I have the vista installation disc. Do I have to worry about losing existing files or programs?

I would remove ALL of my laptop which is running vista Sp2 and I have not a disk to install it from what can do?
Hello
Here are the different ways to reinstall Vista
Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it
they do it for a nominal cost of $
____________________________________________________________
also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought
you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer
Ask them of the exact key sequence
__________________________________________________________
or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc
Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer
they contain all versions of vista
This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Sums up the issue there. Sell a laptop so I need to remove Firefox that has my personal data, but I wonder if it will affect the other [sync] laptop that I will keep.
Yes, you should be fine. As long as you don't remove all the information in one of the Firefox whereas it is synchronized, the information will be kept in the rest of the devices synced.
You have 2 options. Completely remove the Firefox or unsync the device that you want to stop using.
I hope this can help,

I don't see that the clarification would help.
To retrieve the getting started welcome screen (in fact, many people want to know how to get the system to the way you have it, on the contrary), see--> http://windowsxp.mvps.org/noautologon.htm
Out of curiosity, use the command control userpasswords2 described on the link above and look at the list of users.
You should have:
- each account you created
- an account named Administrator
- an account named ASPNET; and
- an account named comments
You have these accounts? Specifically, you have an account named Administrator in more the one named Admin?
All Windows XP installations have a built-in account named Administrator. This account should normally be reserved for emergency cases and therefore, is hidden in the home in normal mode screen once you have created your own user account (I don't remember if you have created an account with computer administrator privileges user, or if the creation of a user account allows to hide 'Administrator'). Although it is possible to rename the built-in account, doing so is not easy and not a good idea IMO.

Transfer programs and files from vista to windows7 diff computers?
How can I transfer programs and files from my previous laptop running windows vista on my new one that works on windows 7? I have a 320 GB external hard drive... someone please help cause I have a lot of programs on my previous laptop which i have already paid and don't want to lose them or have to buy it again...
You can transfer data and settings using Windows Easy Transfer files
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/features/Windows-easy-transfer
Programs need to be reinstalled. If you can reinstall the programs without having to pay for them still depends on the license agreement. Some programs allow you to transfer to another computer if remove you it from the current computer. Some programs allow multiple installations. Some programs require buying a new copy.

Transfer programs and files from one computer to another
My old computer is an HP ME edition. I transferred programs and files to a HP with Vista Home Premium. Will the old programs and files, my computer run more slowly, and can I remove the old ME programs and files without interfearing with Vista OS? Thank you
First of all, you can not transfer programs from one computer to another - well, you can try, but it almost certainly won't work because the programs must be installled to make sure that ALL the files and registry entries are added correctly and created. Delete, nothing like you have transferred because it will be of no use and just take place.
As far that range from data, you can transfer data and should not affect the performance of your system (unless you have a LOT of files - and I mean a LOT). Move them to the appropriate folders in your user profile to make them easier to find (and backup).
Certainly, you can delete the old program files and data that you have transferred without causing any problem for Vista. Just be careful that you ONLY delete these files and do not delete Vista files accidentally while you do.
I hope this helps.
Good luck!

Can I upgrade to vista without deleting my xp programs and files?
upgrade
Can I upgrade to vista without deleting my xp programs and files? I don't want to lose my programs/files downloaded, but I don't want to argue with remove them and reinstall later
Yes, you can perform an upgrade "On the spot" and all your personal data and software applications will be available in Vista (provided that they are compatible Vista).
As always, you should create a backup Image in XP before you begin the upgrade, just in case. Also check that you still have your XP product key. If this isn't the case, then use one of the below product key finders.

Migration to Vista Home Premium programs and files for Windows 7 Ultimate
Hi guys, I just want to know if there's no possibilities
to migrate from installed programs and files in my Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate
--------------------------------
Also if I have Vista Home Premium should I switch to Windows 7 Home Premium too. I want to Windows 7 Ultimate!
Hello
You can upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium or ultimate; the choice is yours.
«Compare the editions of Windows 7»
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/compare
If you go from Vista 32 bit Home Premiun 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate, you can do an inplace upgrade.
The same goes for Vista 64 bit for Windows 7 64-bit
This will keep your programs and data intact.
But ALWAYS make a backup of data when you perform this type of work on your computer.
"How to do an Installation of upgrade Inplace of Vista to Windows 7"
http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/1818-upgrade-install-Windows-7-a.html
And before you buy Windows 7 read and check to see if your computer is able to use Windows 7 to its best advantage:
Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.
If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.
Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-US/Download/details.aspx?ID=20
Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:
"Windows 7 system requirements"
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/products/system-requirements
"Windows 7 Compatibility Center" for software and hardware:
http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx
Windows 7 upgrade paths:
http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd772579 (v = ws.10) .aspx
And the Microsoft Store where you can get an idea of the price of Windows 7:
http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/en_US/list/CategoryID.50726100
See you soon.
p.s. If you want from 32-bit to 64-bit, or 64 bit to 32 bit, upgrade facilities are not available.
You will need to do a clean install.

Copied pictures on a computer using Windows XP
Disc will not load on my laptop with Vista
Is there a program to load the disk or is it just copies of some images. So just copies, then the disc will not 'load' because there is no program to run. Insert the disc in the drive and click Start / computer / player Disck and right click it and select Explorer. You should be able to see the folders and files with your photos. You can or the disc appears to be blank or missing?
If the problem is that by clicking on the file does not open a program to display it, and then confirm that your Vista machine has software installed to read the file type of the images (they may require that you get a different software to view what they are).
If this isn't the problem, try to copy some files from the disc to your desktop computer and try to open them from there and see if that makes a difference. If so, then there is a problem with the drive to recognize the types of files, and then by selecting the appropriate program. You should maybe go to the web site of the manufacturer of the drive and download any driver, firmware and suitable for the machine AND your version of Vista. Install it and see if that makes a difference. Check out a few other discs and see if you have the same problem with them or if it's only this one disc.
What type of disc is (CD, CD - R, CD - RW, DVD,...)? Confirm that you can read stll the drive on the XP machine. Do you get the error on each machine and if so what do say EXACTLY?
I hope this helps. If not, tell me what happened with each step and try to answer all my questions.
Good luck!
