How to stop the last file opened at startup?

InDesign CS5 insists on reopening of the last file opened whenever I run the app, I had. I tried making sure that all documents are closed before leaving ID without success. I have looked through preferences but can't seem to find anything that changes. I'm on a Mac under Lion (10.7.4) and sought a solution to operating system level but haven't found anything, and no other application behaves like that. I search these forums and have not found an answer.

Someone out there has an idea or is it an isolated case? Thank you.

Mike

  • How to stop the "Microsoft" folder opens at startup

Whenever I start my computer, "C:\Program Files\Microsoft" opens. I went through each item, start nothing leading to this path. (msconfig, registry, and "Startup" in "Programs" folder.) Anyone know how to stop the start to the top of the file?

You are really the way strong, but as long you are looking at the registry "Run" keys, make sure that the names of path for various startup items are surrounded by double quotes.

I can find no documentation final for this - and there is certainly some entries in my key Run that have spaces in them, but are not surrounded by double quotes - but in general, Windows behaves better if you either do not use characters such as spaces or surround the path with quotation marks name.

    For example:

    "C:\Program Files\Fichiers Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"

Because registry Analyzer seems to know the space in Program Files, and given your statement that the problem started when you installed Office, I suggest looking for an entry that starts C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\

If you find such an entry without quotes, modify to add and see if the problem goes away.

In the future, Autoruns is an easier way to find the startup entries... and it shows many places more than just two Run keys you watched.

  • How to stop the mapping files from database BDB?

We have a problem where physical memory on Windows (NT Kernel 6 and more, e.g., Windows 7, 2008R2, etc.) gets maxed out after a while when our application running.  On a 8 GB machine, if you look at our process of loading of BDB, is only about 1 GB. But when you look at using RAMMAP memory, you can see that the BDB database files (files not shared region) are mapped into memory, and it is the place most of the memory consumption.  I don't normally care like mapping memory can have performance benefits and ease of use. But the results are provided by the system to an abrupt stop.   This happens when we are inserting results in high order, e.g. 10s of millions of records in a short period of time.

I would attach a photo in this post, but for some reason the insert image is grayed out.

    Open environmental indicators: DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_THREAD | DB_LOCKDOWN | DB_RECOVER

    Flags the database open: DB_CREATE | DB_AUTO_COMMIT

    An update for the community

    Cause

We opened a request for assistance (SR) to work with Oracle on the matter. The conclusion that we arrived that was the main reason for the Windows System Cachememory consumption.  (For reference, see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976618) When opening files in buffer mode, the equivalent call CreateFile without specify FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING, all i/o to a file through the Windows System Cache.  More database file, more memory is used to support.  This is not the same as memory mapped files, which Berkeley will use for the files of the region (i.e. the environment.) Also use the memory, but because they are limited in size, will not cause a problem (for example need a larger environment, just add more memory).  The obvious reason to use the cache is significant workload for optimizations of performance, especially in reading.

The downside, however, is that when there is an significant amount of e/s in a short period of time, this cache can get really full and can translate into physical memory being close to 100% used.  This has a negative impact on the entire system.

Time is important because Windows needs time for active pages transition to pages pending that decreases the amount of physical memory.   What we have found, is that when our database has been installed on the FLASH drive, we could generate a lot more I/O and our tests might work in no time, but memory would get close to 100%. If we missed these same tests to drive slower, while the result was the same, i.e. inserted 10 million in data files, time takes a lot of time and memory usage does not approach even close to 100%. Note that we also see consumption memory occur when we use the hotbackup in the BDB library. The reason is obvious: in a short span of time, we read the entire file of BDB database that makes Windows use the system for her cache. Total amount of memory could be a factor as well. A system with 16 GB of memory, even with a FLASH drive, we had a hard time to reproduce the problem where climbs the memory.

There is no Windows API that allows an application to control how system cache is reserved or usable or maximum for an individual file.  As a result, BDB has very well control refined this behavior on a basis of individual files.  BDB can only enable or disable buffering in total for a given file.

    Workaround

At Berkeley, you can disable layouts buffer IO in Windows by specifying the DB_DIRECT_DB flag for the environment.  It is the equivalent of calling CreateFile with specifying FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING.  All I/O is going straight to the disk instead of memory and all the I/O must be aligned to a multiple of the sector size of the underlying disk. (NTFS sector size is usually 512 or 4096 bytes and BDB normal page sizes are usually multiples of that, so for most, this should not be a matter of concern, but know that Berkeley will test this page size to ensure that it is compatible and if not it will disable silently DB_DIRECT_DB.)  What we found in our tests is that using the flag DB_DIRECT_DB had too much negative impact on performance with something else to FLASH disk and therefore cannot use it. We consider acceptable for FLASH environments where we generate significant I/O in short time.   We could not reproduce the memory effect when the database is hosted on a drive of SAN running 15K SAS, which is more typical and so close the SR.

However, Windows has an API that control the amount large total system of the cache system to use space and we can experiment with this setting. Please see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976618 we will also experiment with the help of multiple database partitions so that Berkeley distributes the load to these other files possibly giving the delay of the system cache to move active pages in standby mode.

I have a laptop and my desktop, when I open my email on my lap top that the email still goes to my office as if it had never been opened.  I pay for this duplication and how to stop it I use x.p on my laptop and my office 2000

    1. You are not being charged to receive messages on both machines.
    2. You use XP and Win2K but arise in a forum of Vista.
    3. You didn't say what email program you use.

If you use Outlook Express, I'd say do it on both machines.

  • How to stop the Magnifier program activation at startup

original title: I want to delete a "program".

Forgive me for the use of terms laymans.

Today, I see that on a user account Magnifier is activated at startup (log - on). I don't know how to make this stop. I tried to do something and got a message saying "disable permissions that inherits. I have some research here and "done something" according to a help page for Windows XP. I probably did more harm than good.

I would like to delete the program, but it is not listed in Add/REMOVE programs (or is to REMOVE/CHANGE).

Should I just delete the user account and start over?

In addition, it is a fact that Vista does not automatically like XP restore points don't? Under Vista you must manually perform a restore point? In other words, on the XP computer I go to system restore and try to fix this mess. On Vista, I have found that "system restore." I have found where it is said today to a restore point, can not choose 3 days ago... because I have no previous restore points. I so widows updates

We just got this PC and I am trying to set up for the family.

    Thank you.

Go to start / Control Panel / ease of Access / facilitate the expect to see / and uncheck the box to turn on the Magnifier.  If this resolves the problem in this account, go to start / search box and type msconfig.exe and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Go to the starup tab and see if something related to ease of access or your magnifying glass is included - if so, uncheck the box to prevent it from running at startup and that should fix the problem.  If you can't find any such program, go to the services tab and look for the same thing.  If you uncheck the box, so it does not start at startup and that should fix the problem.  Here is an article on how to disable the Vista Magnifier that should work in the world and for all accounts: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/125037-magnifier-turn-off.html.  I suspect that this will do the trick.

If none of these options works, you can always consider the account as a corrupt user profile and fix it usinghttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Fix-a-corrupted-user-profile.

    =============================================================================================================================

Like XP, Vista DO restore points do auto - there just need to be told to do. http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/169523-system-restore-task-change-automatic-restore-point-schedule.html orhttp://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/change-how-often-system-restore-creates-restore-points-in-windows-vista/ (this second one is a little easier to follow).

To find the system restore, go to start / Control Panel / backup and Restore Center / and to the left are two options - one to do a system restore and the other to create a restore point or change the restore point settings.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

Hi, when I start my computer with the windows vista Setup program automatically starts and tries to start the blackberry desktop software, which was on this model but I got rid of him. It's annoying that it stops at the comp to load the rest of the startup programs. Anyone know what I can do to get rid of this nuisance?

    Very appreciated

    QF

Do not know if this the the right answer for you.
The next method is to set Windows Installer to MANUAL application Services program so that it does not start automatically when you turn on the computer.

Windows Installer is supposed to be set to manual.

Start button > in the search box, type services > press the Enter key > uac prompt > scroll to find Windows Installer > click...
status section, there should be nothing (empty)
Unser Startup Type, it is and must be manual

If this isn't what you see, right click on Windows Installer > properties > change it. See screenshot.

A search on the Internet is a great way to find answers quickly.  For example, using your question I searched:
How to enable or disable the Narrator at the start in "Windows 7".

    Essentially...

Control Panel--> Accessibility--> Ease of Access Center--> Explore all settings-> use the computer without a display. Uncheck "Turn the Narrator" and click Save.

How to stop a downloaded file open automatically, because it is really frustrating when I download music and videos as well as the files play automatically.

It is a question, I intend to answer that I discovered the answer today and could not find it in the community. Apple support also could not solve this problem.

    Answer:

In Safari preferences in the general section, there is a small box at the bottom that is checked by default, clear this check box.

    The box is called:

Open your 'safe' after downloading files

    'reliable' files include movies, photos,

  • How can I stop Firefox closes when I close the last window open?

I had to get Windows 7 reloaded and my backup was corrupted (i.e., I couldn't use my custom Firefox.) So I downloaded the new Firefox and now it closes automatically when I close the last window opened. I prefer that Firefox stay open until I chose to close it. How to achieve this?

Hello 1DKG, do you mean when you close the last open tab? If yes you can replace it as follows:
enter on: config in the address bar of firefox (confirmed the message information where it appears) and search for the preference named browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab. Double-click it and change its value to false.
