Hybrid columnar Compression

The keyword is COMPRESS (below the red line) used hybrid columnar compression for a table in a database of Exadata? What do I need to specify manually for all tables allow the HCC?

Hi mAx,.

The default COMPRESSION keyword will not use hybrid columnar compression.  You must compress to a HCC level (question low/high or low/high archives).  Due to the absence of a 'AS SELECT' clause in your clause of create table example, I would also point out that compression HCC take effect with the bulk operations: create table as select insert / * + append * /, SQL * direct loader or similar way.

A syntax example:

create table pkt_header)

pkt_uid varchar2 (100),

...

)

compress by high query

like some pkt_uid,...

of source_table;

  • Create the Table as and hybrid columnar Compression

I'm looking to connect to tables help to create the table as I had a question about columnar Compression hybrid. For the test, I found that the uncompressed daata will be approximately 10 to and compressed data will be around 1 TB. I anticipate compress the table when the table to create as an instruction and wanted to know in what order Oracle forge do compression, that is, the table will be created then Oracle will compress the data or will the compressed table that the table will be created. The motivation behind the question is to see how much storage I need to complete the operation.

    Thank you

    If you are using
create table xxx compress for query high what to choose...

While the data will be compressed before insertion, so in your case, it will use about 1 TB of disk space

  • Will begin to dba Setup on exadata machine. Need guideance/information

Hi, the company I worked for more than 10 years finally decided to buy an exadata machine.

Can someone tell me where I can start building databases oracle exadata machine?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello user301176,

Don't you _have_ to change anything as the index, compression, partitions etc.?  No, you don't have to, but it can also prevent you from maximizing the benefit of the Exadata features like hybrid columnar compression.  As changes such as indexing, partitioning and compression generally involve the movement of data in any case, migration of platform (where you are already running all data) can be the perfect opportunity to make these types of changes with a minimum load.

  • Data Guard and EHCC on Exadata - does work?

Exadata Hybrid columnar Compression (OHCC) works when a database is in mode "force logging?

I fear that it may not work because OHCC works only for inserts in direct mode, which means me no logging.

We are in the process of purchasing a vault Exadata, a second target Data Guard.

V11.2 documentation Data Guard is specifically stated that Data Guard doesn't support hybrid columnar compression, but I don't know what are the implications of this.

I expect to have to solve the primary database Machine for 'forcing logging' Data Guard will be used.

    DataGuard physical or logical?

Oracle fully supports data Guard physical standby and hybrid columnar Compression on Exadata.

Direct support issues that may exist with Data Guard logic and therefore, at least at the present time, logic is not supported.

The above is to the best of my knowledge that I don't have access to the documentation of the Exadata. But was certainly true of my
last experience of HCC. Your Oracle sales representative should be able to provide the definitive answer quickly and I would be grateful
    post you here.

  • Columnar Exadata only compression

Does anyone have an idea why this advanced compression feature is only available for exadata? I've waited for 11 GR 2 out (especially because of the promise that you can use AC with a logical database in standby). I was very happy to hear about the columnar compression, and when I went to use BAM... it won't work, because I'm not on an exadata... Any ideas why? Is this a trend with the new performance features?

From Kevin Closson [first blog entry on columnar compression | http://kevinclosson.wordpress.com/2009/09/01/oracle-switches-to-columnar-store-technology-with-oracle-database-11g-release-2/] indicates (in the comments) that this limitation is the result of technical constraints not only for marketing reasons. I didn't entirely my head around what this feature to be able to understand why this does not work outside the Exadata, but I'm sure that there are technical limitations here the analysis of Kevin.

I guess I expect Oracle to find cases where the Exadata team can implement optimizations that are not an option on systems no-Exadata. On the other hand, I don't see this as a case where Oracle would keep features that could be applied in non-Exadata as characteristics Exadata only systems in order to encourage companies to shift to Exadata. I do not see as being in the interest of Oracle to non-Exadata hardware platforms explicitly second-class. One of the main points of sale of Oracle that it is platform independent.

  • Compression type

    Hello
11 g on WIN 2003, what is the proper syntax to COMPRESS:

    Hi,

Where did you find this syntax? I think that's the new Compression hybrid columnar, which is exclusively designed for Exadata.

  • HCC and PctFree

We seek to optimize storage space and I had a question about Compression hybrid columnar (HCC) and pctfree values. I think that the basic compress clause will use a pctfree 0 unless you specify a value. I know also that compress for OLTP will use a pctfree 10 unless ignore you it. My question is will HCC will automatically use a pctfree 0 or does use a different default value. I think that to archive high, he would use a pctfree 0, but wanted to see if someone could confirm this.

HCC should use a pctfree 0 as compression units (UC) are written only once - lines cannot be added to a CPU at a later stage in time then why leave free space which can never be used?

  • TimesTen and OLAP

    Hello
I'm on the mission to verify that advanateges can give TimesTen database OLAP performance. TT is kind of a new topic for me and I would be grateful for helping me to understand this:

According to the documentation TT is "memory resident relational data base". I learned to use an improved version of the TT with OLAP database. I need Exalitycs for such activity or is - it possible to deploy TT for OLAP on any system?

Then... I can install Sofware DB with OLAP option and then create the database using the Warhouse data model and then I can use TimesTen database cache, but only for relational structures?

Yes, but TimesTen should be based on the application level (server) where your BI application based for best performance. TimesTen can cache data from Oracle tables only.

I can't live without columnar compression, but using TT without running sums, cubes, and so on is useless. Am I wrong?

It depends on. TimesTen previous versions (11.2.1 7.0.X) do not have these features at all :), but I know that some clients who have used the 7.0.5 TT fine BI for example. TimesTen 11.2.2 intoduced many new SQL features as analytical functions (AVG, SUM, COUNT, MAX, MIN, DENSE_RANK, RANK, ROW_NUMBER, FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE) clauses (BY and ON ORDER BY PARTITION), etc.
The full list you can find here (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21901_01/doc/timesten.1122/e21630/toc.htm#BEIBHIHG). These features absolutely free of use except (rollups, cubes and game of pool).
In addition, you can rewrite your SQL queries without using these operators.

    Kind regards

  • Column 3 hybrid - how can I limit container Compression?

My page is looking great and I like the hybrid 3 columns layout. But when I drag a corner of my window, the container of content at the Center compresses all the way down to nothing while my side bars remain intact, as they should. How can I allow the container Center compress up to a certain point and stop so that the Center and the container page keep a certain minimum size?

file names have turned to the bruises on my dell hybrid. I compressed my NTFS drive week last to create more space and since then, all the names of txt on my files are now blue. is there a reason for this?

    Hello JordanMcGinn,

Please see the link below regarding this issue.

File changed police in blue: it's normal - blue means that the file is compressed

  • Is it possible to compress more that can compress Finder?

    Hello

I would like to compress my files more compress Finder. Is this possible? How can it be done? Need me external software for it?

Not in a practical sense. If there were a better way than has been reliable and fast, Apple would already be him.

If you are out of space, you need a bigger drive or an additional drive, or decide to place some of your 'stuff' on a player that remains on your desktop and is not available when you carry your PC autour.

  • Bluetooth audio compression with W1 chip?

    Hello

I recently ordered the new iPhone 7 more and was wondering about different options for headphones, now that I can not connect the iPhone to power at the same time, I plug my headphones. I know that there are already third-party links, which should solve exactly this problem, but they are still a bit expensive - and the sound quality could be very degraded due to the use of a DAC at low cost.

With this in mind, it seems that the best option would be to switch to wireless headphones. However, as far as I know, Apple only supports Bluetooth A2DP audio Protocol, which compresses more usually already compressed stream or file. This compression is equal to double, which means audio gradient. You happen to know if this is still the case with the iPhone 7? -Do you happen to know if the W1 chip installed in the Airpod and 2 other Beats headphones - solves this problem? I couldn't find an answer anywhere else.

    Best,

    Joe

doubt will not double compression decreases the audio

Think about it if transform you mp3 audio, then Yes you get the degradation but if you mp3 zip file and bring your friend and unzip it, it will be the same quality as mp3 that you had in the first place, but the thing is the compression of something already compressed not really sometimes compresses the file would even take more room

  • Apple UDIF read only compressed (bzip2) in my iMac!

I noticed a new feature added to my iMac:

    'Apple UDIF read-only compressed (Bzip2)'

What? Why? and how did get there?

    Why do I need?

I think, but not sure it was added after the last updated iTunes (version 12.1)

    No explanation will be appreciated.

    PS

It does not appear in my Finder...

    Thank you

This is the disk image to the Flash Player installer that you downloaded.

It is not mounted, so it will not be displayed in the Finder.

With it, selected as shown in the second screenshot, click on the button of the mount. Then, eject in the Finder.

  • Now to compress a video and record all tracks?

I have a HD movie (.mov, .mp4,...) including some audio tracks and subtitles. I am happy to look at them with Apple TV, but now I just need to compress one of them to something much smaller, but... but with the same titles (video, audio, subtitlesss). I tried QT but it keeps not all tracks.

Is there any Apple way? Thank you

What size is it now and what size do you need it to be?

Reduce the resolution of 1080 to say, 540 p will drop the size of nearly 60% and 85% about if 480 p.
