I can't change the options so that I can store downloads in a new location

Hello. I'm deployed with the army in Romania. When I discovered that I was a deployment, I had a huge library of movies, television and music on an external hard drive. I synced with my home system and to remedy this, got a second hard drive and a computer with a tiny little baby size (25 GB) HDD. I never download anything on it, but it fills up all the same. Now, it happened if full that I can't save anything. My external 500 free concerts, so I went to the Mozilla's Options to change the destination folder. Sounds easy, right? It will take well. Not even for a second. I click on the "Browse" button beside where it says: save files to: (default setting is downloads). I then go to externally, which, by the way, works fine in the case. I get 'new' desired to my download folder, select the folder, then the backup of files to: says always "downloads".

I like Firefox and prefer what it's there. My wife loves Safari and Opera and Firefox, but I use these only when he is on his computer. As the healthiest of people's minds, I hate the Version Internet Explorer: all, but I am now at my wits end on this problem. I'm still using Firefox for most, but will use the detestable is only because I can't dl yet another browser (as I don't even have 10 KB of space!) If you have a solution please let me know. Download a patch is not an option, because even once, I can't download anything at all.

Could check you under the hood of this preference to see if it is "locked"? Here's what I mean:

(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter/return. Click on the button promising to be careful.

(2) in the search above the list box, type or paste the bottom and pause while the list is filtered

(3) is the preference browser.download.dir fat and 'game of the user' (in this case, try by double-clicking and editing directly) or in italics and "locked"?
