How to: Retrieve data on a hard disk of laptop after screen went kaput

Original title: my computer screen dell laptop went kaput can I connect my laptop it to my office to recover files etc my computer laptop OS is vista and my office windows 7?

I have a dell laptop where the screen is dead? I connected to an external display of phillips, who worked for awhile, but which has now gone empty as well.

How can I transfer files etc. to my desktop from the laptop? the operating system vista laptop and the pc is windows 7.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello frechjohn,

Your best bet to solve this will probably be in getting a USB drive cage to put laptop hard drive.  Once this is done, you can plug the USB cable into your desktop computer and browse the structure of folders and files on the drive of the laptop.

You can find these stores to the hardware of the computer.

Best regards

  • How to copy data from one hard drive to another after the upgrade?

I have a HP e9220y, and I recently bought a new hard drive for it. There is nothing wrong with the former, but this one has a 64 MB cache and 7200 RPM so I hope it will be a little faster. I installed it and it works fine, but I want to copy all data from the old disk to the new so I can start everything off the faster hard drive and I seem to have a bit of doing wrong. I can't just copy and paste because of the Windows system files that are used. And last night when I set up Windows backup, and went to bed, when I thought it that Windows has recovered from a stop unexpected, rebooted, and only 2 GB of data saved obtained.

What is the best way to move all the data from the old drive to the new drive, make it the default C: drive and move partitions system and factory_image as well? Thank you!

    (1) If your old drive and the new drive is Seagate or Western Digital, then free House with their cloning software.

    (2) before starting the clone process, I found best to perform a disk cleanup and defragmentation.

Cloning software to copy the two partitions. Example:

    Old drive 250 GB formatted to 232 C: created 220 and 12 GB D:

New 1000GO drive formatted to 931 GB created 919 GB C: and D: to 12 GB

The "Seagate disc Wizard" cloning software will let create you a clone automatic or manual partition resizing.

The two modes to offer an overview of the actions before commit you. The manual on this page of Seagate (PDF) is 68 pages.

After the cloning process he complete, all you have to do is swap on the disks. Besure to connect your new disc on the original motherboard SATA port.

  • How do you know if the hard disk controller is damaged or it does not work?

    Hello

I would like to know how you can know if the hard disk controller is defect.  is there some tools for it or a way to test it.

    I have thouthg my self for a solution like this;

-If I take the hard drive that is not working out pc and attach it to the speaker and the speaker set on a PC then I wil first hear the rotation of your drive hard so that when the PC wil recognizes the external hard drive as a hard disk and then the controller is OK, otherwise it means that the controller is damaged.

. I know mechanical problems with a hard disk, they do some sounds when they turn.

is the way I think it is the right way to know or there is much better way to find out if there is a problem with the hard disk controller.

    Thank you

    Johan

Small circuit board is an interface for cables that sorts what is happening in the place where. It holds the drive buffer and it tells the computer what it is, i.e. drive, speed, brand, model, size etc.

If you get an error of hard disk controller, it's a motherboard problem and there is no way to fix it.

Hard drives fail for two reasons...

    1. The platters inside are deteriorating to the point where they are no more able to maintain the structure of the sector/cluster.
    2. The spindle motor breaks down.

The part of a disk hard less likely to fail is the interface card, unless he is accidentally cut on the computer case or other metallic surface. If this short, you will know that the smoke resulting hard disk is acrid beggars belief. It is almost the only case where the interface will fail.

Even when a hard drive is subjected to temperatures beyond its limits, the spindle motor bearings will fail way before anything else, that's why the vast majority of the disk hard total fails is obvious because there is no vibration of the engine.

If a hard drive starts to cause problems, it is best to replace it because it will always get worse over time...

I tried the clean boot and now the hard drive works simply and screen went black. The mouse still moves around the screen without any outher work keys? That is what it is?

    Hello

You will need to reverse the clean boot, as it is either incidental compared to
the real cause of the problem. What, where you try to fix initially using the cleanboot?

You can access Mode safe? Repeatedly press F8 as you start? If so you can try the configuration - control panel
The Device Manager - graphics card - Double click on - driver tab - click the driver UPDATE - then
Right click on the device and UNINSTALL - REBOOT.

Another method to try to get to the desktop (try in normal Windows Mode without failure) is
CTRL + ALT + DEL and the processes tab find EXPLORER.exe and COMPLETE the PROCESS on this subject - and then
on the Applications tab - lower right - new task - type in EXPLORER.exe. Safe mode is reached
by tapping F8 as you start several times.

Black screen problems are extremely difficult to repair and all patch is usually on a base hit or miss.

If necessary and you can access all ordinary Windows.

You can try an In-Place Upgrade (hopefully save programs and data) or a repair installation

    Hello sdf361,

The recovery partition, that is what you would use to restore your computer when you bought it with the OS on it
that was pre-installed. It is not your old programs and data on it. You will need to backup your data to restore and install
your programs since the original installation discs.

If you do not have the program disk, I suggest that the manufacturer of the computer.

  • How to transfer data from one hard drive to another?

I don't know how and has been upgraded to a new hard drive...

    Hello

Well, it may be quite simple, if you install the new OS in the new drive.

Then you connect the older HARD drive, and you should be able to explore the contents of the HARD drive in windows and copy the data from the old disk to the new. Be careful with what is selected in the BIOS startup disk.

But depends on the unit you have, because you might end up having several types of questions.

You can also use any kind of external card, depends on the type of connection of HARD drive you have and for example, if its SATA, you can simply use a SATA to USB adapter.

Let me know if this helped.

    Thank you

  • How to copy data to another hard drive

In the last month, I realized that my hard drive happens to little for the rest of the year.

So I bought two new big hard disks (for backup and work) and copied all the pictures for new readers.

I started a new catalog and imported all the images in 2015.

(For me, a catalogue is a year.)

Now I have the old catalogue with all the information processing until September connected with your old hard drive.

And I have a catalog with no information until September - but of Oktober-connected to your new hard drive.

What I like to do is all the information in a catalog.

    Now the question:

How can I connect all the Organization and data processing to a new catalog and photos?

I think there must be a way to do it, but I don't know.

The names of the images remained the same, that the path has changed.

    Thank you for helping.

If there are errors, I apologize, I'm German.

    Hi all

As I am new to the world of vmware ESXI, I always make mistakes or I don't undertand all therefore be complete :-).

So I have a HP Proliant ML 350 G6 Server installed with ESXI 4.1 and I want to connect a USB hard disk to a virtual machine (SBS 2K 8). Currently, the virtual machine is not able to see the hard drive.

I already add a USB controller to the virtual machine, but my USB HARD drive is still not visible to my virtual machine.

    Can you help on that?

    Thank you

Next, add a USB device to the virtual computer (in the change settings tab), there are different things, USB controller and USB devices. Sometimes, you may have to restart the virtual machine.

  • Hard disk of laptop HP G7 gone bad, how to install Windows 8?

    HP Pavilion G7-2269wm

Recovery disks were lost, not sure if it works even without the original hard drive.

I heard that the product key is embedded in the BIOS.

How can I go about installing of Windows 8 in a new hard drive?

I've seen 8 posted here for download Windows OEM versions, is there any where I can get an OEM version for this particular model?

UPDATE: OK, I ran a bad sector repair tool, I can now access the desktop if it's very slow and it seems that I can't do much, he won't let me do a search, I can't go to the recovery of the system to create recovery discs.  CAN I put the hard drive in an external enclosure, and I can access the drive from there.  I can also start up to advanced startup options.

Is there anyway to create discs of recovery by the HD being mounted in an external enclosure, either the advanced boot menu?

Your key works with this ISO standard. Google limits the number of times where it can be downloaded every day then you may need to make several attempts.
