If you want to get rid of your current C drive and replace it with the new drive, you need to do is to clone the current drive to the new drive (which will eventually C - not being DO NOT D).

Depending on where you got the new disk, software cloning may have been grouped with it or may be available free of charge from the website of the manufacturer of the car.  Otherwise, you need to get - this software can (and should) also be used for regular backups.

Some cloning software choices are:

Acronis True Image Home http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/trueimage/

Paragon Backup and Recovery 10 Home http://www.paragon-software.com/home/brh/

Casper Smart Clone 6: http://www.fssdev.com/products/casper/

Follow the directions for the product that you choose carefully.

When the clone operation is complete, shut down the computer WITHOUT RESTARTING, unplugging the old drive and connect the new drive where the old drive used to be connected.  This is particularly important if your new drive has been internal during the process of cloning rather than connected via USB.

If you restart with the original, the cloned drive connected, Windows gets very confused.

See, for example, Casper's manual on pages 3-7 (pdf, pages 6-10): http://download.fssdev.com/download/userguide/fss_casper_60_userguide.pdf
