How will I know if I have accidentally subscribed to a service or application?

I made a microsoft out-of-work account and I would like to know if it's really free, or if I have to pay bills or something. I have windows 8 (I won't say what kind of) and my apps don't work anymore, downloaded a troubleshoter and said that I must have a microsoft account. I want to know if I have to pay something, or when I did not agree to something, how can I know?

If you have never found something that costs, you'll know ahead.  He will never let you download and then charge you later.

If you type your credit card number or go through a "check out" like shopping, then it is free of charge.
