Hypervisor ESXi and vSphere?

Hi all

I just noticed in the download section. Is ESXi 4.1 hypervisor identical to what we download from the inside of the section of vSphere?

In addition, in vSphere article is there a difference between various essential category, Standard, etc? Because when I click on them, the content is all the same.

Thank you.

There is no difference in the binaries. According to the license key that you apply, the different functions are locked or unlocked.

  • ESXi and vSphere support on older hardware?

I have freelance consulting work.  I often need a VMware platform for the work I do.  For the most part, I've been running on desktop on my laptop.  That works well for some things, but for other things, I really need ESXi.

Being a small shop with a budget of small equipment, I'm looking for a low cost solution.  I found an old HP DL380 G4 for a very reasonable price.  It is not a big box, but it would do well for my needs.

My question: how long is this likely to be taken platform supported in ESXi/vSphere?  No reason to expect to stop working anytime soon, or should I expect to work "forever"?

    Thank you!

I have a few old DL360 G4 models in my test environment, and they certainly VT support. A glance on the Intel site shows that without VT - x support (http://ark.intel.com/products/27089/64-bit-Intel-Xeon-Processor-3_60E-GHz-2M-Cache-800-MHz-FSB) XEON Processors

  • Move VMS between server ESXi and vSphere ESX server

    Dear all,

I want to move some a vSphere ESX server virtual machines to ESXi server.

I understand that some users will use CPS to move between the ESX servers, but apparently not for moving between different products.

I'm just using a slow and prone to error method:

The files of the virtual machine to my deskop PC of vSphere ESX server and then upload to the ESXi server.

I would advise you to please all of the methods that is better than this one?

    Help, please.

    Kind regards

    Tommy

If you got a central storage you can move virtual machines between the two products with vMotion. Since you don't seem to have available vMotion, you pouvez use scp. SCP has nothing to do with ESX/ESXi products. It is a Linux/Unix program which is available in both servers.

So with the CPS, you need a little less.

    The syntax is like:

    SCP - r/path/to/vm/directory user@esxi:/path/to/new/location

  • How to correctly record the ESXi 4.0 and vSphere Client for free?

    Hello everyone.

Can someone help me with registration

of free VMware ESXi 4.0? I am totally confused with the process I

    certainly do not understand.

My goal is to install and use ESXi

4.0 and manage via vSphere client with free licenses free of charge for

more than 60 dayes. Is it possible?

    Installation of its products

gone without problems, but failed to save. I found a few

suggestion on other threads, but nothing helped. Give me a hand please,

    I will be grateful.

    I'll write what I did:

    1. I went to the http://www.vmware.com/products/esxi/ site.

    2. I read that I can get the free license for VMware ESXi 4 and VMware vSphere Client.

    3. Decided to download this software, registered and was redirected to
the site where I could download iso 4 ESXi and vSphere Client .exe

    4. Installation and basic configuration of ESXi on the bare metal and vSphere Client Windows XP without problems.

    5. I am able to create virtual machines and use it - it's OK, but vSphere Client know that I have to the 60-day trial.

    6. Meanwhile I received the email with "Activate your VMware ESXi license".

    7. I have
Click on the link in the e-mail and was redirected to the same
the site, where I can download the software, but on the top of the web page I can
find information and a 'ESXI licenses""this license key is valid.
"for VMware ESXi 3.5 Update 2 and later versions. So I guess it's also valid
      for ESXI 4.0. I'm I right?

    8. I would like to record my ESXi 4 software installed and the vSphere Client. Of
      I chose the vSphere Client Menu: help - & gt; VMware on the web - & gt;
Sign up for now. The site ask me "series/license number Activation".
Code"so I typed the license key. Iassume that this license key should not be placed here, because the web site of replay that: "Code of Activation of series/license number has already been registered. So how do?

As I wrote, I'm confused. How to correctly record the ESXi 4.0 and vSphere Client? What I did wrong and how to fix?

To register the serial number in your ESX4i host

Home-> inventory-> higher level (your ESXi host)

    Tab Configuration

    Left side - features licensed

Edit-> Assign new key for this host-> Enter Key

    Paste your key

    Confirm all

Your ESXi server is now fully licensed

Note: you no longer have the basic features and all the enterprise features that came with a trial license are no longer valid

    Hi guys

I have a x 3650 M2 aging IBM server running the free version of vSphere 4 Hypervisor ESXi 4.1.0 260247.

I'm looking to install esxi version 4.1 Patch11.

    I have a few questions:
    1. I am able to patch to version 4.1 Patch11 without having to re - build the host and re - import the virtual machine?

    2. I am able to buy the paid version of the Patch11 4.1 so I can get the support of VMware? If so where can I buy it.

    3. Alternatively if I can't buy Patch11 4.1 can I buy VMware vSphere Essentials Kit 5.5 version and update without having to re - build the host and re - import the virtual machine on top of the 4.1? My server is about 4 years, I am worried if she composed with 5.5?

    Kind regards

  • 4 ESXi and VMware vSphere CLI

    Hello

I can't start a discussion in the community CLI to I write here.

When I try to use the CLI tools to manage a few shots on an ESXi 4 Server I get strange errors.

    CMD: snapshotmanager.pl - Server XXX.XXX.XXX. XXX - XXXXXX - nom_snapshot Test vmname - create operation

    Result:

    Fault:

    SOAP fault:

    -

    Error string: error. RestrictedVersion.summary

    Lack of details: RestrictedVersionFault

The operation using 'list' works very well but not create or delete.

No idea why it does not work for a 4.0 host but is ideal for a 3.5?

The reason why it worked for you on ESXi 3.5 is probably the version you were using was U2 or U3 where the VI API has an internal bug that allowed two full read/write access, which allows you to perform operations such as switching to a virtual computer or take a snapshot. Go ESXi 3.5u4 +, which includes 4.0 moving forward, the API VI is read-only. Before more details please look here: http://vmetc.com/2009/03/31/esxi-u4-ends-free-version-read-and-write-access-from-the-rcli/

You still have a few options, either unlock the console SSH not supported to automate snapshots using vimsh vim - cmd wrapper, using the VI Client or use VMware VIX and vmrun which currently is not governed by the VI API, take a look here for more information: is not happy with lockdown 3.5u4 VI API/RCLI ESXi? Worry not, VMware VIX to the rescue... for now =)

The STOR. E BASICS 500 GB 2.5 "is the USB3.0 external HARD disk.
It s a device plug n - and - play, requiring no additional drivers.

Toshiba says that this HARD drive works properly under Microsoft Windows XP/Vista / Windows® 7 8/Windows/Windows 8.1

The HARD disk supports the USB3.0 standard, and this means that you must 900mA can get it recognised correctly.
In the case where the drive HARD isn't recognized on USB 2.0, I recommend you to use a USB cable to Y which allows to connect the HARD drive to two USB 2.0 ports

  • Install ESXi/ESX/Vsphere on a single isolated standalone workstation

In the hardware compatibility list, I noticed that the HP Z840 workstation is compatible with ESXi/ESX/Vsphere. In fact, the HP Z840 is the only HP computer that is not a server and still included in this list of compatibility.

For the moment, I have a unique stand-alone HP Z820 workstation.

If I decide to upgrade to a new computer HP Z840 independent, I will be able to install, configure and use ESXi/ESX/Vsphere on it and install top one, two or more systems of guest OS designed to run simultaneously, without having to connect this workstation Z840 even temporarily on another computer, separate console or network?

There are two types of virtualization-

    1 bare Metal virtualization-

ESXi is a virtualization software, have you install directly on the physical server from bare metal hardware. ESXi is very compact.

Then to manage ESXi host and create the virtual machine on ESXi host, you need a system more to run vSphere Client or use client Host.

ESXi directly access physical resources, which improve the performance of virtual machines.

    2 hosted virtualization-

VMware workstation is a hosted type virtualization software, install you it on any system Windows or Linux and then create virtual machine on it.

Windows underlying system provides material resources to virtual machines created in workstation that's why you get no good performance of the VM as compare to ESXi

Today VMware workstation 12 perform as well, if you simply create VMS to test or purpose LAB VMware workstation will also work.

For good performance, then you must ESXi host at least a Client system to manage ESXi and VMs.

    Thank you

  • a few questions about ESXi and SAN CF with HP P2000 G3

    Hello everyone!

I am new to ESXi and SAN, then I need help for her.

I have Encolosure C7000 system with 4 blades BL460c already installed ESXi 5.1U1 (HP custome ISO image). Everything works fine now, but I do not understand something:

-What is the management network which I use vSphare Client to connect to? It is a private network to manage ESXi servers what difference with VMnetwork used by Virtual Machines? Because I've set up an IP address for this connection manually, but it is of course separate with IP addresses, I used on Virtual Machines.

-If my system has problem, so I have to reinstall ESXi, license keys can be used again? Already, I have 8 license key for 4 blades (2 CPUs per server), but they have not yet used. Because I am new to ESXi, cause I had to reinstall ESXi several times to understand.

-When I install successful ESXi, I don't know how to start working with SAN. What should I configure P2000 before it be plugged into the SAN switch? Or I can plug it then config later? Because I don't see it on the ESXi server. And on the OS I installed on the Guest Virtual Machines, I see nothing new in Device Manager. I thought that this guest operating system will detect the mezzanine card. But I see only mezzanine card that connect to the P2000 by SAN switch in ESXi (see image here http://img203.imageshack.us/img203/684/dsc04088k.jpg ). Yes, it's a separate network used only for traffic management between ESXi hosts and vCenter - it is also the network used to connect to the environment - that's different, then the network used by your virtual machines

Yes, you will be able to configure the San later - by default, the virtual machine will not see the SAn, as it is virtualized by your ESXi host - all the VM will see is a virtual SCSi disk - this doc's guide to vmware for storage - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/topic/com.vmware.ICbase/PDF/vsphere-esxi-vcenter-server-511-storage-guide.pdf - you can visit the website of HP they might have documentation on configuring P2000 for vSphere -.
