HP Probook s 4720: Windows 8.1 upgrade

My Hp Probook s 4720, who was originally windows 7 built has been updated to 8.1 but after a few days, that the laptop does not start easily. And when it starts it may start to 8.1 windows interface and the gel. On other occasions, it displays a BSOD with various error messages that disappear as soon as they appear. The Defender is not also from Microsoft and dispalays the erroe message 0x800b0100. Also, some software is not installing. Please help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, you have a couple of different problems.

First of all, the HP product for your device page lists no driver Windows 8 x - so they must have been installed as part of the "upgrade" or install you them yourself.  Problem with that is that laptops are delivered with the specialized requiring specialized drivers, and those that you download material site often will NOT work with laptops.  Thus, it could very well be partly caused by drivers, and since HP does not have to Win8x for your device, HP cannot provide.

Second, the problems you describe seem to indicate a failing hard drive.  You mention that your device provided with Win7, what makes this several years old.  Get 3 or 4 years on a hard drive in a laptop is on par.  So, if your machine is old, it is very likely the hard drive is a failure - this would lead to all kinds of start-up problems, the application and installation.

To verify that you need to do the following:

(1) remove the hard drive from your laptop

(2) using an internal cable or a USB adapter cable, connect the drive to a working PC

(3) by using the information on the label on the hard drive, access the site of the manufacturer, download and install any drive to check the utility that they

(4) run the utility on the disk

Utilities will usually tell you the parent 'health' of the reader.  IF they indicate that the drive is failing, your only recourse then is to replace, as you cannot repair a failing drive.

  • Fan will not go at full speed on ProBook s 4720

    I have a notebook ProBook 4720 s, Windows 7 64 bit

The problem is that the fan on my computer always remains at minimum speed and the computer warms, the fan does not accelerate to full speed. The computer is really hot ~ 70 ° C. The problem occurred when I updated the bios to its latest F.20. I think that there is a bug with this bios - that the bios will not control the fan properly. This type of laptop has a history of bugs in the bios: the original bios does the fan run all the time at full speed which has been resolved with a bios upgrade.

This bios came with a note that I can not downgrade to an earlier version which worked well. So my question is, can I expect an upgrade of the bios for this computer that could correct the error.

    to: Earhart-jir

There is a temporary workaround solution. only do so at YOUR OWN RISK.

This procedure works only on the ProBook s 4720 bios F.20. DO NOT TRY THIS METHOD ON OTHER MODELS!

It only works when the laptop is on AC POWER. Download 'read and write utilities' http://rweverything.phpnet.us/. run the program, then click the icon of the EC (embedded controller). in the on-board controller window that opens, you will see a matrix of 16 x 16 = 256 numbers that choose the "05" version in the column and row "D0". This number has an offset address 213 (in dec) and probably a value of 1.

(If you do not find it do not attempt to change a number at random, sound risky)

Change the value to something from 0 to 70 (don't exceed 7F) and the fan will speed up the desired value.

also, don't change the other values - risk of damaging the material

the procedure must be repeated every time you start

This procedure works only on the ProBook s 4720 bios F.20. on other models, the offset is different so don't try not not this method!

do it at your own risk only

the heart of the problem probably lies in the bad DSDT table (which came with the bios), but I guess that you would need an expert to fix it.

  • Is my processor for my HP Probook s 4720 extensible?

I don't know if this is the right place to put this, but I was wondering if the extensible processor for my HP Probook s 4720. I obviously will not do it myself, but if I had to take it to a store or something that I would be able to buy a better processor to put inside my laptop?

    Hello:

Here is the link to the service manual for your laptop.

    http://bizsupport1.Austin.HP.com/BC/docs/support/SupportManual/c02046514/c02046514.PDF

Please refer to Chapter 1 page 1 for the list of supported processors.

Since you don't mention what processor you have in your laptop, I leave to you to decide whether or not is of value in upgrading to the maximum supported processor (i7 - 620 M).

You can expect to pay at least a few hundred dollars or more to have a shop change the processor for you.

  • Windows 8.1 upgrade is not possible because win 8 is not enabled

A few months ago, I bought a new laptop of Toshiba Satallite with 8 Windows preinstalled
Now I want to upgrade Windows 8 to 8.1 Windows. But I don't see the upgrade of Windows 8.1 in Windows store. I think it's because my current installed windows seems not you be activated...

When I try to activate, I get error: 0xC004F074.
I found a solution using the command: SLUI 3 and then enter the product key to activate it, but I don't have a product key! There is no sticker with a product key on the laptop.

Could someone help me with this question, so I can activate my current installation of Windows 8 and upgrade to Windows 8.1?

    Hello

I had some problems with an upgrade to 8.1 to win in the past...
Finally, I managed to install the Windows 8.1 update once the laptop has been set back to factory settings.

I'm not sure if this should be done in your case, but where the 8.1 Win update is not possible after installing all the windows updates, you should reset the PC back to factory settings. After that the upgrade should work.

  • Re: Satellite Pro A300 - 2C4 "Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD" upgrade

We have a Satellite Pro A300 - 2C4 (bought on 23-11-09) that came with Vista Business 32-bit installed, but has been downgraded (using the provided diskette) to Windows XP due to the demands of corporate network.

When Windows 7 became available, I bought the DVD to upgrade to Windows 7 Toshiba provided so that if the company decided to upgrade to the new operating system, we could do it on this laptop.

That's what I tried recently to discover that we can't do as the DVD is for Win Vista upgrade Windows 7 Pro. What is the best way to upgrade without having to buy another drive to upgrade. I have a set of recovery disks for an another Toshiba SatellitePro A300 - 2 4 which was bought about 2 months before this one. These were created using the Toshiba recovery software before any changes have been made on the laprop. Would I be able to restore the system to its state of Windows Vista using these disks and then use the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD to make the upgarde?

Suggestions or recommendations would be greatly received.

This upgrade package offered by Toshiba is upgraded from Vista to Win7. So if you want to use it, you must install Vista recovery image at first.

After that, you can upgrade pre-installed Vista to Win7 following the Toshiba s implementation instructions.
I did the same thing my Qosmio X 300.

If you cannot use created recovery disc either s order Toshiba Vista recovery disk or (perhaps the best solution) install the clean version of Win7. A300 is fully supported for Win7 and you can download all the necessary drivers and tools specific to Toshiba and utilities.

  • I'll be able to perform a clean install of Windows 7 (Vista Upgrade Option)?

I was wondering if I would be able to perform a clean installation of Windows 7 with "upgrade drive" we are is sent when Windows 7 is released October 22, 2009. I had read that we will be able to upgrade the sense we will keep all our old stuff, however I just want to perform a clean install without all the garbage that comes preloaded on the computer when you buy it.

Yes, you will be able to clean install with upgrade disc. Generally, everything you had will go into a folder named windows.old, if you have backed up everything you can delete this folder but if not only get what you need, then delete. This issue will take place. The folder contains all the files you had, the programs, but you can not open them or he'll tell program not found and the files of vista or xp. I hope this helps. Just at the moment where you see the menu level or custom installation, click Custom install and who should be the ability to clean the facility.                  OS: Windows 7 Professional. PC: HP DV4t.

  • Wiping Hard Drive, Reinstalled with Windows 7 with upgrade disk product key error

My computer has been acting upward, so I back up hard drive and erased the hard drive with the BACK CLEAN ALL command. I then reinstalled windows 7 from my Windows 7 Upgrade disk and restore my files on hard disk. The computer works fantastic and returned half of the memory of the hard drive. A few days later, I get a message on the screen that I have 30 days left until I can produce a product key from the original Windows installation, does not accept the upgrade product key.

I tried the product key located on the bottom of my laptop for Windows Vista comes with the HP computer. It does not work and it gave me no disk backup for Windows Vista from HP.

I called Microsoft and they told me to contact HP for the product key. I see on this forum that someone else has written a similar plea, because it is a plea, and HP said to contact Microsoft. In other words, Microsoft says to contact HP and HP says to contact Microsoft.

I use Microsoft since Windows 3.2 operating systems and have bought a lot of products of them. It's my 3rd HP laptop, my wife is on her 2nd HP laptop. Well you know what? If I don't get this resolved quickly by one of your companies, and I'm not remember Microsoft, I'm through the two of you.

I don't see where Microsoft is not being fooled off but when it's to the detriment of a loyal customer, so don't worry. HP is also responsible for this. An upgraded version of Windows 7 (to upgrade from Vista or XP) should be smart enough (and I thought it was) to remember that I had the original version and its product key should be enough. Also I don't never told me that I had to keep the old product keys, and it doesn't matter anyway because the product key is always available in my laptop HP, but it does not work.

I'm not buying another HP without your help and actually buying an Apple Mac for my wife and my next computer if it is not resolved. I think that HP is probably as bad as Microsoft so that it will not be solved and I'm not shelling out more money for something I already own.

I used here from method 3 with success. Basically just throw the disc to upgrade from in Windows and make install an inplace upgrade.

  • I bought a new computer with Windows 7 free upgrade. We also have another office.

I bought a new computer with Windows 7 free upgrade. We also have another desktop computer. My son has paid and downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium on this computer (Asus), not knowing that I had the free update. ASUS sent me free upgrade disks. Can I use these on another desktop computer? Or I can download Windows on another desktop computer and transfer my registration to it, and then use the Asus drives on this computer?

Your question has nothing to do with the functionality of Windows Update (vs Windows upgrade), Jan.

That being said, Asus only can answer your specific question. Good luck!

    Hi Runincary,

To know if your PC is capable of running Windows, you can run Upgrade Wizard of the version of Windows that you want to update your PC to. Below, I've posted links to the wizards for the version of Windows that you want to update to upgrade.

Note:  Windows Vista is always support however, sales have ended for this version of Windows.

    Windows 8 Upgrade Wizard

    Hope that answers your question.
