I am trying to recover my old favorites (and, hopefully, history) from my old computer to transfer to my new computer.
I got the hard drive from my old computer and am trying to transfer my old files to it, but I'm not sure where to find the old bookmarks files. It would be wonderful if you could also help to recover the history - I was in the habit of keeping a large number of tabs open and simply restore everytime I restarted my computer, so a lot of data was lost when my computer crashed.
Hello
If the backup files are intact, then you would be able to copy the files required in the backup after installing Firefox and it works at least once in the new PC.
You must copy and overwrite the files needed from the old profile folder in the same folder structure in the new profile. Some important files might be places.sqlite who holds the bookmarks and history, the cert8.db that stores personal and other certificates, signons3.txt + signons.sqlite that stores websites registered names to user/passwords etc. To open the profile folder, in Firefox, help (Alt + H) > troubleshooting information > Open the containing folder and the release of Firefox.

I'm trying to import my IE Favorites and have read the instructions, but the import button in the file in gray and will not let me import. Any ideas?
Try using the import option in the Bookmark Manager (also known as the name of the library)
- In Firefox, select the bookmarks menu, then "organize bookmarks" open library
- In the library, select "Import and backup" then "Import HTML.
- You should get I hope that the ability to import from Internet Explorer.

Prob w/Importing Favorites and other data from Internet Explorer
Everything by following the steps described in the forum article titled "Importing Favorites and other data from Internet Explorer" after completing step 3, select which points to import, if I select all the option or just the Favorites, I get the same error "Firefox has stopped working... close the program."
I am importing of IE 8 on laptop Win7 OS. I tried importing every time and cannot get past this error. I made an export of IE8 that takes the form of a html file that there is apparently no option in Firefox to use.
in Firefox:
Bookmarks > organize bookmarks-> import and backup - import HTML... = HTML file -
I have the internet Charter. I am a home user. I tried to set the parental control and received this message: because this computer is connected to a domain, Parental controls are not available. Again, I am a home user. What does that mean?
Hello
1. which user account you are using for Parental control (Please note that you cannot apply parental controls on a user admin account? It can be applied to standard user only accounts)?
2 have you made changes on the computer before this problem?
I ask through the following article to find out how to set up Parental controls:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/parental-controls
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/set-up-parental-controls
After completing the above links persist issue please fallow the mentioned below of the methods.
Method 1: Disable UAC (User Account Control) and check the result
See http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/how-do-I-change-the-behavior-of-user-account-control-by-using-the-sliderNote: You must restart your computer when you enable or disable UAC. Change levels of notification does not require that you restart your computer.
Important: Enable UAC after you complete the steps.
Method 2: If the problem persists, try to set the parental control in safe mode and check the result. If you are able to apply settings in safe mode, this means that some program is causing this problem, mainly the security software.
See http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-modeHope the above information is helpful.

I tried dragging and deleting MyYahoo in the homepage and it resets to Bing, whenever I have reconnect.
Hi Mnor,
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base How to set the home pagearticle. Your home page might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc. (and it appears winzip) have been know to ask to become your homepage.
There are the steps in this article to reset your preferences on the default home page. I would try everything first to clear all strangeness. If it works, you can try to set your homepage again to your personal preferences.
If this does not work, you should look at article unsaved Preferences.
Finally, your problem may be because you have been hit by some malware.
Hope this helps!

Help, please! Thank you!
The 'password jumper thing' (?) would be used to clear a BIOS password, not a Windows password. Are you talking about? If a password of BIOS (necessary when you turn on the computer), please give the model/brand/model of your computer (example: laptop Dell Inspiron 1525).
If a Windows password:
If you have forgotten your password, if you have another user who has administrative privileges account you can log in to that account and change the password of your account of origin of the user accounts applet in Control Panel. If you do not have another account like this set upwards or that you do not have the password which you will need to log on to the built-in Administrator account. In XP Home, start the computer in Mode safe. This, by repeatedly pressing the F8 key as the computer starts. This will put you in the right menu. Navigate using your arrow up; the mouse does not work here. Once in safe mode, you will see the normally hidden administrator account. The default password is white.
In XP Pro, you don't need to go to Safe Mode. In the home screen, do Ctrl-Alt-Del twice to get the classic Windows logon box. Type in "Administrator" and the password that you assigned when you set up Windows.
If you have XP Pro or Media Center and have been using the account administrator for your regular work so it is the only user account on the system, there are ways to change the password for this account to a white. Microsoft does not allow us to tell how, in these forums. Their House, their rules. Use Google or ask a technician to the local computer (not a type of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad of the place).

Given that the system on my laptop crashed, I did disk image on external disk c and format on the hard drive. Now, I wanted to copy all data from the disk image but system overwrites every time. I can't get back passwords, e-mails, story for firefox and thunderbird disk image. Picture disc I made of Acronis, so I can't restore necessary data and files (it is possible to make a complete copy, but I need only the data, as mentioned above). Thank you!
you don't specify what version of acronis you use - on their website they give advice on how to restore individual files, so in principle it is possbile: http://kb.acronis.com/content/10645 - if you need more details, please contact acronis support.
in regard to your firefox settings, these are stored in your profile folder. for reference, see recovering data from an old profile

How to transfer data from an old laptop (broken screen) to a new laptop

The easiest way would be to put his HARD drive in a box that connects to the computer by USB.
This is just an example - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hard-Drive-Caddy-Case-Enclosure/dp/B003MVW2SM
You probably have a 2.5 HDD "because I know that all laptops do. If you need to buy an enclosure for a 2.5 drive "[not a disk 3.5" that could come from a desktop computer].
Almost all cases derive the power to drive the HARD drive to the USB itself [rather than an external power]. If you see one that needs an external power supply, then you are probably looking to the wrong thing.
You need to know if the HARD drive is IDE or SATA. It depends on the age of the computer. Your computer's manual should tell you or you can whip the HARD drive just to have a look.
- Here is an illustration of an IDE - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Generic-Toshiba-Fujitsu-Samsung-Hitachi/dp/B0042WZZD4/ref=pd_sim_147_4?ie=UTF8&dpID=21bYEH0CONL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=125C3XKTAFS54XACCCZ8 - connection if you look at the diagrams that you will see that there are long rows of pine trees coming from the HARD disk - what is FDI.
- Here are illustrations of a connection SATA - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Screw-drive-Enclosure-laptop-Laptop/dp/B003RIL0EM/ref=pd_sim_147_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=419CrJiBX9L&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=125C3XKTAFS54XACCCZ8 and http://www.amazon.co.uk/drive-Enclosure-laptop-Caddy-Laptop/dp/B00926NM8K/ref=pd_sim_147_9?ie=UTF8&dpID=31sO4aOkykL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=125C3XKTAFS54XACCCZ8 - the diagrams show the link inside that connects the HARD drive on [if it's a reflection of what sticks out from HARD drive]-you can see that the connection is a long slot in two sections to the HDD has a long protruding into two sections - which is SATA.

I have all my old files on an external and trying to restore my favorites from my old computer
I had wine spilled on my old computer and it no longer works, but I was able to transfer all my files and information on an external hard drive after. Is it possible to find and to transfer my favorites on my new computer from the information that I was able to save, or are they gone forever because I was not able to perform manual backups?
Your data including passwords, bookmarks, etc., are contained in your profile folder. You can recover the files from that. See profiles of boards - where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other data from the user and use the Profile Manager to create and delete profiles Firefox

How can I recover my old data settings document files firefox bookmarks and favorites of ie8.
I need to reinstall windows xp sp2 I turned off my pc by updating the os now I ask a question after the reinstallation of the sp2 would be it possible to recover my old data settings firefox favorites bookmarks of ie8 and norton antivirus 360 documents.
You might see if this folder is located on your computer. Depending on how you installed Windows, it could be an old version of some files in pre-installation.
C:\Windows.Old\
But beyond that, there's no other place I could think that perhaps it would be after a reinstallation.
Shameless plug for the new version:
If you used Windows 8, all of your documents, files, Favorites, bookmarks are saved on your Microsoft Account so that you can use them even if you get a new computer (or reinstall an old one). -

Hello
If it is a recent problem, I advise to use system restore to return to a date and an hour before, when you made the changes. See the following article for the step by step procedure.
If this does not resolve the problem, you can use the system restore option Cancel to return to the current state.
Let us know the results.
