I can't sign in Windows Live Messenger.

I'm running on Windows Vista and cannot connect to Windows Live Messenger. I get the following error message - "the application failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. See application for more details event". I tried to uninstall and re - install Windows Live Essentials 2011, System Restore, disable AVG, but anything will do. Someone has the answer to my problem? Please help because this is getting frustrating. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.
