  You can install and activate an unlimited number of times, but you can't have two simultaneous activations.

  That is to say, if you don't have turn off the 2 previous activations, you will see an activation count error message when you try to activate for a 3rd time.

  If you are unable to disable (help > deactivate) a previous activation, contact adobe for hourly pst support by clicking here and, when available, click on "still need help," https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html and ask a county of activation reset.

I did the uninstall on my old mac book, but if I try to use the serial number, there is a red cross on the right side tells me that it s works do not.   As long as you stay in the same general platform (PC vs Mac), you don't need to change the license.  You are allowed to have two facilities activated with your license, so you should be able to install on your new computer without having to worry about the other oldest at all (unless you never want to release the second activation for yet another machine).  As you said, you can download the trial version and use the serial number of your purchase to activate it to use fully.

  If you registered your software with Adobe, the serial number should be available through your Adobe account online.  If you don't enter it then you at least will understand why it is profitable to do so.

  CS5.5 activation should be done automatically when the software detects an internet connection or during installation. You can also try following the steps described in the following document to activate your license manually: Learn how to enable or disable Adobe apps..
