  What operating system? You can download the driver for HP here supported operating systems.  Select your operating system and then download the driver and applicable updates.  Do not connect the pritner to PC up to be instructed by the installation program.

It is connected with a cable of parallal. I went of drivers and software, downloads, but downloading the software is not there. Does anyone have any idea were I can find the software download?

  You don't need special software.  Printer drivers are integrated into Vista.  Make sure that your Vista is updated (do Windows Update again and again until there is no more).  After that's done, plug your printer and it should recognize it.

  You can download the software and drivers for your HP.com E709n.

  Please followthis link to access the download page. Click on the '+' next to the driver, then click on the link for your version of Mac OS X. you have the following options to choose:

  -How to install your product in 10.7.x (Lion) - this is a document that shows you how to install 10.7

  -Full Feature software and driver for® 10.6 (Snow Leopard) - after clicking this link, there will be a download button.

  -Full Feature software and driver (Universal) for 10.4 and 10.5 - after you have clicked on this link, there will be a download button.

  Once you have downloaded the software, double-click on the .dmg (download it), and then in the window that opens, double-click the HP Installer.

  If you install USB, connect the cable before beginning installation.

  If wireless, connect the printer to the network (using the front panel) before installing - this is not necessary, it just makes go more smoothly. You can also configure the wireless installation using wireless USB installation.

  8.1 is a beta and has a lot OF known issues under development and lot of unknown problems that have not yet been discovered.  It should be downloaded only by those who are comfortable, dealing with the problems of a trial version of the software.

  Lost the brightness controls and volume: do you need a driver. Your computer manufacturer may not have built their hardware drivers for Windows 8.1 control again.  They are not forced to do it to the beta-test system, so "use at your own risk.

  "Unable to download Norton".  What is the error you get?  Is this a problem with the download from the Norton site, or the installation process it?

  "Adobe Flash does not work".  Yes it does, it is integrated and you don't need to install it.  Just go to any Web site that uses flash and it will take care of itself.

  "Toshiba and Microsoft Point fingers"  Toshiba is not necessary to press the test system for windows 8.1, and Microsoft provides no support for the test software.  That is why they you warned that the 8.1 has many known and unknown problems and warned against install unless you like to manipulate and test out these problems.

  Looks like you need back to Windows 8 and wait for the final version.
