I need WinZip to open the files copied to cd?

I copied some files on a dvd disc and cannot open it - what happened

Hello

If they are ZIP files you must right click on one and extract hard disk - you cannot develop
stick on the CD/DVD drive.

If you need a ZIP program try 7Zip - free.

Try to start your system from a "Live Linux" CD free.  This CD runs a version of Linux without installing anything on your hard drive.  To create the CD, you download a file ".iso" and feature "Burn Image" of your CD burner to create a bootable CD.  The advantage, that you win, is that Linux is a lot less strict with permissions, so you should be able to access your files and copy them to a USB device.  Some Linux Live CD are:
    Knoppix: <> http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/index-en.html >
    Ubuntu: <> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/try-ubuntu-before-you-install >
Ubuntu is actually an installation disc, so be very careful to follow the 'Try Me' instructions so that don't accidentally install you it on your hard drive.

An another boot CD, you might try is "Hiren".  It is in fact a version of "First environment" of Windows XP, so you could get access to some files that you would otherwise not not when starting on this disc.

  • Cannot open the document because the file is locked. Use the 'Properties' command in Windows Explorer to open the file.

I am a member of the Administrators group on my computer.  I have a folder full of files and other folders that I denied access for administrator users.  Not sure when it appeared that I had gone for the holidays, but now I am unable to open the files located in this folder.  I can delete, move, and rename at will, but can not open.  I tried all the resets of permissions I can think as well as read all knowledge base articles I can find but still not get these files to open.

I've recently updated MS Security Essentials, do not know if this has a any correlation.

At one point, I saw the certificate and it ranked as not approved.  How would this change?  Would this impact my ability to open files yet again let me move, delete and rename?  If so, how can I solve?

I restore to a restore point previous and not yet open - also received an error message telling me MS Security Essentials would not work properly.  So I undid the restore.

Thank you in advance for any input.  PatrixUSA

In fact, it starts to make a lot of sense today.  The files that you have problems with have been encrypted with EFS.  EFS is closely related to the NTFS file system.  As long as you move files encrypted in the same Volume, it is not a problem, because a move is an operation of directory and the directories themselves are not encrypted (only the files that are there).  Whenever you move an encrypted volume to another file, the file must be decrypted, transferred to the other volume, then re-encrypted to destination.  Thus, the destination volume must be a NTFS file system to keep encrypted files.  If the destination is not a NTFS volume, then the copy would result in a file that is not encrypted at the destination and you will be prompted as to whether or not to allow the operation.  In all cases, a copy of volume-volume requires decryption of the file and any operation that requires a decryption error of access for you - more your inability to open a file normally indicates that you no longer control the certificate to decrypt the file.

Backups are another matter.  If you are using Microsoft Backup utility (NTbackup), so he recognizes the encrypted file attribute and it backs up as - is without decoding.  Other 3rd third-party backup programs may not recognize the encrypted files and simply read and write to the backup media.  When this happens, the files are automatically decrypted to read (assuming the user certificates requires archiving) and writings of backup to a file unencrypted.  This would explain why you can retrieve an archive and it is not encrypted.  DVD and optical bands do not use NTFS, so a decryption of the original file is required to save in these environments.

The private part of your (needed for decryption of files) EFS encryption certificate itself is stored encrypted on your computer.  To decrypt, Windows uses your SecureID, password, and other things of which I'm unaware.  If your password is not reset in the normal way (i.e. by entering your current password and your new password) such as an administrator, then your certificate is not re-encrypted to your new password and your access lose him and with him, access to your EFS files.  Other forms of corruption can cause you to lose your certificate, but it seems that at some point you have lost access to your certificate and therefore cannot access files that have been encrypted under this certificate.

New files that you write in a directory that has been activated with EFS will notice that you have a valid certificate and then automatically generate a new certificate that will be used to encrypt files from right now.  That's why the new files that you add to this directory appear to work well.  The only real mystery what I can't explain is the reason why a system restore to a time where it wasn't a problem does not allow you to restore access.

If you want some heavy reading, try this:

"Encrypting file system in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003"

Personally, I'm not fan of the EFS because of problems like this.  I prefer the freewareTruecrypt which is just as safe, but I myself manage keys (in the form of password) instead of Windows.  Also, it hides the names of files and can be used safely on a connection in network and backup from windows volume is encrypted little matter how they are done.  I have not lost all data encrypted in more than a decade.

I've attached a scan to an email, but it says "could not open the file C:\users\My Windows\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows |" Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\TQDLSO1A\etc, etc.

I'm probably not explaining my problem fairly - well, I scanned something in - I used Nuance Paperport.  I have it attached to an email and sent to six people - including myself.  I always open the attached file to make sure that the computer has sent the right thing.  When I tried to open the attachment I got the message "cannot open the file - I have already sent you."  I think that Norton Security got rid of the file I need.  I think I will contact them.  I tried to contact Nuance - but alas, my warranty has expired, so no help there unless I want to pay for it.  If I can't have the problem solved through Norton, I will contact you again.  Thank you very much for taking the time to try to help me.  Have a great Thanksgiving action!

Your explanation was nice... that was my answer that failed.

I was hoping that you would simply copy the scan of your temporary
Internet files folder and paste it on your desktop. Then you might
evaluate what is the problem. I thought that trying to open
with such a long way email could be a problem. And also... it's possible
be a file association problem. And it could be a matter of file size.

I understand that you care why the attachment to the email

Make sure that all required files for installation aare available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007000D, SHOULD ALL BE ON THE DISCALREADY?

    Hi JRCLNSIN100,

    Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

We would like to get some more information from you to help solve your problem. You better, please answer the following questions.

    ·         What is the disk you use to reinstall?

    ·         Is this a recovery or reinstalling the disc you are using?

    ·         When exactly do you get this error message?

    ·         What is the edition of Windows Vista, you try to install?

    ·         How old is the drive that you are using?

    ·         How are you starting the installation process?

After researching the error 0x8007000D code is essentially due to file corruption and a problem with the drive itself.

First check if you have scratches or dust on the disc and clean the surface and try again.

To check if the disk is wrong, you will need to copy the contents of the DVD to the hard drive and try to install using that.

To perform a flat installation of Windows Vista, follow these steps.

Note The hard disk must have at least 3 GB of free space on the disk for the Windows Vista installation files. The hard disk must have at least 15 GB of additional disk space to install Windows Vista. For more information about system requirements for Windows Vista, see the Microsoft Web site at the following address:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/products/windowsvista/editions/SystemRequirements.mspx

    1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc.
    2. Start Windows Explorer.
    3. In Windows Explorer, click to select the drive for the Windows Vista installation disc.
    4. On the Edit menu, click select all.
    5. On the Edit menu, click copy.
    6. Click to select the hard disk you want to contain the flat installation files.
    7. On the file menu, point to new, click the folder, type Windows Vista Setupand then press ENTER.
    8. Double-click the Windows Vista Setup program, and then click Paste on the Edit menu.
    9. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions that appear.

See the link below for more information on flat installation.

How to perform a flat installation of Windows Vista

This problem can also occur if the firmware of the DVD drive is defective or obsolete.

If the step above does not resolve the question suggests that you install the latest drivers for the DVD player on the computer.

  • Open the files zipped,

When I try to open the files option button gives me will not, or cannot open files of programs. (wrong type of files)

    Hello

If you open files and the system is not configured to open this file type IE is not recognize/find the program associated with the file to open it and then it offers you the possibility to choose which program you want to open your file with. Initially, it will give you a list of the programs, but if you do not find the program you want to use, then click on the button 'Browse' in the window options and chose the program (usually with the extension ".exe").

For example if you want to open the compressed files, you need to open it with (application) programs like WinRar or WinZip. which is easily available on the internet.

How the Virtual Machine has been backed up and restored?  If Time Machine then...

It is a known fact that Time Machine is not 100% reliable backing up/restoring VMS in all circumstances/conditions.  Also back up Virtual Machines via Time Machine of disk/time intensive and wastes a lot of space for something that may be corrupted and worthless time to restore it.  At least I would exclude the Virtual Machines with virtual machines and Time Machine shutdown, not suspended and VMware Fusion closed and then manually copy the VMS to another location, preferably on a different physical hard drive.  So keep the user data stored in the virtual machine saved out of the Virtual Machine on a regular basis in order to always have a backup of the current user data.  If you need to restore a properly saved by VM is not as common at least you will have a virtual working Machine and data user to go forward with when you find out your Time Machine backup of the virtual machine fails.  Also take a look at: best practices for backup of virtual machine (programs and data) in VMware Fusion (1013628)

That said, if you don't have a copy of the file "Windows 7 - f004.vmdk" and then to try to retrieve the data from the user, you can try the following:

Download then unzip it (double-click on) the joint "Windows_7 - f004.vmdk.zip" file that contains the file "Windows 7 - f004.vmdk ' an empty logical binary measure that has been created on the metric of the existing drive and add to the Package of the Virtual Machine.  This should allow the VHD to be considered as a virtual hard drive, assuming that there is no damage to the extent of the binary left headers.  Take a look on: work with Virtual Machine packages

At this point, that the VHD has the scope necessary to show as a full disk, assuming that it is not corrupt the header in other binary extensions and can now attempt to access for the recovery of user data.

There are several ways to try to retrieve user data.  The easy, although not necessarily work properly according to what now lack us due to replace the missing binary extensions with a logical empty measure, is trying to start the VM normally.  If the virtual machine starts up on the desk and VMware Tools load properly you should be able to copy your data to user off on a USB or slip and fall on the side of Mac or if you have a configured VMware folder then copy the files through it.

Other methods involve starting the Virtual Machine with a Live OS ISO Image and copy files from a USB key or temporarily assemble the VHD to another Virtual Machine work.

With the right tools installed the virtual hard disk could also be mounted as another accessible Volume through Finder.

  • I downloaded the demo for the English version of Windows, but cannot open the file Captivate_8_LS21.7z I have 32-bit. It will work or should I re-download?

I downloaded Windows English version 1.45 GB trials.

It downloaded, but I can't open the file Captivate_8_LS21.7z.

I have 32-bit. Will this work?

    Hello

In order to download / install Captivate 8 32-bit, you must download the 2 files (.7z and .exe) at the same place / folder.

Once both completely downloaded files then you will need to run the .exe file and it will extract the .7z first and then to initialize the installation program. You don't have to open the .7z file.

Let me give you the download links to Captivate 8 32 bit: -.

Say the mention of the link below in any Internet Explorer open Web browser

    https://www.Adobe.com/cfusion/TDRC/index.cfm?product=Captivate

Sign in using your Adobe id and your password, then you will be redirected to download the Captivate 8 Web Page.

Do not click download. Kindly leave this window open as it is.

Now copy and paste the reference to the link below in the new window of the same Web browser in which you opened the link above.

    http://trials3.Adobe.com/AdobeProducts/CPTV/8/Win32/Captivate_8_LS21.7z

    Then Save the file.

Do the same for the mention of the link below and save the file .exe so.

    http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/CPTV/8/Win32/Captivate_8_LS21.exe

Make sure the two files (.7z and .exe) save/download in the same folder/location.

NOTE: Wait for the two files at the end of download and then run the .exe file.

Once you run the .exe, it will begin to extract the .7z file and provide Captivate 8 folder on your desktop that contains setup.exe. Run the setup.exe to install 8 Captivate.

    Kind regards

  • Error Msg: cannot open the file "Windows XP Professional - 000004.vmdk.

The hard drive on my iMac crashed while my virtual machine is running.  When I try to open the virtual machine 'suspended', I get the following error message: could not open the file "Windows XP Professional - 000004.vmdk"; The system cannot find the specified file.  This file is listed in the contents of the packaging of the XP machine, but it notes the date, the iMac has crashed, which is the last day of work of the virtual machine.  I have read through discussions and tried a few things from the knowledge base, but I can't go past the error msg for the virtual machine to run.  Any suggestions?

After selecting OK, I then received the second attached message, "Current Message.png", which reads... "your virtual machine has not returned because of an error.  If you believe that the error is correctable and you want to keep the suspended state, so you can correct the mistake, after that the virtual machine is turned off, select Preserve.  To ignore the waking state, select reject. »

I didn't do anything since getting this second message because I do not know which to choose.

In this case I'd throw away them.

If after following your excellent detailed instructions & explanation (thank you!), here is what happened...

As the machine has begun to resume in a suspended state, that asked me if I moved or copied and I selected, copied.

In cases like this (restore a Machine virtual sauvegardΘ) the correct answer to this question is "I moved it" even thought "I copied it" seams more logical, it is not the right answer but with the advent of the second error message, not caused by the answer to the first question, no answer would have mattered.

(if I can just get my prospects for work with this virtual machine files, your help would be invaluable!)

This Virtual Machine is always recoverable, however if you are only interested in the recovery of data from the user then after reading the following quit VMware Fusion and try to mount the virtual disk to the Virtual Machine using the information below.

Take a look at: VMware Fusion (menu bar) > help > Search > type VMDKMounter, and then select use VMDKMounter to mount a virtual drive as a Mac Volume

Notice, ignore the parts on "to add support for reading / writing to NTFS volumes, you need to install NTFS - 3G separately." as it is not necessary for recovering files within the VM using VMDKMounter, because you only need read access to retrieve data from the user.

After obtaining your user data disassemble the virtual hard disk on the desktop and then after that you want to retrieve the VM using methods from another just let know us and additional directions can be given.

    spirty,
This sounds like it could also be a permissions problem. I'm guessing that when you copy-n-Paste the form on the LINUX Server, you did what Windows Explorer. When they are copied to the server LINUX file will be created with the default privileges defined on the file. I recommend that you connect to the LINUX Server and check the permissions on the file. If your file permissions do not match the permissions of the text.fmb (or other files .fmb you have there) I suggest that you change the permissions so that they match.

    I hope this helps.
