I have to update the unused applications in Microsoft?

I'm on an Air of Macbook 13 inch running El Capitan: Microsoft applications (Outlook, OneNote) push to update me, but I don't use them.  I have to update at the same time that I update the others that I use?  Is - simply lost hard drive space?  Thank you!

I went through the exercise of the removal of Microsoft Office for Mac 2011 when I upgraded from the Mavericks to El Capitan.  I followed this procedure from Microsoft:

https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/KB/2398768

I learned that this removal results in fact by removing thousands of files.

My suggestion is, therefore, since you have Microsoft applications you do not use, take the time to learn to remove them and hurt.
