  • is it a good idea to run the JAVA virtual machine inside the hypervisor?

If I want to write a global user inside the hypervisor platform and you want to reuse some java lib, it's a good idea to install and run the JAVA virtual machine as part of global programs of the user inside the hypervisor? Thank you.

Maybe you listen to the wrong people?

The ESXi hypervisor is pretty well stripped of the linux console you are talking about, there is a thin busybox linux like environment, but you are strongly advised not to run anything in there.

Performer of applications within this console may have all kinds of side effects such as severely affect the performance of your computer virtual guests.

Why the hell would you want to run the JAVA virtual machine inside the hypervisor? What is the reason why you want to do this? If it's because you get a better return, then you're wrong, the console becomes just a little bit of resources available on your host computer.

If this is to go directly to the features that the hypervisor provides then the VMA we're talking is the answer.

So getting back to your question initial for EACH use case that I can think it's a very bad idea.

  • Put virtual machines inside the VMkernel port group

    Hello

Network for administrators of VMware SIAS layout:

"You can not put VMs within that group of port because it is made especially for a VMkernel port."

However, I use ESXi 5.5 and is able to put normal interface of VM inside the vmk port group. (I only created 1 vmk port group so all virtual machines in the same group with the vmkernel interface)

May I know if this is a new feature, or something is wrong?

    Thank you!

This may be possible with distributed switches not with standard switches.

  • Move the virtual machine to the workstation from 9 to 7 Workstation

    Hi all

I have created a virtual machine (PBX) on VMWare Workstation 9 and I need to move it to Workstation 7.1.  I tried to create an ovf file using ovftool, but I couldn't expand the FVO on the side 7.1.  Is there anything else I can do to move the machine to the course?

    Thanks for your time.

    Martin

"You can just copy the file to the virtual machine with all its files, this will keep even the machine virtual UUID and MAC address if you select 'I moved' we ' when you start the virtual machine after you have copied. However, before copy on the virtual machine, make sure that you go to compatibility mode (formerly hardware version) from the 9 VMware Workstation interface.

  • Esxi can be used for clustering of Virtual Machines?

I investigated the esxi features 4 creating and MS various based OS servers running a test environment.  After some success by using the virtual machine, I'm struggling now to build a cluster SQL because I can't find how to get the 2 nodes to see the same disk resource.  I've created 2xHDD in a separate folder in the data store and then can point the virtual machines on the discs but I can't use that one node at a time, it won't let me share the drive.  Back to my default position, "I do something wrong", I would really like to make this work if possible.

Someone already looked at it and what I have to buy plug-ins to operate?

  • You can edit vmx files on multiple virtual machines in a cluster to allow changes of setting delay start via RCLI or Toolkit VI?

You can edit vmx files on multiple virtual machines in a cluster to allow changes of setting delay start via RCLI or Toolkit VI? How?

SAs desire a lead time of 10 seconds through the virtual company composed of several VCs with multiple data centers and clusters.

Known: we can edit the .vmx file and add: bios.bootDelay = "10000" this adds stunted ms 10000 (10 seconds) when starting

Known: we may have to re-register or some other mechanism to apply the changes to the start on the VMS settings

Has anyone tried to make a change of large company to bootDelay on VMS? Any help?

The user has clicked on Vista, the little lock at the bottom of the START window.

Somehow, I blocked my user account (login) and I tried to help but can't find any info. How to UNLOCK the user account. Thank you

    Hello

Click the account icon that was locked and enter the password IF you know and otherwise:

Try Safe Mode - several times, press F8 that you start. The Admin account there is no default password
so unless someone has changed, you should have access there. Then Control Panel - accounts - users
Manage another account - use this down your user account (to the lowest level) APPLY/OK
then go back and reset it to the Admin APPLY/OK - this clearly allows corruption. Do this several times.
Then fix the password in your usual account. Do not forget to leave your account administrator if you
    wish.

If no joy Mode without failure:

Try this - use the hidden administrator account to lower your user account (to the lowest level) APPLY/OK
then go back and reset it to the Admin APPLY/OK - this clearly allows corruption. Do this several times.
Then fix the password in your usual account. Do not forget to leave your account administrator if you
    wish.

Make another Admin account with your password and use it to fix the others if necessary. (just for
repair, don't use regular account, not a safety valve) always keep a spare ADMIN account.

DO NOT LEAVE THE ENABLED LSA OR USE DAILY. If it corrupts you are toast!

  • I can storage vmotion virtual machine containing the database of vCenter?

I want to storage vmotion or the disk of the database and/or the OS disk in the virtual machine holding the vCenter, database (SQL)...

    Is - this recommended?

It is an environment of ESXi 4.1 with NetApp NFS storage.

    Thank you

  • Method to move the virtual machines in the data store temporary so I can rebuild pool recommended NFS

Our current data store is a mounting NFS on Nexenta (zfs), which has a pool, I need to rebuild (migration of raidz2 to mirror striped for performance). Initially, I was relying on the judgment of all virtual machines, create a new pool, copy (cp - r) of the Nexenta console all virtual machines to the new pool, recreating the pool mirror and then copy (cp - r) all the data back.

I have seen several discussions on this topic and seems like the simplest method would be to use the feature to "Migrate" so that the virtual machines are not fragmented. However in some of my pre-test when I copy a virtual machine between the basins of the Nexenta console it appears (from the data store Explorer) to initially create the vmdk provisioned and then once completed it copy looks too thin.

I hope that I can simply copy the Nexenta console, using the option "Migrate" in vCenter on each of my 40 MV looks like it would be * quite * tedious compared to the simple issuance of an order of 'cp - r' and leave all the copies of VMs (1.5 to) during the night and then adding them to each host.

Does anyone have experience with this? Or maybe a way to generate scripts easily (?) the option "migrate" in vCenter?

    Thank you all!

You can select multiple VMs in vCenter regularly using CTRL + click or shift + click and both migrate them as long as they have the same storage destination.  You can also schedule it as a task.    Add manually each computer virtual back in hand is not less painful than migrating individually, anyway.

  • Can not power on a suspended Virtual Machine

When I try to turn on the virtual machine, I get a screen that says:

    "Recommendations for [VMname] home".

    Right of priority recommendation
    * Place [VMname] host [ESX host name] power on Virtual Machine
    * Place [VMname] host [ESX host name] power on Virtual Machine

I select the host on which there are currently on and hit 'Turned on' in the lower right

Once the virtual machine attempted to power on it gives an error in the pane "" recent tasks "" "a file is not found.

Then I look in the events for the virtual machine and I see that this warning was generated after power on the operation and before the error "file not found":

Migration [VMname] of [ESXhostname] to [same ESXhostname] [DatacenterName]: back to the snapshot may generate errors (warnings) on the destination host.

The State of the virtual machine is "suspended".  I can try to hit again "Power On", but exactly the same thing happens.

I tried to remove the virtual machine from the inventory and time, and it's the same thing.

It is an environment 3.5 3.5 ESX and a Virtual Center Server 3.5 hosts.  The material of the virtual machine is version 7.

    Thank you for your ideas

    Doesn't sound very promising.

To find out what we can do I need more info. Please attach:

    • a list of files in the folder of the virtual machine (on the console, run ls-lisa in the virtual machine folder)
    • all the header files vmdk (small dish or delta in their names)
    • the vmsd file
    • the vmx file

Have you ever taken a peek at all the other files on the data store, where the files were accidentally moved?

  • Can't register OR unregister a virtual machine

    On the VI client.,.

I could do an operation to "Take inventory" on this VM., but a further 'add to inventory' gives an error, saying that it is already registered.

On the console host, a vmware-cmd - l lists this virtual machine.

    The conduct of a s - vmware-cmd opt-out , however, I get the error

VMControl error - 11: no such virtual machine

    Error running the command "Save".

Run/usr/bin/vmware-cmd h to see the usage information.

    VMControl error 0: success

Is there anyway I can retrieve this VM?

  • How can access us the Client on a virtual machine on the host ESXi VI?

Good afternoon, we are evaluating a virtualization solution, our company is small and we want only 3 servers to virtualize, and we want to use one of the virtual machines on the ESXi host, using the Client of VI, so we can use the keyboard and the screen of this server to access virtual machines. Our idea is to use this virtual machine as a workstation.

Is this possible? or we use VMware server?

    Kind regards

    Cristian Fernández

It is really not possible. Since the physical ESXi console, you will see only the menus and COS screens.

  • Question: Can store virtual machines on the same drive as ESXi?

I'll be downloading the trial soon and construction of a test at home server. I see that the minimum requirements are that 80 GB for ESXi but does that mean that ESXi needs 80 GB to be run in addition to virtual machines?

I want to just prepare for the way I need to build it. Will be need ESXi on it's own hard drive must be installed, and then the other hard drives for data storage?

Welcome to the community - the best practice is to seprate the storage that you House your virtual machines are the disk that contains the ESXi software - I don't think the 80 GB will be inlcude nominal VMFS datastore but I would invest in a disk drive inexpensive in order to give you more storage.

Another suggestion to get tested as painless as possible - to confirm that the hardware you are using is supported - http://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php
