  My advice would be the same. Certainly, it looks like a fan at the origin of the problem. Fans get older they intermittently can make noise. This would explain why you hear sometimes and not others.

  Furthermore, to see if your sound card, causing the noise (which I doubt), just turn off all your speakers when you hear the noise. If the sound stops immediately, it's actually a sound card related question.

  Even worse advice (which I also done before) - take a small piece of wood (for example, a 1/4-inch dowel rod) and insert slowly into the fan to keep it from turning.
