  Version 8 iMovie is not compatible with El Capitan, so you must upgrade to iMovie 10.1.2. To connect to the App Store and look under the purchased Tab. Find iMovie and Garage Band. If they are not there, it may be that the free updates are not available in iMovie 8. I'm not sure about this. They are free to version 9. You can also go to your account and make sure iMovie is not hidden.

Everyone I know has downloaded and updated successfully and I'm still sitting around trying to come up with something. This never happened with my iOS updates. Like how can I sort this? How can I update right now (and no one suggests not that I use a computer cause this isn't the case).

  Thank you for bringing your problem of update for Apple Support communities. From your post, I gathered that you tried to update your iPhone 6 to 10 IOS through iTunes, but you can not. I have an iPhone 6 as well and I was very happy to upgrade to iOS 10. I'll be happy to help you with this.

  iOS 10 requires iTunes version 12.5.1, which is available on Mac OS X versions 10.9.5 or later. You want to upgrade to El Capitan. Before the upgrade, it's always a good idea to save the Mac with Time Machine. The following items go on the means to backup and upgrade of Mac OS X.
