I don't need to defrag my PC

Computer slowed down, have run your program on the Virus and said I need to DeFrag.  I can't find any information on Vista on the subject.  I found it for XP

Where I would look

Vista defrag works automatically in the background.

Each week, I run chkdsk, disk cleanup and defrag but ' end defrag I was wondering should I defragment it even though it says "You don't need to defragment this volume" I remember that someone said to defragment your volume once a week or once a month. I'm so confused: / what should be my routine? defrag every week or once a month? Help please ~

Contrary to what said Divya R I would run a week Disk Defragmenter although you see "you don't need to defragment this volume." The report is based on a statistical analysis and figures produced in this way on a global scale can often be misleading. You can manipulate the numbers to present the result you want to see.

An obvious defect, is that the analysis is almost certainly done on all files. However, the files that you always have access to are only a small proportion of the whole. You want to be able to access the files that you are using the large archive of that rarely used files.

Supplied with Windows XP Disk Defragmenter is a utility written more than 10 years that you might want to try Defraggler which is freeware and a more flexible tool. I used it successfully for 2/3 years before I migrated from Windows XP to Windows 7.

  • m make a pop-up Unleashed PC saying I need to defragment files on my hard drive and if necessary to do through Mozilla-is it possible?

I'm a model of the computer and it's my first computer. I have a head injury which does not help that I do things backwards, etc. Technical things are difficult for me. I need to know if Mozilla can scan my computer to see if I need to defragment files on the hard disk that I don't know how if she needs to. I do not know how to copy and paste, can you help me?

    Copy / paste
A method that works in Firefox, on regular test files in Windows XP, and in fact, in many programs on different operating systems is of as follows

    1. SELECT
highlight the required text, usually for example holding the left button of the mouse down and dragging the mouse. Otherwise for example within these messages or on Web sites using HotKey Ctrl + A to select all the IE all the message, or all the page or address bar when the mouse pointer is.
    2. COPY
Use Ctrl + C (while the object/text is selected as above)
    3. DOUGH
Use Ctrl + V AFTER you move the mouse pointer on the target location
    • Keyboard shortcuts

CTRL + A is the abbreviation of

      1. Press the 'Ctrl' key or the command (often at the bottom left of the keyboard) and press and hold
      2. Press the 'A' (no need to use the shift key)

    DEFRAG
You should be able to defragment the drive of the computer from the Windows XP operating system. It is not something that Firefox will do for you.

A method in XP if I remember correctly, is to find the drive icon, and then right-click to get a Properties dialog. A tab or option is tools, which will have a defrag & /or analyse the option. It will also be possible to do so in the options in the control panel.

    Hello

What operating system is installed on your computer?

If you are using Windows 7, I suggest you follow these methods and check.
Method 1: Use of the disk clean up to free disk space.
    Delete files using disk cleanup
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

Method 2:  After performing a disk cleanup, I suggest you to run a Disk Defragmenter.
Fragmentation makes your hard drive to do extra work that can slow down your computer. Defragmenter reorganizes data fragmented for your drives and readers can work more efficiently.

My PC has XP Tablet installed.  I would like to re - install (it's so slow) but do not have the disks (PC was good for me to my business when I'm retired).  I have XP Home disks and another valid product key and not used.  I don't need the features of the Tablet, just a working pc.  Can I do this?

Yes, you can install your unused copy of Windows XP Home Edition, assuming that it is a "Full Version" and not a "Version upgrade".

  • in the msconfig file how I found on what kind of program does what, I want to disable that I don't need

Somehow I have disabled my firewall setting. Says my windows firewall / internet connection sharing service is not started. How can I find out what kind of program does what and what I can disable I need not, I think I have too many unnecessary things running slows down my old pc

First, do some cleaning and analysis.  Then determine what you do/don't need.  Then more cleaning.

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know using Google (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

Do a house cleaning and the dust of this hard drive:

You can free up disk space (will also help get rid of the things that you do not use) through the following steps:

Windows XP should take between 4.5 and 9 GB * with * an Office suite, editing Photo software, alternative Internet browser (s), various Internet plugins and a host of other things installed.

If you are comfortable with the stability of your system, you can delete the uninstall of patches which has installed Windows XP...

You can run disk - integrated into Windows XP - cleanup to erase everything except your last restore point and yet more 'free '... files cleaning

    How to use disk cleanup

You can disable hibernation if it is enabled and you do not...

When you Hibernate your computer, Windows saves the contents of the system memory in the hiberfil.sys file. As a result, the size of the hiberfil.sys file will always be equal to the amount of physical memory in your system. If you don't use the Hibernate feature and want to reclaim the space used by Windows for the hiberfil.sys file, perform the following steps:

-Start the Control Panel Power Options applet (go to start, settings, Control Panel, and then click Power Options).
-Select the Hibernate tab, uncheck "Activate the hibernation", and then click OK. Although you might think otherwise, selecting never under "Hibernate" option on the power management tab does not delete the hiberfil.sys file.
-Windows remove the "Hibernate" option on the power management tab and delete the hiberfil.sys file.

You can control the amount of space your system restore can use...

    1. Click Start, right click my computer and then click Properties.
    2. click on the System Restore tab.
    3. highlight one of your readers (or C: If you only) and click on the button "settings".
4 change the percentage of disk space you want to allow... I suggest moving the slider until you have about 1 GB (1024 MB or close to that...)
    5. click on OK. Then click OK again.

You can control the amount of space used may or may not temporary Internet files...

Empty the temporary Internet files and reduce the size, that it stores a size between 64 MB and 128 MB...

-Open a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
    -Select TOOLS - Internet Options.
-On the general tab in the section 'Temporary Internet files', follow these steps:
-Click on 'Delete the Cookies' (click OK)
-Click on "Settings" and change the "amount of disk space to use: ' something between 64 MB and 128 MB. (There may be many more now.)
    -Click OK.
-Click on 'Delete files', then select "Delete all offline content" (the box), and then click OK. (If you had a LOT, it can take 2 to 10 minutes or more).
-Once it's done, click OK, close Internet Explorer, open Internet Explorer.

You can use an application that scans your system for the log files and temporary files and use it to get rid of those who:

    CCleaner (free!)

    --> Click OK.

(If asked, select 'Run'). --> Click on NEXT--> select 'I agree' and click NEXT--> where he completed the installation, click "Finish"...

Now that your system is generally free of malicious software (assuming you have an AntiVirus application), you've cleaned the "additional applications" that could be running and picking up your precious memory and the processor, you have authorized out of valuable and makes disk space as there are no problems with the drive itself and your Windows Update components are updates and should work fine - it is only only one other thing youpouvez wish to make:

Get and install the hardware device last drivers for your system hardware/system manufacturers support and/or download web site.

I had the same problem and it has chewed all my disk space. I have a 64-bit Windows 10 - disk 250 gig. I deleted all these files except those with current date and released the 150 gig. Much better to delete these temporary files to risking a crash operating system running out of disk space.

The official position is that all purchases are final: after all, you can return virtually unused. If you contact the technical support and explain the situation that they peuvent agree to repay you as a single franchise (although normally happens if children have bought an app without permission, or someone made a mistake, rather than simply change your mind); Know that they are absolutely no obligation to do so.
