• iMac early 2008 fails to boot completely

  Hi all -

  I have an early 2008 iMac 3.06 GHz 24 "model that starts more completely. The system gets to the Apple screen and the progress bar comes in at halfway and there it is. I had replaced the original HARD with a SDD drive and had not had any problems so far. The system has 6 GB of RAM.

  I searched around here and I've tried all of the following conditions:

  -Reset the SMC

  -Reset NVRAM

  -AHT Ran, fast mode and the full analysis - no problems found. After that, the system does boot to the desktop, but after I stop, I was unable to get another successful reboot.

  -Swapped the SDS for the original HARD drive (which was in good working order when removed) and the system stopped booting in the same place on the progress bar

  -Replacement battery PRAM

  -Ran new AHT.

  Now, I remember the computer to reboot once before what is going on started and seeing that the screen was a little fuzzy. It's the me first to suspect the video card - but don't would not AHT reported that? I don't know if the problem I have is a card or a video card. This computer has been completely reliable since I bought it new in 2008 and I was very happy with it. I want to keep around for a little longer if possible.

  Is there something I'm missing here? I have no problem opening the iMac and to make the appropriate surgery according to the needs, but I want to be sure I'm correct operation.

  Install or reinstall OS X from scratch

  Make sure that you have backed up your files because the following procedure will remove all of the hard drive.

  HD recovery start:

  Restart the computer and after the buzzer, press on and hold down the COMMAND and R until the menu screen appears.

  Erase the drive:

  1. select in the main menu disk utility and click on the continue button.

  2. once the charges of THE select your boot volume (usually Macintosh HD) in the

  list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of THE.

  3. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). If necessary, click

  This should install the version of Mac OS X that you had installed it.

  I tried to upgrade my iMac in early 2008 by adding a 2nd memory card in slot 2 with a correct map of OWC. also badly hit by installing Apple's original card for slot 2 & OWC in slot 1. When a card is installed in slot 2 the hard drive just repeatedly whirs & stops in quick succession. I tried the compressed air for the eruption of dust. Either card works well in location 1.

  Unless you have downloaded 10.10 previously, it is no longer available, so only download would be 10.11 El Capitan.

  All latest versions of operating system require more RAM, faster processors, etc. They also use RAM differently as in: all this (unused RAM is wasted RAM). Thus, depending on what you have installed and your workflow, there are slowdowns.

  First and foremost, make sure you have a good backup - a bootable clone would make things returning more easy. In this way, you can quickly start to this clone, erase your disc and clone the old system back. Alternatively, I'd say either create a second partition on your internal hard drive or use an external drive and, after cloning your current system on it (if you have all your files, etc.), install the 10.11 on it. Test drive for some time see if you like it or not. You can always remove it if you don't like it.

• How do I reinstall the AHT on my early 2008 iMac

  My 8, 1 imac, early 2008, now has installed, after Leopard and Snow Lepoard Yosemite. AHT will not load with the D option or the nline version, years that I don't have the diskettes original so I don't seem to be able to perform the test. Y at - it somewhere I can download and install AHT of?

  I guess my 2nd Q's that matter? Are there ways better/easier to test the card mother etc?

  You can not download the AHT Apple or the internet.

  To run the AHT you disc #2 originally supplied with your iMac.

  Your best bet is to contact Apple Support and order a replacement set CD.

  The computer iMac (early 2008) has two SDRAM slots in the bottom of the computer and comes with at least 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM installed into a slot. The maximum amount of RAM you can install in the computer is 4 GB (a 2 GB SO-DIMM in each slot).

  I have my old iMac bought in early 2008. It works very well and did an amazing job. However as time progressed so also the OS X has progressed on my iMac too. Snow Leopard, I moved to El captain.

  The maximum memory I have is 4 GB of RAM (2 GB * 2 LOCATIONS). But recently, I discovered that there are a lot of buffering going on and I'm sure it's due to lack of RAM. A lot of paging happens I think between the RAM and the HARD drive.

  My question to the readers of this message is:

  Can I go head and buy a Stick 4 GB RAM (DDR2 - 800 Mhz - 4 GB of RAM). What might be the implications of material. Although the chip itself is very expensive, I fear not buy if this will help my iMac to better respond to requests.

  Comments appreciated by all those who have done this kind of upgrade.

  Your iMac can actually use up to 6 GB of ram. Buy ram from a friendly seller Mac as OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/

I have a firewire connector HDMI I want to use to connect to a monitor to use as a secondary monitor to the iMac as a monitor for the PS3.   As an amateur, I think you should seriously consider any movement until the 2009 model or later. Same factor form except the processor and RAM are on a shelf at the bottom of the Cabinet.

  They are faster because of some of the architecture changes, accept more RAM and still have the PCIe slots that allow you to add upgrades.

  I suggest that stick you with Snow Leopard because the Lion is a bit a dog. If you really need to upgrade over Snow Leopard, then you need a new computer.
