I can't change the google search engine, Yahoo

I have read and tried several suggestions on how to change my google search engine and it will not change to google. I deleted everything that yahoo from my computer, I did the troubleshooting suggestions, I have used malawarebytes and essentials of microsoft. In addition, I deleted the tap/youtube downloader and the toolbar, which includes the Add - ons, ms config, registry, and in my programs. Nobody, apart from what has already been mentioned what I can do to change the yahoo to google search engine. I would like to add, I still have the same problem in safe mode.

  • How can I change the default search engine in firefox 14?

I tried to change my default search engine, does not. A read a lot of the help file, but it seems that none of the recommendations had jobs. The problem is in the search box in the upper right where the default from now (the search engine when I open firefox for the first time) is Yahoo. I had tried to change it to goggle by clicking on the drop down arrow and select a new search engine, but does not take effect. Yahoo is still in effect so that the search engine despite this change. I also followed the advice of some to change the default engine by typing "subject: config" in the address bar and some values but still after the opening and closing firefox again, Yahoo is still the default search and could be that the change by selecting from the drop-down search menu.

Thank you for your answer but I managed to fix the problem already. What I did is to select from the dropdown to Ask.com (it seems that it is the only option that work) a window appeared asking me what a search engine change was made, and if I would use Ask.com to be the search engine or to maintain using Yahoo.com. I chose to use Ask.com and disable the protection on the search engine. Toke effect change and after that I could change from the drop down list a search engine like Google. I put a note above in parenthesis closed, that it seems Ask.com works as I tried before to change the search engine Google, but no window came to ask me if I want to change the default search engine.

Once again thanks a lot to you two, for the reply and for your precious time to try to solve this problem.

  • How can I change the default search engine in the navigation bar?

I tried the subject: solution of config and it did not work. My search engine used to be Google, but it has changed to a random search engine that doesn't even have an official name. Is there no option in the menu dropdown. And there is no option in the FireFox Options. I wonder why it is so difficult to change something like that. There should be a button for those of us who are not computer savvy. Am getting irritated that I can't just look for something more.

  • How can I change the default search engine in the address bar?

Beta toolbar AVG changed the search engine used when I type in the address bar of Yahoo search. I uninstalled AVG completely toolbar beta, but I can't seem to find out how to change the search back to Google search engine.

Skip this step if you also have a Yahoo toolbar
    Remove the Yahoo toolbar

    1. 'Ctrl + Shift + A' (add-on Manager)
    2. Select the piece of the Puzzle on the left side for list Extensions
    3. Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click the "Uninstall" button and restart Firefox. (if you really need to keep the Yahoo toolbar, you can hide the toolbar instead with personal and always not to change all default search settings below)

Then to set the default search engine used in the address bar, change the value of the keyword. URL in Subject: config to one of the values in the search of the address bar with MozillaZine.

    1. type about: config in the location (in a new tab) toolbar
    2. If the nonsense of warning message appears uncheck the box before dismiss the dialog box message
    3. filter by keyword
    4. Right click on the key word . URL and choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
    5. filter on defaulturl
    6. Right-click on browser.search.defaulturl (if it exists)and again choose "Edit" and then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
    7. filter on ytff
    8. Right-click on yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src (if it exists) and again once choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice, so adventurous maybe see if 'reset' would delete and see if went into the session next (at least not for those keeping the extension).

Avoid problems: Several software installations contain additional baggage called crapware. The Yahoo toolbar is packed with Java photo

The icon to the left of the search box seems to have disappeared. What now?

You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.

If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.

Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.

Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Hello jonhon8, this looks like a problem that can be caused by adware on your pc. Please go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspect entries (toolbars, the things that you do not have intentionally, etc.). also, go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from here and do a full scan of your system with the security software you have in place or another tool like the free version of malwarebytes.

Remove a toolbar that has supported your Firefox or the homepage search

then install the reset search addon - he will return the most common customizations of these default firefox adware programs: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/searchreset/

  • Cannot change the Google search bar

In Safari, I go to Google.com and do a google search. So far so good.

Now, on the search results page, I try to edit the search in the Google search bar and nothing happens - the Google search bar is totally insensitive. To do another search, I use the address bar in Safari or reload google.com.

I have deleted history, deleted all the data of the Web site, disconnected plugins and extensions, deleted the cache via the menu Developer. I used 3 CleanMyMac to clear and reset everything.  I can't solve the problem.

Restart the computer and empty the trash.

    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.macpaw.CleanMyMac.volumeWatcher.plist

  • Cannot change the Google search criteria in Safari

I have a MB Pro OS X El Capitan 10.11.12 running version 2015.  My default search engine is Google.  After the recent update, whenever I'm looking for something in the Apple search bar in Safari, it will bring me to the page of Google results as usual, but if I want to change the search criteria in the search bar (not the Apple search bar), it won't let me.  It won't delete, add, or change the search criteria in the Google search bar in the Web page.

I tried Yahoo and Bing and both work very well.  I also tried Google on Firefox and it works fine too, there must be something with Safari.

Any suggestions?  Does anyone else have this problem?

Ugh! I just figured this out, the simplest thing too.

There is a dialog box on the google page saying something like "Download Google Chrome" and you can click on the x to close that.  Once you do this, the search bar can be changed again.

  • In the google search engine lack of research (and other) bar

A number of search engines have disappeared. I guess I can add those that I added in the past, but Google is missing and I don't know how to add.

Try to restore default search engines by selecting "Manage search engines" in the drop-down list beside the search on the address and then bar by clicking on "Restore Defaults", it will attempt to restore the default value of Google search engine to the list. You should now be able to choose Google as search engine, even if it can remove those that you added previously.

  • Can not find the google search bar to change the search on my home page engines

As I said above, I don't know why I can't find this combo on my MSN with Firefox homepage for the ability to change search engines. I had been doing network search more which I think is a third-party program probably from my old messenger more but I deleted it and there are still times when I search especially when it private so I thought that if I went to him and removed from the drop-down list, I would like to be rid of it. I can't find this low google drop list to this; However.

If you click on Delete on the shortcut menu, and then you remove the item from the toolbar and move the palette to customize.
You can open the Customize and drag the search bar on the Navigation toolbar, or even to the '3 - bar' list drop-down menu button Firefox.

    • Firefox '3-bar' menu button > customize
    • View > toolbars > customize
