I can't restore my computer!

Whenever I try to restore, I get a message saying that the group policy has been disabled contact domain administrator"and it wont let me restore

Unless you have disabled these tools on purpose, chances are good that your system has a malware infection.  The malware knows what tools you use to try to find and delete, so that the malware disables you are more likely to consume and prevents them from running.
Sometimes, there are several things afflicted: System Restore, command prompt, Regedit, Task Manager... so just fix them all at once.  Everything which will help you to find the malware and remove it, the malware will try to break it somehow.
All malicious software tools you currently use or have used failed to protect your system.
The malware will be happy to fool into thinking you have to so something drastic to fix your system - how to use a System Restore Point, perform a repair, or even to reinstall XP from scratch.  This is what it would be like you, but these measures are not necessary.
You must solve the immediate problem of the tools does not, then scan your system for malware when you are finished.
No matter what kind of malware you've used analytical tools, they are unlikely to solve this problem because they cannot tell if the changes made to your system were on the end (you or an administrator has made them) or some malware, if analysis tools let these things alone (it's usually a good thing).
The Manager of difficult tasks, Command Prompt, the registry editor and the restoration of the system at a time (if they need fixing or not).  The process is the same for XP Home and XP Pro.
These commands from registry removes the registry entries that are stop opening programs.  Although the registry entries do not exist, these commands are safe to run.
Before making any changes to your registry, back up the registry with this free and popular tool:
Open Notepad to create a new text file:
Click Start, run and enter in the box:
notebook
Copy and paste the following lines in bold text in the new Notepad file.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableTaskMgr" = -.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DisableRegistryTools" = -.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]
"DisableCMD" = -.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem\\\]

[HKEY_USERS\.default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]

"DisableCAD" = DWORD: 00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore]
"DisableConfig" = -.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\SystemRestore]
"DisableSR" = -.
Save the new text file with the extension .reg on your desktop with a name, you can remember, something like:
enableit.reg
After you save the file, close Notepad.
Locate the file enableit.reg on your desktop and double-click it.
Alternatively, you can right-click on the enableit.reg file, choose open with... and select the registry editor.
Answer Yes to the following question: are you sure you want to add the information in the registry?
You should then see a message that information has been registered in the register.
Also, sometimes the registry editor is disabled, and if this is the case, you can fix this too, and then run the enableit.reg file (it is something different but easy to fix).
Depending on the circumstances, your tools can work right away, but in order to avoid the 'does rebooting your system?' question later, go ahead and reboot your system and test it.
Allow the tools in this way only solves the symptom of malware infection, but does not solve the real problem (the infection) so you're not quite done yet - your system might still be infected.
Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs can solve any problems.
Malwarebytes (MMFA): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
They can be uninstalled later if you wish.

  • Can I restore my computer to erase my default admin password?

    Well from what I read I can't reset my password.  I changed it just cause last week a member of the family got ahold of him by chance.  I have not connected because I changed it last.  I know what it is but he always tells me that it is the bad pswd.  I tried my old ones too, even tried different variations that it is incase I hit the wrong key.  I don't have a pswd reset disk and I don't have another admin ACCT.  Like I did today.  I don't have a cause of disk windows vista it is pre loaded on my computer when I bought it.

    The only other thing I can think to do so is to restore my computer to factory default settings.  I thought that the last time I had to do this when I got the win32 Trojan horse and could not clean the system I had to configure everything again.  Including the admin account and password.  Someone has other suggestions before I try this road?  I don't want to use software downloaded online if possible cause I have no interest to pay for access to my admin account again.  Thanks in advance for any help or suggestion.

    Sorry another thought I just had was to restore the computer to a date before last week, I changed my pswd.  Would this work?

    Well, I read on the site that you gave me the link.  Very much appreciated.  I'll let you know for sure.  I check with Best Buy Geek Squad who wouldn't tell me SQUAT of course...  That there is a command in the command prompt to raise the level of administrator.  That's what I searched, for the last time now.  I really don't want to restore the computer, but if I have to.  I don't have time to wait until I can get this album which did not belong to me anyway.  And my main fear is that if I use it I'm having probs with the registration key I have for mine.  I guess overall it is possible that the young girl to the geek team did not understand what I was asking.  But they are a bunch of useless people so useful!  I won't buy anything at best buy.  I understand they have geek team for some reason and earn money from good intentions and unconscious that cannot set their own machines.  But the round back in January so that my computer was still under manufacturer's warranty that I called cause them my nephew.  Don't ask me what they were spent, I wasn't there, but he stopped and would not start again.  After taking to run a comprehensive diagnosis on this subject that they don't tell me something if I wasn't going to pay.  So, after calling their toll-free number and this nice lady make a few suggestions I have restored my computer.  Anyway enough of that.  I will let you know thanks for posting, listening and responding that this gave me a migraine pain and eye of squinting at the small text characters.  Laughing out loud

  • How can I restore my computer to factory settings with using the computers original disc?

    Original title: ' ideas: insert an error code or give a brief description of what you're trying to accomplish or difficulty. " __ »

    I want to know how I can restore my computer settings to factory with using the original disk of computers or to create a recovery disk

    Here you are options to reinstall Vista:

    Vista Media recovery obtaining and/or using the Vista recovery on your computer Partition to factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.
    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.
    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):
    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu
  • How can I restore my computer encrypted bitlocker to an external hard drive for bitlocker encrypted after main disk failure?
    I backup that my bitlocker encrypted computer running vista ultimate on an attached USB harddrive external also encrypted by bitlocker.  I have the password both on a USB stick and written down.
    You can restore to normal full image (well close to normal) just using the USB Flash drive and a hard disk formatted, white (with a system partition at least as large as the partition which it replaced)- and, of course, the backup drive.  I see no reason why a bitlocker recovery will be different - after all, it's just not added encryption process (although the exact procedure may vary because you may need to supply a password to authenticate the restore function and decrypt the files as they are restored - that's why it doesn't happen on the CD).  Of course, this means that you must have done a full image backup using bitlocker (not a full backup or a file backup).
    Good luck and I hope this helps. Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.
