    I wonder what this thing.
It's an icon to the far right of the page next to the search toolbar. It has the shape of a circle with a number on the bottom right edge. The number changes depending on which tab I opened. A blank tab has no number. This page gives a 1. I have another open page which translates as a 4. The number shows white in a little orange box. The circle is described with a thick black line. What does this icon?

    Thank you.

Hi John, I'm guessing that this icon is created and updated by an extension. I do not know that, though. Maybe something that keeps track of the Tracker, like Lightbeam? Have you tried pointing your mouse over the icon to see if a ToolTip is displayed, or by clicking on it?

I don't use any anti-virus or anti-spyware, except Windows Defender.

I suspect that you see the effects of a hijackware infection. Since you have no applications installed virus protection (and, I suppose, you have not installed in Windows XP is), my recommendation is the following:

Backup of personal data (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then do a format and clean install of Windows XP.  (Because you upgraded from Windows XP to Win7, you can not do a clean install of Win7.) Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or a network otherwise and before using a USB key that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

  • Solution for Google Chrome (Helper) by using a lot of ram and cpu on mac os x

    Hi all

Some people have several tabs of google chrome, and it's using a lot of RAM. It also causes the fan go crazy sometimes. I looked for a solution for centuries, but no solution has allowed, until I stumbled upon the simple solution to use a google chrome extension that hibernates unused tabs. The problem has now completely disappeared.

There are a few different extensions that Hibernate unused tabs, but the only extension which has enough options setting to do what I want, is called "The Great Suspender".

You can set the time, after which the Hibernate (sleep) tab. The tab automatically resumes when it focuses on, (i.e., you don't need to then also click on a specific button). And the tabs of the extended day before will remain in hibernation after you restart the computer.

There are many other parameters that can be changed. (After you have made changes, don't forget to click the 'save changes' button.)

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks for the tip.

Blocker is enabled in IE9, also tried Google Chrome and still get the pop up windows.  Popus mount on most but not all websites regardless of the browser used.  Most are a square add in the lower left corner - some with a VCR command prompt.  I don't know how to get rid of them.  I was wondering that if I had a virus that is allowing them to appear - especially since I also noticed that when I click on the links on some Web sites, the link is instead directed to something more than one character of advertising and not where it was supposed to go.  I use MS Security Essentials and also run Malwarebytes periodically.  Aslso ran "Microsoft SafetyScanner" and no sign of a virus or malware.  Someone at - it ideas?

Just for fun, take a look at this website because it has some great information for the verification of the malware, etc.. You may need to do your scans in safe mode.

  • browsers (IE8, Firefox, Google Chrome and Opera) 32-bit and Vista 64-bit

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv2842se. I've had a little more than a year. IE 7 was originally installed with a version 32-bit and 64-bit. Not long after that I got it, the 32-bit version stops working. More specifically, as soon as I open the program it would be closed and completely unusable. I couldn't understand the question, so I installed Mozilla Firefox 32 bit and just used that. When the update of IE 8 came out, I downloaded and still had the same problem, so I continued to use Firefox.

With the help of Mozilla has worked for me until about two weeks ago, when Mozilla started to become more and more reliable and now completely unusable. Assuming that it was a specific problem of Mozilla, I downloaded the 32-bit versions of Chrome and Opera and finished with all versions of four 32-bit navigation programs are the same.

I realize that I can simply use the 64 bit version of IE8, as I did since I have no choice. However, there is a big problem with this. IE8 does not support Adobe Flash Player, which is required to run virtually all Web sites - including on the main site I use for my college classes. As the main reason that I bought this computer was for College, my computer as a whole is pretty useless to me without a functional browser that supports Adobe Flash Player.

By the statement of HP, I tried to disable all add-ons, reset all internet settings and uninstall then reinstall Adobe Flash Player. I even on my own I've tried a system restore and scanned for viruses, spyware and software malware. Nothing has worked.

Please, please, please if there is absolutely everything I can do to restore my browsers 32 bit in a usable state, please help me. I really do not have the money to buy a new computer, and 64-bit operating systems are almost now - standard, so there is no saying that if I bought a new computer for the same thing does not happen everywhere.

Thanks for any help you can provide! It is much appreciated!

    Hi guys,.

Paul - try to uninstall IE8 and run a startup repair.  If the Startup Repair cannot take care of the problem, try to do a repair on the System Installation.

    REPAIR INSTALLATION

You will need all your media software, Windows Vista disk and backup of your data to perform either installation.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/default.aspx/KB/918884

HOW TO PERFORM A REPAIR OR UPGRADE INSTALLATION INPLACE

If you have the Windows Vista DVD, you can try an Inplace (repair) upgrade on Vista - this will not work if all you have is a DVD of Windows recovery.

If you do not have the Windows Vista DVD and have only the recovery media, you know someone who has the exact same Version of Vista like you who has the Vista DVD?  If so, borrow their DVD but do "not" to use their product key, use your if requested a product key.  If you don't have or can't get a Vista DVD, the following steps will not work with the recovery media and you may be forced to do a clean install.

    Repair facility:

You can reinstall your copy of Vista while keeping your files, settings and programs by performing a repair install or an upgrade on the spot with the following steps: (Note: this does not always solve all the problems, especially if the corruption was caused by a 3rd party program or service, you may need to do a clean install) If this is not successful)

Please make sure that you back up all the important data before you continue. Please see: methods for backing up your files.

    2. on the page to install Windows, click install now.

    3. on the Get updated important for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You will need an Internet connection to get the installation updates.

    4. on the Type your product key for activation page, we strongly recommend that you type your 25-character product key in order to avoid problems during activation.

    5. on the, please read the license terms page, if you agree to the terms of the license, click on I accept the terms of the license.

    6. on the installation type you want? page, click upgrade to begin the upgrade. You can see a compatibility report.

    7 follow the instructions.

Note: If your installation disc doesn't include SP1, and you are updated to him, then you will need to uninstall it before you perform an upgrade installation. Start-> Control Panel-> programs-> see installed updates, select Service Pack for Microsoft Windows, and then click on uninstall.

Note: The following parameters will be reset by default:

    Its computer system

    Device drivers

    C:\$WINDOWS.~Q

These files can be eliminated with disk cleanup as "Files ignored by Windows upgrade".

Looks like you may have a virus or other malware. Get your updated antivirus program and boot into Safe Mode. Note that some viruses can hide from your normal antivirus program, so you really need to scan in Safe Mode. To enter in Safe Mode when you turn on first, press F8 on every seconds until you get the menu, and then select Safe Mode. Then run a complete system scan.

If that suits him fine. If this is not the case, use system restore to go back to an earlier date at the beginning of the problem. To run system restore, click Start-> programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> system restore. Click on the box that says show more restore points.

    -

You can check the corrupted system files. Open an administrator command prompt and run SFC if the above does not help. Click START, and then type CMD in the search box, right-click on CMD. EXE and click run as administrator. Then, from the command prompt type sfc/scannow.

    -

Finally if all else fails, you can look at the rather cryptic system event log. To do that click on start-> Control Panel-> administration-> event viewer tools. Once in Event Viewer system log-click and scroll entries looking for these "error" with indicator see if you can find guidance on where the problem may be.

When you get your system in good working condition, I invite you to back up your system up to an external hard drive and make it regular periodic updates.

When you try to download the file, at the bottom of the page download shows at all?
If so, you need to open another window and paste this address: chrome://extensions/
This brings you to your page of the extension for Google Chrome. You can also get there click on the menu options on the upper right area of your screen (bounded by three horizontal lines), selecting "Settings", then "Extensions".
After that you have two windows open, drag the file from download windows media plugin to a window in the other window "Extensions". The Extensions window should say "Drop to install. Then, drop the download folder, and download.
