  Take a look at two responses in the thread below the link to see if they allow the Windows launch security service:
  Could not start the Windows Security Center service.

  If these steps do not help, try to run a full scan using the Scanner from Microsoft which can be downloaded using the link below:

  I have just gone to hp - desktop.aol.com and got the same thing. There is nothing you can do to talk; It is a mistake to programming on the Web site. You may avoid visiting aol.com.

  That old machine, probably not, often you can uninstall the extras for print drivers or remove and then install and use custom to not install the tools.

With the whole level at about 01:00 controls, as Neil suggests, increase the Gain until the red LED on the channel starts flashing. And then put it down a bit so that it no longer lights except very occasionally. You should then see the green signal LED flashes but not the red. You should then have reasonable level in hearing.
