iCloud drive has a power symbol in it

The drive icon iCloud in the finder on my iMac has a electric (lightning) enter the symbol in this document, why?

This symbol?

I'm see it occasionally, if files on iCloud drive do not complete synchronization and are showing a progress bar.

I've not seen this icon explained in a any Apple document, but it seems to indicate than iCloud drive cannot synchronize.  Usually, it will simply help restart the Mac to launch the process of iCloud again.

  • Why finder hide Documents and office files in the home directory of the user by activating iCloud drive? What about the behavior of Time Machine backup or third-party applications?

I'm under MacOS Sierra. I am connected to my iCloud account. I activated the option Desktop and Documents, but I did NOT activate the option optimize Mac storage, because I wanted to make sure that all my files would be available locally, just in case, I would need to work without an internet connection.

-J' noticed there now a menu iCloud in my sidebar in the Finder, with links to Documents and desktop.

-J' also noticed that Documents is no longer presented in my favorites in my side bar of the Finder.

-This last suggests that files saved in 'Documents' are not saved more on my HD... but only in iCloud, which isn't what I want.

-Then, sailing in the Finder Macintosh HD/users / 'My account' /, I noticed that my Documents and desktop folders are more visible, as if these files are not saved in my home folder most. Which raises the question: where are My Documents and files on my HD, so they are still?

-Using a shell session in the terminal and again navigate to/Users / 'My account' /, I noticed that my Documents and desktop folders are still there. Which suggest that records and records of office reside actually still in my home folder under users, but Finder actually hide it and present them as being stored in iCloud only disc. It's very confusing.

    This raises several questions:

-In the first place, why Apple hide Documents and office files in the directory? Why not view these folders in iCloud and directory?

-Whence the iCloud folder or drive, reside actually on my hard drive?

-What time Machine. Is it still back up my document files and folders?

-What games third-party app mirroring backup of My Documents files and folders? They still work properly? (I use Livedrive backup and Sugarsync for files mirrored across several macs).

-How can I understand that Apple is doing with my folders and files? Some users might be happy with the iCloud drive concept, without worrying about how it works, but I don't take chances, and I want to keep a good understanding about the functioning of my system.

Could someone explain what is exactly happening?

With office and selected Documents, access to these files are now in the iCloud Drive, not in your home folder.

My guess would be that they do not appear in your file because it would be confusing for many people to make them in two places.

If you want in the Favorites, open iCloud Drive and drag them in the sidebar here.

All about iCloud drive has been saved on your Mac. With the exception of the office and the Documents, they are in ~/Library/Mobile Documents. However, if you choose optimized storage, older documents are removed from your Mac. I don't know what is "old".

~/Documents and ~/desktop have new metadata indicating probably Finder does not display them in a Finder window, only in iCloud drive. They are not hidden in one of the normal methods of unix.

I have not tested Time Machine or any other backup program. The folder still exist in your directory home, and they still have all the files, I don't think that changes anything.

I used an iMac for several years and now have my first iPhone.

Via iCloud, I can't have my iMac various applications such as Notes and reminders to appear on the new phone.

I need to activate iCloud Drive, something I did not on each device?

If so, do I activate iCloud drive on both?

    Thank you

iCloud drive has no relevance for Notes and reminders for your Mac or your phone.

  • What is the difference between "numbers - iCloud" and iCloud Drive/numbers

When I choose to open or move in a document, for example, numbers, the default path is "numbers - iCloud", but I can also choose iCloud drive who has a record numbers it contains. They seem to have the same files, but it's hard to be sure that I can not navigate on "" numbers - iCloud "as a normal file."

I guess "numbers - iCloud" are left compatibility by iCloud Drive has been here before. But what I really want to know is, is it fair to 2 different ways to get to the same place, is it important that I use?

I use numbers 2.3 as the removal of the sidebar in 3 numbers makes it unusable for me.

    Hello BrotherKz,

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support.

I see that you have questions about the differences between numbers to iCloud and for your Mac and how/where they record documents in the cloud. The following provides information on the numbers for iCloud:iWork for iCloud Support - numbers for iCloud

Of those who support the articles, it responds to what expect you when you upgrade your iCloud account to use iCloud drive:

    Use iWork with iCloud drive

  • iCloud drive not in the sidebar

    Greetings!

I have an iMac plus old (2007) and since I upgraded to El Capitan, a number of strange things have occurred, probably due to the age of my Mac.  One of these things is that my iCloud drive has disappeared from my sidebar.  There may be no correlation because it is recent and I upgraded to OS X a couple of months.  I first it disassembled in preferences and then mount it again.  No luck.  I disconnected iCloud and then reconnected.  Once again, no luck.  Anyone have any other ideas what I might try?

    Thank you

    -Chris

I first it disassembled in preferences and then mount it again.

Was it in the window of the system/iCloud preferences?  If it is then go to ➙ ➙ Sidebar Finder preferences and make sure that he has checked here:

  • Phone has been "redevelopment" iCloud drive for more than a day now

In parameters, iCloud Drive was churning "valorisation" for more than a day now. Did not help restart the phone. iPhone 6 s, iOS 10.0.2.

    Thank you!

What kind of "reboot", you have?  What was this - restart your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch - Apple Support?  If you did, and it did not work, try switching iCloud drive, power switch (settings > iCloud > iCloud drive).  If this does not work, try to connect to your iCloud account and reconnect.

  • How can I get icloud drive to stop the upgrade? It has been thus since the first upgrade, which was ios 8.je have now last version 9.3.1, and icloud drive still shows the upgrade. Its been almost 3 months. Can someone please help?

iCloud drive saying the upgrade for alomost 3 months now on my iPhone 4 s. is there a solution to solve this?

Try signing out of iCloud, perform a restart forced and then signing to iCloud.

Force restart: hold the home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously for about 15-20 seconds , until the Apple logo appears.

  • Sierra of MacOS - iCloud Drive Documents & Desktop keeps Getting Stuck download

    Hello

as stated in the header after activating the iCloud Drive to include Documents and desktop download stuck guard.

Since almost 2 weeks I started the task mean to ask iCloud to include above mentioned files. Total quantity was about 100 GB download. I have 1 TB of storage for iCloud. iCloud is always download and always get stuck after about 10 to 30 minutes to download. Then I have to restart after that it starts to load only from getting stuck again.

I was on the phone with Apple Care who had no idea of what might happen. They Said and I quote "we have no problem with iCloud download and your problem has not yet been recreated by others."

I find it very hard to believe that I can repro this problem on 3 different systems.

I have Cable speed of 400 Mbps downstream a 25mbit upstream. I have zero upstream of questions to dropbox or Spideroak at an astonishing speed. ICloud is the slowest I've ever known in my life but as I said after 14 days, it has yet to fill about 40 GB. This is ridiculous IMO.

If anyone has any ideas on what is once again wrong with iCloud, I would of course tips

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to post!

Try to go into System Preferences/iCloud and stop synchronization. Wait a few minutes, then recheck the timing.

Have you tried the signature to iCloud and then reconnect?

  • Recover deleted data from iCloud drive after downgrade accidentally?

A friend has lowered her iCloud drive counts these days of previous 200 GB for the free 5 GB level. Now, he is faced with disasters: Unfortunately he had kept all his records and documents, that he totally forgot to save back to its local Mac before decommissioning. Now they are not more accessible, all the files and documents seem to be lost forever!

Or is there a way to recover these files? Any idea and help would be very appreciated.

Without a backup elsewhere files have disappeared.

  • Backup of files in TimeMachine iCloud drive

I just above has migrated to a MacBook 12 '' Air of Macbook using Time Machine and noticed that my 2.4 GB of iCloud drive files are downloaded rather than migrating to the TimeMachine. This suggests that these files are not be saved locally, which is relative.

Is it true that Time Machine does not back up iCloud locally stored files?

Apparently, the files are backed up and stored in ~/library/mobile documents based on the following thread:

Does not save icloud to Time Machine when you create on a Mac

Indeed, I see my files in there, but I'm confused why these files have not been restored to the new machine and instead the entire library is to be re-uploaded. Fortunately, I had ~ 2 GB, but it would take hours for a larger library.

Does anyone know if it is possible to restore the Time Machine backup files and let the iCloud to update as needed? It would appear more sensible and more similar to other cloud solutions.

  • Photo very slow download on iCloud drive, Mac Air 2009, El Capitan

I hope someone can help... I installed El Capitan on my Mac Air since end 2009 and since improved Air and iPads to iCloud by car. Are my approximately 9000 pictures on Mac Air download at a speed of max 50 per hour. Also I don't see any files or folders in the Finder/iCloud drive. Something clearly happened because my network has significantly slowed down. Is this normal?

    Thanks in advance!

You synchronize these photos with your iCloud photo library?

If so, you won't see them in your iCloud drive. The library and iCloud drive are 2 separate areas.

Don't you have optimize activated? It takes much more time for a large library like yours.

Your download speed depends on your wifi. It is generally not as fast for most users as the download speed.

iCloud drive holds shadow copies of all the files on your Mac so you can always access your documents, even in offline mode. It is supposed to keep your documents synced to your devices, not as only an off-site storage to save space on the mac.

You can't stop the shadow - on iCloud drive all files will be downloaded to your Mac, if you enable iCloud drive.

If you want to iCloud drive as an external storage without the shadow, don't turn on your Mac, but only use the web interface at www.iCloud.com to download and view the documents there. But then you will not be able to see iCloud drive as a drive in the Finder.

  • ICloud drive is slow for anyone else?

I had this problem in the last days. It all started during the July 4th weekend. I tried to add a 34 KB PDF file reader iCloud on my end 2007 27 "iMac running the most recent version of Yosemite. When I did, he began the process of synchronizing the file to iCloud (with the symbol of the cloud after the name of the file), but he never knew. All I saw was a progress bar gray who moved for hours. So, I out of the iCloud folder and tried to download it directly through iCloud.com. This time, I saw the file appear on my Finder but with the brand "always download" (a cloud with an arrow pointing down) and once more a bar of growth that does not seem to move for hours.

Long story short, after trying all the usual steps to solve the problems with iCloud, (turn on iCloud drive in the preferences system/turn off; exiting/entering my account iCloud; as well as some yet more "BOLD" steps such as the abolition of the CloudDocs folder in my library system, quit the 'cloudd' and 'bird' processes using activity monitor) (, then rebooting my iMac), I have now several files I had stored in iCloud drive being perpetually stuck "Download". Curiously, all these files are the app third party in their library respective App except for a RTF file created using TextEdit. The files that I saved in TextEdit on iCloud synced within a reasonable (although slow to KB of size of plain text files).

Moreover, I also reset my modem wifi and cable, but without any change in the result.

My Console is showing many connection errors, delays in waiting, and other stuff that I don't understand not everything revolving around iCloud associated services or processes. So, I think that something is happening with iCloud himself. I read a few threads on other sites that there is a possibility that this could be a problem with sandboxing, but I have no confidence the fix that was suggested, so I hope that someone here will have some clues or tips. If it's a matter of Sandboxing, this could explain why the files are not downloaded/uploaded are third-party applications.

Yes, a couple other posts commented on files do not download or upload to iCloud by car since nearly 30 June - 4 July.

  • ICloud drive actually backing up files?

-Very well, so I really want to back up all my photos I have on my devices... The way I understand it, if I use iCloud library is really not save files? If I remove a photo from one of the devices, it is deleted automatically iCloud photo library as well, am I right?

If this is the case, then how is iCloud is drive different? Is it automatically upload/delete files from my devices, or what I have to do it manually? If I have to do it manually which should mean that they are in fact return top, right?

My thought is - what happens if my Mac crashes or is stolen or something and all my photos disappear from this device? How can I keep the stored and stored in iCloud. What I'm looking for something exactly like Onedrive - is, but since I am already an active user of Apple, I'd much rather prefer to keep my business within Apple...

I hope that I have explained myself that well enough and someone can help me understand

    -Lea

You are right, if iCloud library is activated on a mobile device, then the pictures are not saved when the device is saved. And Yes when iCloud library is enabled, removal of a photo on a device deletes all.

iCloud is just a part of iCloud and has nothing to do with the photos.

It would be your best strategy for dealing with your photos to back up your mac with Time Machine, which is exactly what I'm doing.

  • Should I use iCloud drive to share documents with a member of the family?

My wife has retired and is buying an iPad Pro to replace his work computer.  It is not an advanced user.

If she wants to keep a document, can send it to my iCloud for storing drive?  Works the family shares in iCloud drive, as in iCloud?

I am less interested in sharing music etc to save some documents.

    Thank you.

Well, it depends on how the device is connected. It has its own ID-Apple/iCloud? I would recommend that it should have its own, as sharing an iCloud or Apple ID may cause Messages, FaceTime, Notes, virtually everything to share between the two phones. Most people find it quite annoying.

If it is signed with the ID Apple/iCloud then she would need to set up and use his own iCloud drive - it is not a part of the family sharing.

If it is signed with your identifying Apple/iCloud, she can use your iCloud drive.

You can also send your request of family sharing support iCloud drive from Apple here, if you wish: Apple - Feedback

    See you soon,.
