How to set up a default mail client in Win7
I just installed Win7 for my laptop and also installed computer Claws Mail.
I wish that Windows uses claws as default e-mail client. (for example, in Internet Explorer, click on file/send to delivers an error > no default e-mail client)
Claws does NOT appear on the list of programs in the list of default programs.
Claws appears in the list of Protocol as an application MAILTO.
This should be a really basic question. I'm still at it for hours.

Hi Tom,

As you said, you cannot set a default email client.
I suggest you to check if the clutches of program is available in programs and features. Follow the steps below.
- Click the Start button.
- Click programs and features.

If the program is not available in programs and features, then I suggest you to reinstall the program and check if that helps.

How can I install correctly "Default Mail Client"
Whenever I want to send an email to someone and click on the word "e-mail" to get the address of e-mail, I get the message on the screen informing me that the operation cannot be performed because the "default mail client' is not properly installed.
In the simplest and most straight forward instructions how to properly install the "default e-mail client"?
I use IE10 and windows 8 and I have an outlook (email) account...
Thank you.
If you use the Internet browser to access your email (whether to outlook.com, yahoo, or gmail, or other), there is probably no client messaging on your computer. A client of garlic is a program, not a website. So to have an e-mail client, you need a program such as Microsoft Office Outlook ($), Mozilla Thunderbird (free) or Windows Live Mail (free).
You can install client software for messaging and then these types of e-mail links will work.

Default mail client configuration blackBerry smartphones?
Since my desktop software has been updated, every time I open it... I get the message "there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot meet the demand for e-mail. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as default mail client. »
Problem is... I opened MS Outlook and it * is * defined as e-mail client by default... so what gives?
Figured this out today... He was looking for "MS Outlook" be defined as the default e-mail client... * not * "MS Outlook Express" I used...
I have set up Outlook program and it seems to work fine now.

How to install the default mail client?
Today, I came across the same problem that happened recently, about my inability to send an email. I sign up for a club and at the end of the record, I was NOT able to send the necessary information to join. I got a pop up message that read - cannot perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed. Anyone know how I can fix this problem? Thank you, Charlie
Click on the Start button and then default programs, and then click on associate a program with a file type and Protocol.
Everything at the bottom of this page is (mailto) in the list, click it, and then on change, a list of the installed mail programs appears, click the one you want to use and close now listed at the bottom of the page.

Unlike Windows XP & Vista, Windows 7 does not include a default email Client. [What were thinking?]
You will need to install a (e.g. MS Outlook;) Windows Live Mail; Thunderbird) , and then set it as a default for mail in CUSTOM (<>) article in Set Program Access and defaults of the computer , then restart your computer before any function send to or MailTo will become available.

Default mail client is not properly installed
I get this message when I click on an e-mail link. Default mail client is not properly installed. How can I fix it
Happends error because you have installed/used a different browser, then Internet Explorer, then during the uninstallation of the browser, you have broken the link between your default browser.
The e-mail client has no path. To fix it, try to open your current browser, go to tools > Options, and then set the default browser. Close and your e-mail program. Re-open your email and try to open a hyperlink again, see if that fixes. If not, go into Internet Explorer (if you are not already) and go to tools > options > advanced down, press reset, do not forget to reset personal settings, and then make sure the "default" browser is selected, and close. This fixed my problem and is recommended for a few other places, give it a try.
Edit: If it does not, what email program are you using? Set it as default value (via the options of the program) also do so via the browser, Internet Explorer you go tools > Options > and set your e-mail by default also program...

I want that thunderbird to run in the background when I call the default mail client
I have a software which sends emails for reports. The software calls the default mail client (Thunderbird) and sends the e-mail. However, this open Thunderbird and gets in the way. Is there anyway this could send the email without opening Thunderbird? Can it run in the background like outlook express? It should be closed after the e-mail was sent.
http://KB.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_3.0_-_New_Features_and_Changes#Send_in_Background
Open Tools(or AppMenu/Options)/Options/Advanced/general/Config. Editor, paste mailnews.sendInBackground into the search box, and then double-click the preference to set it to true.

You have a common problem of Windows 7. You must set a default e-mail program and Windows 7 did not come with a pre-installed email program.
The default e-mail program must be installed on the computer - for example Windows Mail (Vista), Windows Live Mail, Thunderbird, etc.

How can I make yahoo.com my default mail client... If I may respond to craigslist
So that the MailTo URL work, you should have a real email client installed, not only to access messages using your web browser.
If you download and install Yahoo Messenger, you should be able to make Yahoo webmail your default e-mail client. To know with certainly, however, please come back to this thread, click on modify just below your post, change the Version of Windows, menu dropdown to indicate your version of WIndows, then click on submit. Without knowing your version of Windows, it is difficult to formulate definitive proposals.
