  • How to recover files from a missing disk

Sometimes, my DVD player disappears from Windows Explorer and Device Manager.  I tried all the normal steps to stop the problem (remove UpperFilters and so forth), but it still happens from time to time.  When the disk is visible, it works fine.  The problem is that when I tried to move some images there in Windows Explorer to burn them on a CD, the drive has disappeared in the middle of the movement.  Now, the folders appear in the window of the E: drive (I have not closed the window or turned off power the computer since this happened), but I can't undo the move or copy them.

I get the error "E:\ refers to a location that is unavailable.  It can be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. etc... »

I can do to get the files back, or that I lose the files forever?

Work with your system and not the CD to do so.

If you have Vista Business, Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise, you can be lucky.  They have so-called saves shadow copies, which are deleted or modified files that can be recovered in case changes/deletions made by mistake.  http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-Vista/features/shadow-copy.aspx more information about how to use this feature to: http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/howdoi/?p=145.

If you have Vista Basic or Premium of Vista, shadow copies is not available; However, there is an alternative that is free and the shadow copies feature called Shadow Explorer. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/recover-files-with-shadow-copies-on-any-version-of-windows-vista/.  Although it will not help you this time, it could very well save you in case this happens again.

In case this does not work (not all files are available through shadow - it occurs periodically), here are some additional free recovery programs that might help:

    http://www.SnapFiles.com/freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html (first try Recuva)

http://www.SnapFiles.com/get/DiskDigger.html (try this second - if this does not work then the chances of recovery are very slim but you can try the other options if you want to).

The files are not really deleted until they are crushed (although they are no longer available through conventional methods).  If you decide to try these recovery programs, you should stop using your drive hard immediately in order not to replace the data that you are trying to recover.  He slave on another PC and launch the recovery of this PC.  Even now you have definitely lost some of them if you use the same PC.  If you can not do this (slave on another PC), you run the risk of overwriting the data with every action you do on the PC (but you may still be able to recover some or most or even all files - it's a matter of luck).

Only you can decide if the data is important enough to take the PC to an expert data recovery to recover files (they will have better programs and hardware to do that none of us do, and I've provided above).  Do NOT go to the Geek Squad or one of these centers of store-, they generally don't know what they are doing - it take for expert data recovery.  It will cost you a little and they generally offer no guarantees.  The decision is yours.

With regard to your CD player is going, you need to update the device drivers for it. Go to the Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get the drivers (and do it for your CD-ROM drive), to leave the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the following device manager: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html

If new drivers do not help, try swapping try it with one you know works and see if the problem moves.  The road from the other work of the computer is on your computer?  Drive your conputer there problems on the other computer?  If so, you have a hardware problem with the CD player and need to replace.

You have computer anotherr to test the CD that you tried to do to see if it contains any files or data that are accessible?  Try some of the above recovery tools on the CD to see if you are able to recover files that have been moved (it might work).

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • How to recover files from my hard drive?

I tried to upgrade windows 8.1 to 10, but something was wrong and I can't boot my laptop more. I have Samsung i5. Samsung has it s own recovery program, but impossible to locate all personal files from my hard drive (C:\user) s.

The problem is - my accont is protected by word (with the microsoft account) how can I recover my files? They are also protected by Word? Can I access simply by making the copy of disc or I´ll to decrypt?

It depends on if you have encryption enabled or not.  If you have the encryption on, then you will need a copy of your encryption key or the files will be locked forever.

If you encrypt your files, you can recover the files simply by putting the hard drive on another computer and navigate on it as if it were a USB key (it's just a reader), you can even appropriating and re - set the permissions on the folder.

Another option is to start by using any Windows install CD or USB.  At the prompt to install, skip it and press SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt.  So to reach this player (the letter can be no C: in this mode) and use the command copy to copy the file to another disk or USB stick.

  • ESXi flash drive failed, how to recover files from her previous settings?

I was running ESXi 5.0 off a Sandisk Cruzer 1 GB USB flash drive but the system started acting weird (slow), so I rebooted it, when he came to the server could not boot from it so, it seems, some of the files that it contains has been corrupted? Before the reboot, I was able to use the virtual machines on the server for file corruption must not have been that bad. I'll reinstall ESXi on an another USB.

To save me the pain of the reconfiguration of the network hardware and virtual in ESXi (do not save these settings), what directory and the files would I need to copy on to get these previous settings applied to the reinstall ESXi?

To access these files, I have to do something special to get this old USB under Windows or Linux? These operating systems will recognize the file system on it? If not, how can I get access to what is on it? Thanks for any help!

Data on the USB ESXi drive partitions are partitions FAT, so you are able to access it from Windows or Linux. In Windows you must assign the drive letters for the partitions by using the disk management tool.

Look for the two partitions of 250MB in size and a file named state.tgz on them. Choose the most recent two copies and copy it to the newly installed USB drive. After the initial installation, one of the two 250 MB on that drive partitions should contain files - replace the file state.tgz with the copy of your old installation.

  • How to recover files from a server without displaying the path of the user

    Hi all

A business unit asked me if it is possible to use OBIEE as a distribution tool for one of their pdf monthly reports they generate for our company.

There are about 500 reports per month and each report will be visible by the business as it relates to.

Given, there is no real "bulk upload" solution for OBIEE (yet?), I thought that it would be possible to set up a batch to load the files on the server in a folder that is visible for weblogic.

From there on, I created an analysis that generates dynamically a html link that uses the date value out of a prompt of date and the unit value of the user's session variables.

Once they have clicked on the link, it opens their report date... HOWEVER, the information in the URL are very clear and for everything, even half of the tech users, a simple change of business unit in the URL, will provide another report (big no no).

    Any suggestions on this one?

I am happy to re look at my entire solution, but I thought maybe an action link or GO the URL could be used?

    Thanks in advance,

    Adam

Last spring could do you something like...

Instead of naming your files/folders as the business unit, could scramble the unit name or number based on some number of seeds or the formula? I assumed it would be easier if he were a unit number cases that has been used in the name of the file. If your batch file downloads and makes a formula on the unit number business to make the somewhat random file name.

OBIEE then uses the same formula, when generating the link

They will have to understand the formula to find code from another unit. Looks like that would be enough for what you're trying to reach.

How to recover files deleted from a removable storage device (memory stick)? the only folder to recycle bin is on my network drive, there is none on my memory stick.

"Deleting" a file does not actually delete it marks just the space
also available to be used. There are third-party programs that can
sometimes recover deleted files. The problem is that the space used by
the file is likely to be replaced very quickly, and it makes
    the unrecoverable file.

So your chances of successfully recover this file are decent if you
Try it again immediately after the deletion of it and go quickly
downhill from there if you write other files on the device.

But if the file is large enough, it's still worth a try. Stop
written on the memory stick immediately, if you did not
already. Download an undelete program (and here's one:)

How to recover files deleted from permanentaly in win XP?

In addition to monocrisis, you will want to take note of the date to which it has been deleted from the Recycle Bin.

This will be useful when you are looking for the deleted file, as any recovery software will show you all that can be recovered. You will probably have a long list of files returned and knowing that date will help search what is returned by the software you choose.

    Good luck!
