  I had the same problem, but with Firefox 4.0. My first thought was last updated to Firefox (after of course restarting FF), but it did not help and I had the same problem.

  Among others, I had an extension installed and enabled called tile tabs 4.10 I thought could easily create this problem. I went in my Add-ons Manager and disabled, restarted Firefox and tabs worked properly again. Unfortunately, the extension of the tile tabs is my favorite Firefox Add-on and I use it almost every day to manage my web tasks. I went to the page Add on for tile tabs and saw that there was a notice that version 4.10 did not work properly on Mac OS and install version 4.9 of the extension.   Drivers: you should know what you bought (in your machine) and what * you * want out of it.  If you want stability and things work properly - let alone the drivers.  If you want more performance check (and other games) in the drivers of motherboard chipset and video network from the manufacturers Web site... For more stability stick with the OEM website (HP, Dell, Lenovo - the assembler of the whole machine) and slightly more performance/push the limits (even if they want to work too - so still some stability) - access to websites of its components manufacturer.

  With regard to the programs: you can decide what you use and do not use.  If you are not sure, look it up (Google) or ask.
