  Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors.   If a device is not compatible with Windows 8, you can try to remove the device and then proceed with the installation. You will not be able to install the unit on the computer after the installation of Windows 8.

  I suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the device for any update.
