How to do a clean install:
Boot from the Windows 7 DVD
To learn how to change your BIOS options to boot from the DVD drive, the following tutorial:
http://notebooks.com/2011/05/05/How-to-load-BIOS-and-change-boot-configuration/
Click Install now
Accept the license agreement
When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.
You will receive the following warning:
The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.
(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK
The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.
Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.
You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

You can install Windows Vista 32 bit, an upgrade, however I do not recommend to do as far as the performance is usually a bit more severe if 'upgraded' through 'upgrade '.

I'm unable to upgrade Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 to Windows 7 Home Premium.
I am trying to upgrade Windows Vista Home Basic SP2 to Windows 7 Home premium. The compatibility report indicates no problem, except that the keyboard filter stops working after the upgrade. It is just information and no error, so I continued. In the 'Windows Update' step during the "collection of files, settings and programs" in point 32%, I get "Windows has stopped working" pop up and the only option given is "close the program". Tried twice with the same results at the same point. Help, please.

title says it all, power supply gone bad and may have fried the motherboard, works, but just the blue screen, have tested and pilots presentations and hard drive, all are ok. So the next step is the new motherboard if it continutes.
Hello
If xp is preinstalled replace a motherboard must be done in collaboration with the manufacturer of the computer as the OEM license is linked to the original equipment installed on
the xp license dies when the computer dies.
_________________________________________________
for reassembly, you will have to reinstall XP, then do the upgrade to Vista
Contact the computer manufacturer and ask them to send XP Recovery discs to reinstall the dos operating system as it was when you bought it
they do it for a nominal cost of $
_______________________________________________
also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought
you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer
Ask them of the exact key sequence
