If I update my motherboard I need to do a fresh install of windows

I do not remember what was told, but I want to update my motherboard. I think I remember from somewhere because if you upgrade or change your motherboard, you'll have to do a fresh install of your operating system. In my case, it's Windows Vista Ultimate OEM. Is someone can he tell me what are my options?

Hello

you have 2 problems

1. you usually reinstall vista after upgrading a motherboard as the operating system installed on the hard drive already has old drivers from the motherboard installed. so does not start

2. you have an OEM license.

An OEM license is linked to the original equipment installed on

When the computer dies, the OEM license dies with him

Contact the manufacturer of the computer and see if they are willing to do what you want

Or do all what I have to do after doing a clean install, then back to factory settings?  Could I use my other computers of WIN7 installation disc to upgrde it?

    Hello

Your Windows 7 disc question topic:

What is an OEM of Windows 7 license, or a license to retail that you have bought yourself?

If preinstalled license of Windows 7 OEM or system integrator, it is related that it is installed on the original computer.

If it is a retail license, you can transfer it to another computer.

BUT a retail sales license can be installed on a single computer at any time.

With the help of different methods to reinstall the hard drive for a clean reinstall Vista formats.

Here are the different methods to reinstall Vista.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Glad you got it going... If I had to guess, it was very likely updates .net 3.5, which has caused the problem... or maybe, Net 4.5...

They require a process runs to complete their installation that seems to start running in the middle of updates remaining to try to install...

  • Satellite C660 - need help with the fresh install of Win7

After a problem with my 660 SatC, I decided to Nuke the hard drive and do a fresh install using a W7 32-bit disk created from the web (there is a free library of Windows 7 iso images (sorry I forgot name).)

So I got the drive and the drive that has the drive, W7 is now saying that it can't find the device driver for the DVD drive it has been operating just to show him the first screen of W7.

Looking for drivers for the DVD player but no joy on the web.

    Can someone help me please?

Maybe stupid question on the start, but why you do not install original Win7 64-bit? I assume that you got your machine with preinstalled operating system.

    > If I had the drive and the drive that has the drive, W7 is now saying that it can't find the device driver for the DVD drive it has been operating just to show him the first screen of W7.
Sorry, but after reading this sentence I m completely confused and do not know how to understand it. If you have created the bootable installation disk, I hope you were able to successfully install Win7. After the first boot, you continue to install all the necessary drivers, the tools and the utilities that you can find on the download page of Toshiba - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Optical disc drive using Microsoft driver and there is no some special drivers for this device. It must be recognized automatically by the operating system preinstalled.

If my ad was not helpful to you, please be more specific with the description of your problem.

  • T61p help desperately need! Can't get to reformat and fresh install Win XP

    Hi all

I have a Lenovo T61p (6459) Quadro FX 570 m mobile. It came with an installation of Windows XP Professional 32-bit OEM. I try to format the drive and am not having any success. I have not the slightest idea and if all I am doing wrong. Can anyone help?

I lifted the online instructions and followed them to the letter. I have backed up my files, discovered and fill my XP product key and serial numbers, as well as downloaded all the drivers for my Lenovo support page for my model. I borrowed a CD to install Win XP update of a parent and will enter my product key code, and the series rather than his. I loaded the installation cd in my CD-ROM drive and restarted my computer. I booted from the cd that I'm supposed to and WAITED for necessary files loaded from the disc taking me to a blue windows screen send me 3 options:

    1 install win xp

    2 repair

    3 output

I chose to install by pressing 'Enter' following the instructions but then took to a screen that informed me that the hard drive was not present and that she needed to be plugged in / installed for windows to have a place to install it. This is absurd! My machine works fine for the normal start up. My hard drive is definitely there! Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Or who do I talk to to get this resolved. Thanks for any help. God bless you.

    Welcome to the forum!

Start the machine, press F1 at startup to enter the BIOS. Go to Configuration > SATA mode and change to AHCI to "Compatibility", press F10 to save and exit.

You should be good to go.

You are not the first to ask questions about how to upgrade a clean Windows XP - not even installation in the last week. In fact, I will just cut and paste my answer here... here:

Get SP2 (manually) and save it to your desktop. (There's a link here.) [You are a COMPUTER professional for now.]

    Install it.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Then restart at least a couple of times for a few minutes between each restart.

Download at least Internet Explorer 7 (if it is not Internet Explorer 8).

    Install it.

    Reset.

Now, try to get the updates through the normal web page (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/) and see how much more you can get (100 +) and keep checking until you no longer have.

Back - let everyone know if it worked for you.

  • HP PROBOOK 450 GB: Can I update my motherboard with a graphics card

    Hello

I have a hp probook 450 GB (i3, 8 GB ram, 1 TB), and I wonder if I cand update my motherboard with a graphics card. Is this possible? My motherboard is 1949 Hewlett - Packard (U3E1).

    Thank you!

The 450 G0 has either Intel HD 4000 or it can have switchable discrete Radeon 8750 M, but if you have the old, you will need to replace the whole motherboard to get one with Radeon graphics cards. Which may be prohibitive, but is theoretically possible. Can you replace your self? Parts will run a few hundred to a few hundred working (in dollars). You need the motherboard and a new radiator/cooling fan. Processor, wireless card memory could be reversed. Also your windows must be reactivated and eventually you will have to buy a new Windows license (which does not 100% the case) but Microsoft generally believes that it is a different computer if you swap out the motherboard.

If still interested we can guide you through the details.

    Hello

I recently updated my motherboard, processor and RAM, but I kept my original 500 GB hard drive, and equipped with a hard drive 2 TB extra, after the upgrade, I downloaded windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. After the upgrade I plugged my external hard drive (which has all my stuff important on it, that is to say the photo, video etc.) to realize that I had he encrypted with bitlocker on my old sysem. It allows Me to enter my password, it looks for a USB flash drive key, I did not. My question is:

Can I replace my old system with the old motherboard, hard drive and the original RAM to remove the external hard drive for bitlocker?

I still have the file windows.old on my hard drive, I have to restore it and remove the most recent version of windows 7 off the drive. I do this before I rebuild my old PC? I'm stuck here and would not lose all my photos (the wife would kill me!) I would appreciate your help.

    Hello

Reassembly of the old computer won't help. You will always need the key to open the Bitlocker.
