  Try going into settings > general > reset > reset home screen presentation.

  You can't look "inside" a backup. Just use iTunes to sync with your iPhone, then you'll see a separate category for voice memos in the sidebar.

  What I can't get is voice memos on March 22. I did several others March 23 and they fine synchronization.

  Voice memos are automatically saved as part of a backup, however...

  1. You can only find them by restoring your back up to a new phone.
  2. Notes recent (those taken since your last backup) will be unavailable.

  Here's how I did it.

  Menu/Media Center/music & tones / my sound / my sound/Record. After recording, one of the options is sent. Send it to yourself. When you receive the message, one of the options is to save as ringtone. I think that there are other ways, but all take several measures.
