  Hello.

  We have a VMware infrastructure in which each person has several virtual machines, as well as several VLANs for their private use. To avoid the possibility of users mess with others "machines" or VLAN, I started today test the parameters of different role. During one of those tests, I think I came across a bug.

  I tried to assign read-only access to the group 'Users' to our virtual switch distributed so that people could use VLANs but not modify them. Because it is not possible to assign permissions to a virtual switch directly, what I was doing was creating a folder and assign permissions there. The problem is that, as soon as I set up the permissions for the 'Users' group, these permissions have been apparently applied to one, 'administrators' so, subsequently, I am unable to manage the VLAN more even from the administrator account.

  I would be very interested to know if there is a known bug, but more important still, if there is any way I can roll back to the previous configuration. I guess it would be possible to restore the previous configuration of editing the SQL database directly, but, unfortunately, I do not know what I would need to change, it

  OK, back to the top of your first database... and I'm just a pirate at heart, no vmware support, so I'm not responsible for what anyone, if anything goes wrong, but...

  On your SQL server server, open the VPX_ACCESS table and look for a line with ROLE_ID-2, which is READ only and the main of "users".   And then delete.

  That should fix it. You may need to restart the server vcms to read however.  If you have made other changes to directors, they will show in the same table and can be changed or repaired in the same way.

  FYI, ROLE_ID-1 is the administrator privilege.

  'Delete Cookies' sites causing problems:

  I want to configure a new server vCenter Server on new hardware and start from scratch instead of migrating from the old installation.

  Threre are currently only 5 ESXi hosts connected to this server vCenter Server, so it would not so much be working to the reconfiguration of the new facility.

  I wonder if there are other things that I have to take care of? How about iSCSI, network settings and so on?

  It is no big problem with a new server vCenter Server. Just follow the step to a new clean install.

  Existing hosts will be simple automatically deleted when you add to the existing VC they to the new cluster.

  Please keep in mind that the DNS entry are correct.

  If you have a HA, so I suggest to disable in the old cluster (it will be configured in a way to the new).

  If you have CVS you add hosts when are in maintenance mode.

  There is no way to "upgrade to ESX ESXi" without a complete reinstallation of the product.  If you really want instead of ESXi ESX, you should be able to just install ESX, ESXi over and tell him to keep all existing partitions intact VMFS.  You will lose all your settings (vSwitches, etc.), but you shouldn't lose all virtual machines.  In fact if the ESX host is SAN attached so you can just blow everything about ESXi installation and install ESX and reattach the VMFS LUNS to the new ESX host.  You shouldn't lose anything it. Make sure that the ESX host is not attached to the SAN when installing ESX (unplug the cable) than who has been known to cause problems.

  You will get no reduction in functionality if you stay with ESXi.  Once an appropriate license, ESX and ESXi work exactly the same.  The main differences lie in the way you manage servers with the absence of a Service Console on ESXi.  Given that VMware intends to get rid of the Service Console completely in future versions, it might be logical just to go in that direction now and stay with ESXi.

  did you create the repository Migration of your database to Oracle (Tools-> Migration-> repository management)?

  The SS2K5ALLPLATFORM package is usually created when you add the migration of the Oracle database repository and it contains the function StageCapture.

  So please make sure that you have created a repository of migration in an Oracle database and associate it with the first step of your migration.

  Hi all

  I couldn't use the vSphere Client to enter in vCenter (from my office).

  I could not Remote Desktop on the server vCenter resides on.

  I could go on the console of the server vCenter resides on.     I couldn't use vSphere Client from there either.

  I tried rebooting vCenter and got this error message:

  Unable to stop the VMware VirtualCenter Server Service on Local computer.

  Error 1053: The service did not respond initially or control in a timely manner.

  Any ideas where to look for more clues or ideas on what might be the case?

  Are the services on the host VMware starts does not automatically or the guests themselves? If these are the services on the host computer, which is the host operating system? Windows hosts must have all the auto-start services, but may have problems if the data store that contains the virtual machines is not accessible at the seed stage, when the VMware services start. In this case you may need to mess with service groups and orders to raise the datstore (e.g. If NAS) prior to VMware. A Linux host, it's probably because vmware scripts are not connected correctly on startup mechanism rc/init-sript or for some reason, he thinks that you need to run vmware - config.pl again once.

  If the guests, you have to get auto-start for the customers required as directed by the screenshot? If so, is there anything in the global or per-VM VMware connects to suggest what might be the problem? Make sure you have VMware tools installed in the guests.
