How to restore Windows Updates?
RE this post, automatic updates of Windows 7 have broken my development environment and cost me some valuable development time!
Friday afternoon, windows update did some updates during my lunch break, after which I was unable to debug applications at all. This seems to be a known issue.
Is it possible to make back, or do I have to re - install the OS/IDE from scratch and turn off the automatic updates permanently?

I don't want to not updated windows, they are not compatible with the freezer. My computer is cutting every 14 minutes to update, then the updates are erased by deepfreeze. Windows updates won't be compatible with how I customized my computer.
Windows updates are an essential part of the maintenance of your personal computer. They ensure you have the latest, most updated version of Windows. Updates Windows also provides protection, improvements and updates to applications such as Microsoft Office and Windows Live services. Any program that prevents you from using Windows Update at all isn't worth and the developer should be reprimanded. If you think that it should always be disabled, you must understand the consequences.

How to stop Windows Update by creating temporary files on my external drives?
Any ideas on how to tell Windows Update to stay away from my external drives?
I have several external drives I use for backup projects, archives and collections of major media. They are connected to my laptop very irregularly and rarely more than a few hours. In recent years they have been inundated with folders with long as names d84fa74b9585277339 as the seams related to Windows Update. I think it has already started on the laptop with XP I had before this one. Sometimes I see these files on the internal hard disk, but there are theyalways disappear after some time. On external drives, I have to delete manually. On an NTFS disk partition I use for backup, it's not easy, sometimes I have to take ownership of the folder. Drives FAT32 / exFAT is easy.
I guess people who have developed Windows Update realized that you can not trust USB or eSATA connected drives to be there when the cleaning is executed (BTW when cleanup runs it?). So I must have screwed up a setting somewhere. And I have to be very consistent in this because the same thing happens with friends and relatives, I contributed to the installation of Windows 7...
Cheers, Willem
WYSIWYG. Windows Update download installers for updates on the drive with the most free space.
Tips:
1 see http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Strategies-for-freeing-disk-space
.. .and maybe http://blogs.technet.com/b/joscon/archive/2011/02/15/how-to-reclaim-space-after-applying-service-pack-1.aspx
2 make it a habit to unplug all external drives are not currently used.
3. disconnect all external disks before you run a manual check of Windows updates.
4. run Disk Cleanup every 2-3 months or more.

How to restore Windows XP?
I have lost my Windows XP Home Edition operating system, my Compaq computer came with it, without an installed drive. I contacted Best Buy, they referred me to the HP. HP told me that they didn't have a backup, and told me to contact Microsoft. I have a sticker with the product key on the computer. How to restore Windows XP?
Hello
Your product key is still valid, but Windows XP is no longer supported. Once more, you can check with HP and see if they can provide you with the CD. Microsoft is not more sales of Windows XP operating system.

How to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted win7 upgrade to win 10
Can someone tell me how to stop Windows Update to force an unwanted Win 7 upgrade to win 10.
Currently, I have 50 + 'important' updates pending and 3 updates "optional" (which one is ranked 10 Windows), but even with 10 Windows Update is not selected and the value "hide this update" the only option shown in Windows Update is upgrading to Windows 10.
Any attempt to install ONE of the other Win 7 or MS Office updates translates into Windows Update, saying that it is downloading Windows 10.
I would like to install updates Windows 7 (and MS Office), but given the way that Microsoft has put on several occasions customers for a forced update to win 10, I'd really rather not count on leave install Win 10 and just hope that the 'Roll Back' option really works without leaving me right where I am now.
