If all the settings are correct, turn off e-mail scanning in your antivirus software. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

  • Unable to send emails, SMPT can not connect to the server

I use the latest version of the EL CAPTAIN 10.11.04, just updated software, and I can not send my emails is to show only SMTP error can not connect to the server.

I can receive emails, but cannot send emails. I deleted the account and reinstalled it once again changed the SMTP Port 25, 465, 993 trying all of them.

Please advice, or guide me what I am doing wrong, or what I can do to fix this error.

Please take each of the following steps that you have already tried, tests after each of them. Back up all data before making any changes.

    Step 1

In the Mail menu bar, select

    ▹ Connection Doctor window

In the window that opens, double-click on behalf of SMTP (outgoing mail) problem. it. another window opens, displaying the list of all outgoing mail accounts. Choose the one that you clicked.

Select the Advanced tab in the settings for the account and check the box marked

Automatically detect and maintain the account settings

If it is not already done.

If there is more than one account of the problem, repeat. Close the window and save the changes.

    Step 2

Open again the list of SMTP servers. Note the problem server settings, then click the sign button less to delete and confirm. Click on the sign more and recreate the account with the same settings.

If you use Gmail, remove the account completely in the preferences panel accounts Internet and re-create it. The option "detect and maintain" must be selected in advanced settings for the incoming mail account.

Messages will be again synchronized with the server automatically. Which can last for hours if the mailboxes are very large.

    Step 3

Quit Mail runs. Launch the Keychain Access app and enter the name of the server of mail out in the search box. For example, if you use Gmail, enter

    SMTP.gmail.com

Make a note of the password, and then delete the keychain items. The next time Mail connects to the server, it will prompt for the password. Enter and save the password in the keychain.

    Step 4

If you use Gmail, sign in to your account on the site, and in the account settings, click the "Sign-in and security." There should be an option somewhere on the page to "allow applications that are less safe." Enable this option and save the change. Note: I don't use Gmail and I have not tested this solution myself. If it does not, either make you on Google user forums for help, stop trying to use Gmail with the e-mail, or just stop using Gmail altogether (strongly recommended).

The mail server can use a form low, obsolete encryption for secure communications with customers. Recent versions of Mac OS X has changed the behavior of Mail and other applications so that they no longer tolerate low security.

Log on to the e-mail account on the website and see if there is a security setting, you can change. I can't be more specific. Refer to the documentation of the service provider.

If there is no adjustment, convince the upgrade of server securityserver administrator. He or she must do it anyway. Low security affects all customers, not only Mac users.

Otherwise, you have all the right options to continue to use Mail with the service. You can disable SSL in the Advanced account settings, but that is very dangerous and may not work at all.

You might be able to get a more flexible mail client, such as "Thunderbird", to accept the low security, or perhaps you can access the account via webmail.

Ideally, you should switch to a provider of postal services better. You would not have this problem with a well-run service. The risk of weak SSL are known for a long time, and to competent server administrators have already taken the simple steps are sufficient to avoid these risks.

I have two email addy on Outlook Express 6.0 that have worked well for years.  Now, for the last 3 weeks, I can only receive mail among the addy.  I can not send and get the error:

"The connection to the server failed. "Account: 'mail.bellspalsy.ws', server: 'mail.bellspalsy.ws', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, secure (SSL): no, Socket error: 10060, error number: 0x800CCC0E".

I checked with my ISP, Verizon.  They tried a few things and said Outlook contact.  I also checked with the email provider of the email addy that does not work.  They said that there is nothing wrong at their end.

    Any suggestions?

    Hello

As far as I KNOW, Verizon is blocking SMTP email from Outlook (or any other mail program), unless you use a Verizon email via their SMTP server.

Your server is mail.bellspalsy.ws, since Verizon block port 25 (smtp), that the post does not turn off.

Option 1. Use Verizon email address and their server.

Option 2. Whether mail.bellspalsy.ws can accept other ports and change it in Outlook.

Option 3. Use a Webmail via the browser.

It's better, thank you. This message is not from the BT Server; It comes from your Avast antivirus which is intercepting your mail. You would be well advised to turn off the Avast Mail shield; It does not add any additional security if you don't by attention elsewhere, and can cause problems.

I see that it is the record of mail in bulk that because of the problems in this case. Connect to the Web e-mail account and clear the items junk and deleted records.

BT is recommended to use SSL, but your original question indicated that SSL was not taken in charge for SMTP on port 25. I think we'd better go on all your settings. Recommendations of BT are on this page: BT email: what are the settings for outgoing and incoming mail servers?, but they only work if you disable Avast scanning mail.

Right-click on the account name in the folders pane, and then select Properties.

    • Under the servers tab, make sure that my server requires authentication is selected.
Select connect with authentication in clear text.
    • On the Advanced tab, select this server requires a secure connection (SSL) for both servers.
Make sure that the incoming (IMAP) port is 993 and port for outgoing (SMTP) is 465.

When you've made all these changes, close Windows Live mail and wait five minutes for the program do its cleaning and save the modified settings. Then, restart the computer and make sure that the Mail of Avast shield is always off.

Launch Windows Live Mail, then dial a new test message and send it to yourself. Post a new message in your response.

  • Cannot send emails. Message says "sending message failed because the connection to the server outgoing (SMTP) has expired. Is the fault with Thunderbird or BT?

Cannot send emails. Message says "unable to send message because the connection to the outgoing (SMTP) server has expired." By default the SMTP seems correct. Any ideas how to solve this problem?

Oh, we still think. Using anti-virus software? It scans your outgoing messages? Try to turn off the power; It can slow down transmission in order to trigger a timeout on the server.

  • When reading emails, said TB connected to the server, but is not download emails

The following suddenly started happening. (Things are working very well for several months on the same account settings).

When I try to retrieve the email from my IMAP e-mail server, there is a message at the bottom that says that Thunderbird is connected to the server, but nothing happens thereafter - no emails are downloaded.
Thunderbird invites me even a password to connect to the IMAP server as it usually does.

However, note that I * can * send emails without problem (via the configured SMTP server).
As well, I have no problem reading the emails on the server even on other customers of emails with same account settings.

The problem started after I upgraded to Thunderbird 38.2.0, an earlier version of a few months back).
Thunderbird prompted me to do the upgrade, and it can have kicked so he was still connecting and authenticating to the IMAP server - which is just speculate offshore.

Any ideas what I can do?

Details of the platform: Thunderbird 38.2.0, Windows 7 x 64, entering via the SSL Protocol IMAP, SMTP outgoing via the SSL protocol

    Thanks in advance

    Glen

Thunderbird 38 is indeed longer than previous versions... See my blog. There are a few things you can do. Ranging from Fix Security broken on the server to a temporary add-on which will establish market if the server hotfix is delayed.

  • Cannot send Emails - reception OK

Hi - I would be grateful if you could advise how to solve this problem. I can't send emails, but I am able to receive.
My ISP has notified that my settings are correct and the problem seems to be with Thunderbird.
I am using a PC with Windows Vista and run Thunderbird 31.5.0. Thank you.

I get the following error message:

"An error occurred sending a message: the mail server has sent a wrong message: unable to connect to the SMTP 211.29.132.250 (211.29.132.250:587), NB connect error 1460.":

Also when you click on account settings - outgoing server (SMTP):

"The path of the Local Directory"C:\Users\broder\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\mdsnvt19.default\Mail\Local records"is not suitable for the storage of messages. Please choose another directory. "

I would appreciate your response [also to my email address: [email protected]] very appreciated and many thanks
    Embroider Morris

If you select account settings and click on "outgoing (SMTP) Server", the screen must have at least one entry to show. Highlight it and check the settings. Your gmail configuration should look like this:
    Server name: smtp.googlemail.com
    Port: 465
    Username: [email protected]
    Authentication method: Normal password
    Connection security: SSL/TLS

Then return the account settings (click on name to email) and check the "outgoing (SMTP) server:" it should be the server you defined above: ' Google Mail - smtp.googlemail.com
    Click OK.

  • I can't send emails in Thunderbird and I tried all suggested fixes that I can find!

I moved my old MacBook Pro to a new MacBook Pro Thunderbird (I've done it before without any problem).
I've updated Thunderbird on two laptops before I did - version 31.0
Race the new machine 10.9.4 Mavericks

I started to notice intermittent problems with sending email - this seemed to release when I opened my BT mail account (the account that "feeds" Thunderbird) and then resend the email in Thunderbird.
This "correction" has now stopped working and all what I continually get when you try to send the message:

    "Send the Error Message
The message cannot be sent because the connection to the server of SMTP mail.btinternet.com has failed.
The server is may be unavailable or refuses the SMTP connections. "(etc.).

I checked with Mozilla and BT forums/help pages, then went to Thunderbird > tools > account settings > outgoing Server (SMTP) > change

Then, I changed the settings to those recommended by BT and Mozilla:
    Server name: mail.btinternet.com
    Port - 465
    Security - SSL/TLS
    Authentication: normal password
    -User name (username)

I also tried many variations (including the original settings)
    Server name: mail.btinternet.com
    Port - 587
    Security - no
    Authentication: password transmitted not securely
    -User name (username)

I tried to remove my password and then redo the especially.
I tried to turn the router and turn it back on and redo the especially.
Nothing - apart from not being able to send email from Thunderbird works fine with incoming, I think really that I have tried everything I can. Can I remove my prefs - will this help? Is there something I missed? I wasted 4 hours and it feels like 4 days!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good. When your problem has been fixed mark the thread as "Resolved" If you please.
    Thank you.
