HP XW6600 workstation: Question to replace ram on HP XW6600 workstation

Hello, recently my third dimm (it was 1 gb) stop working and now I have to replace it with a new one.

My current setup on the Rams was 4 fb-DIMM 1 GB each and my question is: can I replace the non-working with a ram ddr2 single memory ram or I want only a fb-dimm?

* Note: my mobo is Hewlett-Packard 0A9Ch (XU1 PROCESSOR).

Thanks for your time

These positions require the FB-DIMM (which are DDR2 as well!), standard DIMM doesn't work.

In addition, the FBDIMM replacement must have the same rank as the original.

BTW: FBDIMM is often quite cheap these days here (unless you want 4 GB or 8 GB modules), check your favorite online auction site. According to what you do with your workstation, it might be interesting to buy a kit 4x2GB instead of a single 1 GB module.

    Hello

My MBP HD headed to the exit so I'll take the plunge and get a replacement SSD to install it.  Being not too tech savvie I'm trying to cover all the bases before starting the replacement so I think I'm OK to get to the old and a new one outside.

I read that a clean install of Mac OS X is recommended.  The plan is to install the new SSD and connect the old HD the MBP for a speaker for the migration of files once the SSD has been formatted and installed operating system.  One of my questions is what OS can / should I install in the first place on the new SSD.  I have the Leopard installation disc that came with the MBP, I also have a Snow Leopard install disc I bought (this is the version 10.6.3).  Start with the Snow Leopard disc or do I have to install Leopard first?  I would get the new OS SSD up to version I'm currently on (10.7.5).

My other question is around RAM.  As part of the upgrade, I plan to replace and max of RAM, I've seen is now 8 GB between the two slots.  I read what the maximum capacity to 8 as part of an update of the firmware.  So the question is: should I do all updates of OS before installing the RAM?  The MBP would difficult treat 8GB if the firmware update is not installed through the different software updates that will be needed once the OS is installed on the SSD?

    Advice/suggestions appreciated.

Replace the RAM can be done at any time. If you have already downloaded the firmware required, it has already updated your material and will not be lost when you replace the hard drive. However, according to Apple, your computer can manage only a 4 GB. I could be missing something...

See here: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008) - technical data sheet

As far as your OS issue, the best thing to do is get the updated software to match the information that you are migrating back (to make sure no problem with migration). The best way to do it, is to download recovery disk wizard and install it on an extra USB key. This allows you to install Lion without having to install Leopard or Snow Leopard first. This will also use disk utility to format the new SSD correctly.

Anyone can help explain how to replace RAM on my Tecra M9L - 12K. Returning more I can see the most obvious place where the RAM would be installed but there is only 1 slot SODIMM here. The other is where and how can I access this? Sorry if this is a thread answered elsewhere, but I can't find the answer - maybe you could move me if this is the case?

  • Satellite A105-S4074 - Question on mixing RAM

My phone comes factory with 1 x 512 MB stick with and additional empty slot.

    Here's my Question.
I bought a stick of 1 GB for the empty slot, so if I always use the computer back to the slower RAM module (512 MB).
I read on several post its OK to mix, but the computer will always return to the slower size, less for the performance.

If this is the case it would be better to completely remove the 512 MB stick all together and replace with the 1 GB?
    Let me know your opinion.

    Hi mate

Usually, you can mix the RAM modules.
But all the modules will always run at the same speed that is supported by the slower module.

For example, the 512 MB module supports 533 Mhz.
Support for 1 GB 667 Mhz RAM
In this case the 1 GB of RAM will run at 533 Mhz, because the 512 MB supports only this speed.

  • Question of replacement HP Pavilion a6333w MoBo system # KC746AA #ABA (ECS MCP61PM-HM)

I'm working on one of these AM2 Athlon 64 X 2 4800 + (Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Media
Critters Center (32 bit)) to a customer (slowdowns, BSOD, boots, hangs / freezes).

After doing thorough hardware tests (PSU, CPU, RAM and HARD drive are all very well) and make a Visual examination very closer to the MoBo, I found that at least nine of the 1800uf TK 63 caps are slightly 'dished' to the Crown and while he has not failed completely, this isn't only a matter of time, if it fails.

I came to the inevitable conclusion that it is not worth the time I put in, a lot less time and effort involved in recapping this beast, so I recommend that you replace the MoBo, preferably with an ASUS that can use its RAM, cards and CPU.

I would like to make a restore of the system since the existing D partition, but makes the question of "HP image restore and sign up OK with a"big"change like MoBO make and model or is"indexed"to an Image type particular MoBo ID?

NOTE: The customer has lost his recovery CD in a gesture!  Big surprise!

  • Novice replacement RAM. Can I do this?

Hi, I've never tampered with any PC before, much less an iMac, but I want to increase the RAM in my iMac 2010 mid - I currently installed 2 x 2 GB strips, and now it is a little on the slow side. It seems pretty easy to make even for a novice like me. Would it not be better to:

    Replace the modules of 2 x 2 GB with 2 x 8 GB modules

    Replace the modules of 2 x 2 GB by 4 x 4 GB modules

I've read about problems with iMacs does not begin after instillation so I'm a little worried to do this, it should be fine right? Can Apple if something is wrong?

    Thank you.

Yes you can do it. Apple provides instructions: install the memory in an iMac - Apple Support

Buy memory from a vendor who housed Macs. OWC / MacSales and Crucial are the only providers I have used and can recommend. Based on the PC vendors often sell RAM that does not meet the specifications of Apple and will not work on a Mac.

Before you invest money you should first determine if the performance of your Mac is limited by available memory. For information about how to determine that please read use Activity Monitor system memory read and determine the amount of RAM is used (OS X Lion mountain and earlier versions). For later operating systems, please read Using Activity Monitor on your Mac.

  • Strange question after upgrading RAM on Tecra M10

    Greetings gurus,

    Pleeeaase help...

I recently upgraded my M10-PTMB1E to 8 GB of RAM of 2 GB.

My bios sees 8GB, Windows tells me I have 8 GB installed but 3.8 GB usable, it checked with a boot CD. Then, I pulled one of the external 4 GB chips and replace the 2 GB in. Windows detects the 6 GB.

I tested the RAM with memtest and these two circuits passed (although memtest is only 4 GB)

I thought it would be a case of updating the BIOS, but if I run the .exe files in 20091103164158-bios, bios-20091104152403 or the bios-20091104172541, I get an error saying "this computer is is not supported.

  • Tecra M3 - questions about the RAM maximum and graphics driver update

    Hi people,

I have a Tecra M3 (Variant FBCF with the Geforce 6600 w / 128 MB) and I have two questions that I hope someone here can help me with:

    (1) what is the maximum amount of RAM that I can install here? The manual says 2 GB (2 x 1 GB), but I do not see why the laptop would be paralyzed this necessary way, cause as far as I know the 915G chipset can handle 4 GB of RAM. If anyone knows definitively what?

    (2) the latest drivers from nvidia for XP are 2005. As most of you probably know, nvidia systematically more than past performance with versions driver and adds compatibility with some games that end up in trouble. The real driver from the nvidia site does not install because it says that it cannot find any compatible hardware. Can't Toshiba even a pilot updated annually? There is a driver of 2007 for Vista, I can't believe that if they did, they decide refresh the XP one while they were to him. Any chance of their audience on this here? I could force the nvidia.com driver to install, but I don't think that it's necessarily a great idea.

    Thank you!

    Hello

the maximum amount specified for this machine memory is 2 GB and 4 GB not but you can try it with 2x2gb modules.

With regard to your graphics: Don t use the nvidia driver since it is not suitable for mobile graphics chipsets and has no timing in the driver that is needed to run flawlessly.

I'd rather you to view laptopvideo2go and download some drivers here. :)

  • Question of replacement HP Pavilion M6 HD

The HD in my Pavilion M6 is a failure; I want to replace it with something faster. Specifically, I'm looking at the Seagate 1 TB Solid State Hybrid Drive SATA 6 GB/s 64 MB Cache 2.5 ST1000LM014. Will this work for my laptop?

I have replaced hundreds of hard drives of laptop and these questions are overthinking the issue, but there is no such thing as a bad question so I answer. Your computer has a GB/s SATA-III 6.0 interface. There is no maximum capacity. You can install any player portable SATA not thicker than 9.5 mm market, which I think are now available up to 2 TB. The original drive is 9.5 mm but 7 mm drives have SATA connectors and mounting holes in the same task and will run just below in the caddy. 7 mm discs works perfectly. You are looking at is 9.5 mm same as the original drive. The only problem is with thin ultrabooks which can take only 7mm readers; 9.5 will not match those. And finally, yes you can use an SSD and if you're inclined to spend premium dollars, I highly recommend it, but that you have chosen is a hybrid that is faster than a mechanical drive standard and not much more expensive.

I want to upgrade my portable computer system memory 3 GB DDR2 (800 MHz) RAM to 4 GB of RAM DDR3 (1066 MHz), which is compatible or not?

    Respect,

    Hello

In my opinion, you should follow specification not Intel and Toshiba. S Toshiba of info is based on own tests and facts.
So, depending on the specifications of Toshiba for the GM45 Chipset it is clearly written:

    Min(on Board) wheel capacity - DDR2 800 MHz 0 MB / 8 GB max
    Type of extension of memory - DDR2 800 MHz 1 GB/2 GB/4 GB
    Type of module - SO-DIMM

So if Toshiba write about 800 MHz modules, you must use the modules to them and not faster.
You may be able to use faster too, but they do not work with the maximum speed, but not going down to 800 MHz.

If you want to use max RAM amount use recommended and tested 2 x 2 Go DDR2-800 (PA3669U-1M2G).
Indicated as compatible RAM, 4 GB DDR2-800 (PA3670U-1M4G).
