steps below, which should add a feature to the printer:

    1. download and run the latest version of the full software features below:

6 open the Advanced tab, click new driver.

  • Cannot access the CDrive folder after upgrade to Windows 8

    * Original title: that I can not access the CDrive on my desk

My PC has recently been upgraded to windows 8. We use dropbox to store our files and of course to have a copy of these files on the CDrive. When I send an email (using gmail) I can't find the files copied on CDrive and Dropbox when I try to join from there, the message is "this file is 0bytes and must not be attached.

    Hello Rea,

    1. did you reformat your hard drive during installation?
    (2) you are able to locate the file directly from the c: drive and check the size of the file?

    (3) when did save the file to the c: drive, it was post upgrade of Windows 8 or before upgrade (was it already existing in the previous operating system)?

If you do not format the hard drive and put in your Windows 8 operating system level, then the Windows.old folder would be created where all the old operating system files would be stored. I suggest you try the procedure described in the article and see if it helps.

  • How can I enable the Task Manager after recovering from an attack of Win32.GEMA

    Hello

I am running Windows XP SP3.

I have recently had an attack of the Win32.GEMA Trojan horse. Details of it are here: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Trojan%3AWin32%2FRansirac.G

    I recovered my system using:

    AVG Rescue Disk

    Kaspersky Rescue Disk

    BitDefender Rescue Disk

    Scan of MalwareBytes

    McAffee analysis

    Hitman Pro Scan

    Spybot scan

    Eusing Registry Cleaner

    CCleaner

Overkill maybe? But it worked... Up to now

Apparently, the Trojan horse disables the Task Manager and that is I'm having bad to restore.

I followed the advice in this article from Microsoft - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913623/ - but when I followed this part

To set the DisableTaskMgr registry entry to 0 for a specific user, follow these steps:

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Log the computer by using a user account with administrator permissions.
    3. Click Start, click run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    4. In the left pane, click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
    5. In the right pane, double-click DisableTaskMgr.
    6. In the value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
    7. On the file menu, click exit.
    8. Restart the computer.

N ° 5 says that disable TaskMgr should appear in the right pane, but there is no entry to disable TaskMgr. All it is an icon of the small 'ab' (the default) beside it, then, REG_SZ.

Then I tried to follow this part of the article from Microsoft

To set the DisableTaskMgr registry entry to 0 for all users, follow these steps:

    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Log the computer by using a user account with administrator permissions.
    3. Click Start, click run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    4. In the left pane, click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem\\\
    5. In the right pane, double-click DisableTaskMgr.
    6. In the value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
    7. On the file menu, click exit.
    8. Restart the computer.

This time off TaskMgr was in the right pane - this time with a little "ohho? icon followed REG_DWORD

I tried to create a new entry for the current user by copying one for all users, but not joy.

    Any suggestions?

CTRL + Alt + Del does not receive any reaction whatsoever, no Ctrl + Shift + Esc or click with the right button on the barv task and selecting the Task Manager

    Thank you in anticipation

These KB articles are for a different problem when you receive these messages when you run the Task Manager...

Some malicious software is aware of the methods you're most likely to use to find and remove it (Task Manager, System Restore, command prompt, Internet, Google, etc.)

The malware does not allows you to use things like the Task Manager to find and remove, so it prevents them from becoming a process running on the system and the process will not start or the process will be completed as soon as it is launched.

The malware is happier when he let you think you need to use system restore, a repair install or reinstall your XP from scratch to fix your system when none of this is necessary.

You can fool the malware (and then fix it).

Assuming that your Windows is installed on your drive C, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder c:\windows\system32 and locate taskmgr.exe.

Copy the taskmgr.exe file and rename the copy something malicious software will not recognize.  I like to call the copy:

    c:\windows\system32\jose.exe

Double-click on jose.exe and see if the Windows Task Manager window opens now.

The problem is the malware won't let the taskmgr.exe a running process, but he does not know jose.exe as a running process in order to thwart you all (I have a feeling that he will well a day on jose.exe).

Will not 'fix' your task manager, but at least you will know whether or not the Task Manager mechanism works (taskmgr.exe still not start properly).  If you try to remove some malware and the need to use the Task Manager, you can simply launch jose.exe (double-click) instead, but will be still infected your system.

    Hello

Since I have updated my OS to Windows 7, I have a few problems. In general, I noticed my laptop would ' t work as well as it was running Vista 32 bit. Especially with games online (souch as counter strike 1.6).

The problem is that I have for my backup DVD because my DVD burner work not at all :/ Now I just wonder how could I return for win Vista without the DVD. Is it still possible? I also do not have small jets CD I bought my laptop. So, what should I do?

    Hi stab them.

I think that I n the new good t for you: restore factory settings without Toshiba recovery disc isn t possible in your case! :(

First of all I think it's normal to s no recovery disk is delivered with the laptop as you will need to create them yourself using the Toshiba recovery disc creator. That is why it s recommended using high quality as Verbatim DVD-R media.

I think that the only option to recover to factory settings is to order a new Toshiba recovery disc.
    https://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspx

I put t understand why you didn't create this disk, because after the first boot, if you shut down the computer area, you get the following message:
    + Important INFORMATION +.

+ your system is equipped with a hard drive recovery system. If you need repair.
+ your computer in the restaurant to original factory State, you can do it directly.
+ HDD (press F8 when you start your computer, choose "Repair your computer" +)
+ and follow the instructions in the menu) or create a media drive bootable recovery to that end. +.

+ Toshiba recommends you create recovery disk medium uses the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator' to ensure the +.
+ Hat you are able to restore your computer to the State of origin, installed at the factory, even if your computer +.
