How to reinstall the Windows 7 upgrade on vista for new installation or in the event of system failure?

I love periodically re - install a new operating system after reformatting hadr drive. In the past it was the of syetem of full operation and not just an upgrade. I have to be sure that it is not complicated, as I want to install the upgrade to Windows 7 (family pack) on 3 PC/laptops running Vista. I would upgrade as detailed instructions on how I would do a new installation using the Windows 7. This is important because I don't want to create a nightmarish experience of backup, install the original operating system, install the upgrade, etc. etc. etc.

If you upgrade a computer Vista Win7 and need or want to do a clean install (or repair install) of Windows, you will need to reinstall Vista and then switch to Win7 again.

Your question has nothing to do with Windows Update. Ask questions about the upgrade instead: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/threads ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

My girlfriend has a HP dv4-1465dx experiencing hardware problems, the laptop will be blue screen randomly and then restart 1-3 seconds later. When you restart the laptop reads, "No boot device - insert boot disk and press any key." If the laptop is turned off and turn it on again, it works fine, until the next BSoD. The first time that this error the hard drive was seized up, unable to enter a bank hard disk enclosure repair attempts that forced me to buy a new one.

I tried the bios of an option to disable the restart in the event of system failure so I could read the error message, but it only gave me discover that HP has less useful bios in the world and that no such possibility existed; Yes I have updated the bios. Start/hardware error logs contained no data also, what so ever.

The hard drive is fine, I ran it in my office for several days. a BSoD happens within his laptop several times a day.

I don't know what to do at this point is that I have nothing to work outside of, I hope someone has a useful idea. The laptop is no longer under warranty, but this is ridiculous, how fast this thing is falling apart (literally... screws are only randomly drop the case).

Yes I really don't think that this is the case. As mentioned above is not my laptop so I'll probably wait until he decides to restart not at all before eventually taking an iron to be welded to it. Thanks for all the information, assume that nothing can be done at this stage.

  • HP DV7T-2000: Windows 7 Upgrade from Vista for an HP laptop

The installation will not proceed because the software and the computer "reads" the computer is running the battery power and it is not connected to a power source. My computer is "connected" and the battery remains entirely motorized. Indicator power where the power source is connected to the computer is not "informed", but the battery remains @ 100% charge while the computer was turned on for seven hours. Is there a way to get around this? I use Windows 7 and not Vista?

IF that's true then remove the battery and just run with the AC adapter and see if this is the case?

  • After disk hard crash, loaded Windows 7 and get "Software Licensing Service determined that specified only usable product key for the upgrade, not for new installations.

I bought the upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows Vista CD, then had a hard drive crash, then installed a new hard drive. Load the purchased Windows 7 on new hard drive, now I get the message '... Software Licensing Service determined that specified only usable product key for the upgrade, not for new installations. That means that I have to load Vista on the new hard drive, and then update? Both for the end user (paying customer) hostile.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

Also run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/Upgrade-Advisor.aspx

If the upgrade continues to fail, you might want to consider doing a custom installation:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
    Click Install now
    Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

  • How to reinstall the operating system on a Curve 8310 blackBerry smartphones?

There seems to be missing elements of my OS (vs 4.5.0.182).  How can I reinstall the original operating system to get everything working again?

Hello and welcome to the community!

From a PC, you can install any compatible OS package (for example, for your exact model of BB number) to a BB via this procedure:

Note Although written to "recharge" and the storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade or recharge any BB device model - depends on the operating system package you download and install on your PC. You can even use a different OS package carriers simply insert, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, a file named PROVIDER. XML. remember that you remove from your PC, no matter what other packages devices OS BB as having more than one installed on the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.

If you are on a MAC, you are limited to only your sanctioned carriers OS packages... but can still use any level they currently have to sanction. See this procedure:

    Hello cdrudd, welcome.

We start back up your data first, if you have a Windows Vista recovery or install CD/DVD, try this:

    1. connect an external drive or flash drive
    2. place the CD of Windows Vista in the status bar, and close
3 boot the disk and choose "repair my computer".
    4 choose "Command Prompt"
    5. type the following command:

    CD c:

    | Come in

    users of CD

    | Come in

    dir

    | Come in

From here, take note of what your user name folder name. Then type...

    copy c:\users\yourusername e:\users

    | Come in

    * ' e' will be the letter of your external device. It could be F, G, H or so now (according to which drive letter was already used)

Once the copy is complete, you can pretty much use the following commands to keep the rest of the data:

copy c:\program files e:\program files -copy everything in the folder program files

You can use the dir command to view the contents of a directory. Then, you can use the cd command to navigate to a directory.

Let us know if you have a copy of your user data backup job. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Thank you!
