  Welcome to the community,

  the wording is the kind of confusion. If you "delete" a snapshot, its content is merged into its direct parent. If you go back to a snapshot, all changes will be discarded but the snapshot will still be visible but the snapshot file is essentially empty, when you delete this snapshot after returning to it, so there's nothing that can / will be merged with its parent company.
