====================================
There are several types of AVI files, and they can
be problematic. Maybe the info would be
be interesting reading... good luck.

If you want to just put your video on a DVD for
for archival purposes, you would create a data DVD.

See the following article:

Windows 7 - burn a CD or DVD in Windows Explorer
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/burn-a-CD-or-DVD-in-Windows-Explorer
(See "to burn a disc using the ISO image format")

To create a video DVD (which will play in)
a free-standing DVD player)... you need DVD
Software authoring as Windows DVD Maker.

See the following articles:

Windows 7 - burn a video DVD with Windows DVD Maker disc
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/burn-a-DVD-video-disc-with-Windows-DVD-Maker

If you still have problems, the AVI may need to
be converted to WMV format before burning.

There are to many converters available on the net...
some free, some details... the following freeware is
just an example:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Freemake Free Video Converter (freeware)
http://www.Freemake.com/free_video_converter/
(Windows XP / Vista / 7)
(* Read * all * the installation screens... it)
may be a few items you want to unmark *)

When you have installed Freemake... Open Freemake
and drag and drop your video files on the main screen.

Or... Click left on the video button and navigate to the
your video files are saved in the folder.

Select (highlight) the files you want to import into
Freemake and left, click on the button 'open '.

When video files are imported into Freemake,
On the left, click the WMV icon at the bottom of the screen.

The 'WMV output settings' screen opens.

Choose a folder ' save in ', so you can find the
converted files.

On the left, click the "Convert" button and wait for the files
to convert.

That should do it...

    Hi N2tjq,

Are a. When you facing this problem?

    B. is - what happens with all DVDs?

    C. recent changes made on the computer?

I firstly you suggests to save the project to your computer, and then try to burn on a DVD at a slower burning speed.

Choose a speed slower burn to your DVD recorder as follows:

1 back to adding photos and video to the DVD page and then click on Options.
    2. in the DVD burner speed box, select medium or slow.

  • No reading DVD with Windows Media Player

    WMA crashed

I used to use Nero on my old computer. I built a new computer and bought Vista and liked the use of Nero I installed it on Vista. During the installation it windows warned me that there is perhaps a conflict if I installed it. I went a head with him and of course, there was and nero would not work. I tried to uninstall it and was able to complete the removal of the program, because it has a conflict and stops. At this stage the WMP always worked very well. Recently, I installed a DIVX player... not by choice... I wasn't thjought I DL update or something, not a media player and pay any attention to any. So I removed the player and now I can't watch a DVD in my media player more. He tells me that windows media player has stopped working. I send the reports to help set and have nothing in return as in to solve the problem

What are my options? Thank you!

    Hello casey_,

    Thank you for your response.

In addition to the Bindu response, you can also try to perform a restore of the system to an earlier point before the installation of the program, and then check the issue. For more information about the use of system restore, please see the link below: System Restore

If the problem persists, please relay the error message received when you try to play a DVD with Windows Media Player, and if the problem occurs when you try to play the DVD or single.

A grade side is that I have all of the original photo files.  But they are not embedded in the .wmv file.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Cannot copy a CD with Windows Media Player because there is not an option in this sense: Win 7 HPE

I can't figure out how to rip tracks from a CD with Windows Media Player.  Loading of WMP, there is not listed as a choice of menu option or a tab options which includes RIP.  I see the titles of the tracks on the CD appears on the left of the screen and to PLAY BURN, and sync tabs in the upper right.  Choose BURN change the screen to tell that I can drag the titles to this area to be burned.  I tried to choose individual tracks and dragging their but nothing has changed.  I tried selecting all tracks with the same result.  I tried selecting a range, right click to get the context menu, but there is no other choice in the menu.  I found a how-to, but the view shown for WMP is not the same that I see.

    A screenshot:

He is there software - see this link for an example (IE I do not recommend it!)

    http://www.ehow.com/how_5790301_rip-audio-tracks-DVD.html

.. .but it always have to be careful with third party software - it can cause problems. Do some overlap before hitting the "Download" button and do not forget to uncheck the boxes for any unwanted attached to it.

Regarding how I pick up? Pure just knowing how to look at the screens! Insert correct cd and you will see the difference.

  • Try burning your own movies on a DVD with Windows Media Player... Help, please

I created a video in movie maker.  He recorded as a MP4 video that is 4.25 GB. The film is less than 30 minutes.  I'm trying to burn to a DVD + R that says it holds 8.5 GB / 240 minutes using Windows Media Player.  It is said that my file is too large to fit on the disk.  I don't understand why.  Help, please.

I have seen other issues similar to mine where people suggested other software download burning DVDs.  If that's what I do, I'll do it.  However, I also know WHY the windows media player tells me that my file is too large because when I look at the numbers, it seems that it is NOT.  It seems that windows media player should be able to accomplish this simple task that I have to look for other software to download and learn.

    Thanks again!

Windows Media Player can only burn files to DVD as data disc burning, the disc is not compatible with the DVD player. You can consult this guide, this is how burn mp4 movie to DVD, hope this helps you.

  • make a copy of a dvd with windows media player

A few years ago I had some old movies on vhs that I managed to copy onto dvd discs when I got a dvd recorder.   I would now like to make copies of these records.   I am using media player but I'm not good with this.  I put a disc in the drive of my laptop and it plays without any problems.  But what I do after that?  to import the contents of the disc to my library?  all attempts to do so have not - I have to do something wrong.  When I look to the top of 'help' it especially assumes that you have already backed up files/folders on your pc, any help at all would be appreciated.

Windows Media Player cannot copy or burn video DVDs.

Here's a way to copy the DVD. You start by creating
an Image of the DVD then you burn the image on
    your drafts of DVD.

If this is 'not' a commercial - protected against copying DVD...
the following freeware can create an ISO Image
    that allows to burn copies.

FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Download ImgBurn:

    (The download is: SetupImgBurn_2.5.5.0.exe)

(During the installation there will be an option to install
Shortcuts of UniBlue and the "Ask Toolbar"... you can
    you want to deselect those)

  • Where can I get directions to EXTRACT only the audio of a DVD with Windows Media Player v11

Have investigated this question on the NET and seen various solutions (freeware), but I have just started using WMP to migrate my CD music in MP3 format.

I have some great DVD rip also I want. Any direction is appreciated!

    Hi PEL7176,

Windows media player only supports the extraction of CD and DVD not.

You may need to use a third-party software to perform this procedure.

NOTE: Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the use of third-party software can be resolved. Software using third party is at your own risk.

  • Cannot read the DVD with Windows Media Player

Running WIndows Server 2008 R2.  Desktop experience is responsible.  In my view, that it includes Windows Media Player V12.

Try to play the DVD.  The message "setting resolution".  Setting resolution does not help.

Installed K-Lite Codec Pack full.  Get the same message on the resolution setting.  Uninstall K - Lite Codec Pack now I get ' WMP cannot play the DVD because no compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer.

I'm a novice and dangerous, so no "step-by-steps" would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi MarkMann,

Your question of Windows is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. It is better suited for Windows Server on TechNet. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows Server forum.

Open your music folder and see if you can find the files in question.

When you find the folder, the files are saved in... try to add to a playlist in WMP.

I don't want to have to adjust my power management, whenever I have a movie. How can I do Media Player on ride my power management settings?  Kevin

    Hi Polaristool,

You can not edit and add multimedia player for the power settings do not to turn off the screen while playing and watch the movie.

You must define tour screen and put the computer to sleep forever or extend the time of action for these parameters in power option.

Access the links below and follow the steps to change the settings of your computer's power options.

  • SD not recognized by Windows Media Player, but there are songs there!

Hi there, this may be related to my previous post about the unknown artist (for which I didn't get any answer!) ).  Anyway, there is a new bug now.  I reconnected it to WMP, and it reads that I have an external SD (which I do), but says that he has no songs on it (which exists).  Earlier, in WMP, it registered the songs when I clicked on the SD card.  It the bed as having only 1 mb of space on the card, which would be fair.

I can play some songs on the device that are on the card external sd (but those entitled 'unknown').  I'm so confused and it's quite frustrating and counterintuitive.  I'm going on a long trip in 2 days (of course!), and this is my first product Sansa.  I have NO IDEA what to do.  Help, please

WMP is a curse! I find his oprtions synch counterintuitive and downright dangerous for the contents of your library or on the drive.

That says Windows Explorer is located on the map? You can use it to drag & drop of the stuff to/from the player - for me, it works better than WMP for content management.

Depending on whether your rocket is set to MTP or MSC in settings-> system-> USB Mode settings, the map will be either see the place as a directory under \My Computer\Sansa Fuze xGB or as a removable drive in its own right with its own drive letter.

Note also that the files that put you on the memory internal rocket in MTP mode are not visible to the computer when it is connected in MSC mode & vice versa. You can see things on the card or mode, but the directory structure is slightly different in MTP mode.

Do not use WAV format - there are problems with the "rocket" understand them. MP3 works fine & uses less space. If you want really audio not compressed, use FLAC.
