I have 4.0 installed, downloaded 5.o several times but can't install it - the message is that I "don't have permission '; using a mac book pro OS 10.6.

Have failed several times in the update of firefox. I get the message: you want to replace the earlier version? I click Yes, and then get the message saying I don't have permission to install the most recent version. There had been no request a password to install this on my Mac, which is what I guess may be necessary for installation.
How can I achieve this?

Sometimes I was offered (for firefox) an opportunity to connect with their update, but this connection lasted 30 min., without success, so I closed the window.

If you have problems with the update or the permissions then more simple is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop DMG

  • Trash the present application Firefox to do a clean (re-) install
  • Install the new version you downloaded
