I have a product key for vista, but I have no idea what its for Vista version. How will I know?

HP Pavilion dv4 laptop. My HARD drive got fried, I replaced it. Downloaded and installed a copy of Vista. I thought I had the right version but, when I entered the product key to activate it, I learned that my product key was not for this version of Vista. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

you don't say where you have downloaded a copy of vista from

have you used a recovery HP or Microsoft Vista DVD disc?

You may not use any you find which disk to reinstall vista

Contact HP and ask them what version of vista comes with this model computer

If you used a microsoft dvd vista to reinstall vista your computer product key you entered during the installation must have installed the correct version of vista

Contact HP and ask them to send you in vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

  • Product key for Windows 7 - How to change?

    Hello

I had a problem running with my system telling me my build of Windows 7 is not valid. I figured out how to fix this month, (I have the original key from COA and product) but then when I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 a few weeks ago, installation froze, I had to go back to Windows 7 and now I'm having once more the problem.

There is no option for it under "Windows Activation" when I try to enter the correct product key. I ran the diagnostic tool (please help):

  • Portege R700 - product key for other versions of Windows 7?

    Hello

We (the company) has recently bought R700-PT311E supplied with Windows 7 Pro 32-bit (with a product key on bottom of laptop stated that Windows 7 Pro OA).
The usual continuation of start-up procedures on laptop, we have created a set of discs of recovery media to reassure.

My question is, can I run a new install of Windows 7 Pro 32 or 64-bit OEM version and use the product key on the underside of the laptop computer for activation?

If you want other information to assess the answer this question, I can provide it on request.

    Thank you
    Laure

    Hey Buddy,

As you can read in other threads here in the forum, the product key on the lower side of your laptop can t be used with other versions of Windows. It is only for Windows preinstalled Toshiba.

If you install Windows on a Microsoft disc, you must use the product key you got with the Windows disk.

  • I use my computer just for pleasure, not business. It came with Windows Vista. How will I know that I have? What is Windows 7, 8,9, thank you

What is the difference between Windows Vista and who is counted as the 7, 8, 9 or 10?

You seem to be confusing to the Windows operating systems (Vista, Win7, Windows XP, etc.) with Windows Internet Explorer.

If you have a Vista computer, you have Windows Internet Explorer 7 [AKA IE7], Windows Internet Explorer 8 [AKA IE8] or Windows Internet Explorer 9 [AKA IE9] installed.

Click Internet Explorer : help | Topic of [or use hotkey Alt + H + A].

    Hello

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

  • I try to upgrade my old vista laptop to win7, but don't remember the product key for my computer compaq laptop. How can I get this key?

    * Original title: get the product key

I try to upgrade my old vista laptop to win7, but don't remember the product key for my computer compaq laptop. How can I get this key?

    Hello

Your question is not very clear to understand.

If Vista is preinstalled on your laptop, this product key is NOT for Windows 7.

There is a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 years, but that offer expired for a long time.

How does the Windows 7 upgrade Option?

The Windows 7 upgrade Option is available through participating PC manufacturers on some PC and Microsoft on any purchase of packaged product Windows Vista. The Windows 7 upgrade Option applies to Windows Vista Home Premium, Business and Ultimate editions. Your Windows 7 update will be the comparable version: so you will get either Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional (upgrade to Windows Vista Business) or Windows 7 Ultimate, respectively. The Option of upgrade Windows 7 program runs from June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010. Some manufacturers may choose to shorten the time of upgrade Option.

Microsoft sells more than Windows 7, but it does NOT come for free.

    Try Amazon.com, etc.

    ___________________________________________________________

And if you ask to transfer the license of Windows 7 from a mobile to another laptop:

You tell us what type of license you have.

If the laptop came with the preinstalled Windows operating system (Dell, HP, Acer, etc.), this product key supplied with the laptop is preinstalled OEM license and is not transferable.

OEM license/product key (systems of operating pre-installed on Dell, HP, etc.) is related to the first machine it is installed on and dies when dies of this machine.

The above applies also to OEM system builders licenses.

License of operating system in detail, that you buy and install yourself, are allowed to be transferred to another machine.

And retail licenses also can be installed on a machine at one time.

I have no product key for my windows vista... I need help... pleaze!

If Windows Vista is already installed on your system and your system still works (even if only in safe mode) so you can be lucky.  There is a product called Belarc Advisor: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html which can be installed on your system and can retrieve the product key in the system files (only Vista does not provide this feature).

If you can not enter your system, it has already been formatted or something like that, there is very little that can be done.  There is no place that keeps a record of the product keys related to individuals (or computers) that can be checked and Microsoft will not give without proof of purchase product keys (which IS the key product - the sales receipt or even the disc itself is not enough).  You can't even borrow a disk from someone else because you need your product key to activate the program.  The only choice is to buy another product (you'll probably need a commercial full version as an upgrade will not work on a non-production system or one where you cannot install a product allowing to level).

You can TRY to get Microsoft to activate your system without a product key if you have the disk (there are codes on the disc, which mean it is valid or not), but I doubt it will work but may be worth a try.  To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain that you have lost your product key, but the disc and it's the same PC.  They can give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista (or they have very probably you will say you are out of luck and they can not help you).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck! Lorien - MCSA/MCSE/network + / A +.

It is easy sometimes to, for example, read B instead of 8 (or vice versa). Another consequence is also possible (e.g., Y and T, C and G). Try to imagine what letter it might be. It cannot hurt to keep trying until you get it right. Once you get it right I would say saving for future occasions when this may be necessary.
