Impossible to do a ping between 2 virtual machines

Hi all

I have 2 machines to vmware, one with Windows Server 2008 and the other are having windows 7. I am able to ping via direct IP but impossible to ping by hostname of windows 7 to windows server 2008. I can't understand what the request you to help me. I tried Googling, but I can't understand these methods. Please help me

Assuming that you don't have a DNS server in place, you must add the names and IP addresses for the files local hosts .

To do this open the file hosts in a text editor, for example

Notepad "% windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.

and add the following line

192.168.1.105 PeopleSoft

to it. Make sure that the file has a blank line at the end.

    Host-Only is VMnet1, you used only NAT. static use of intellectual property and switch to DHCP for now. Make sure that the VMWare DHCP Server service is running. Put network cards in comments to "host-only '.

    Post your host ' ipconfig/all'.

  • SRM 5.5 - vSphere replication - error: impossible to reverse the replication for the Virtual Machine. A snapshot operation cannot be performed

    Hi all, we have just run a test DR failover of a couple of virtual machines in our protected our failover site and all site swung perfectly, two virtual machines came online and all applications work well. However when we cam to r-eprotect machines virtual, we get some errors.

    One of the virtual machines seems to have lived the reprotect end process, it is still running, but has not moved to 89% for some time. The virtual machine has a couple of grand (a little less than 2 TB) VMDK. slow progress is just a consequence of the large VMDK?

    More worrisome is the virtual machine which don't reprotect at all. It generates an error whenever I click on the "Restore" button (error: impossible to reverse the replication for the Virtual Machine.) A snapshot operation can not be performed).

    Does anyone have any ideas as to the cause?

    Thanks in advance for any help.

    Andy

    Finally got to the bottom of this. The issue was that reprotect SRM work was trying to dispel any snapshots that were taken on the computer object virtual destination in VMWare, but could not clean snapshots.

    The reason why snapshots would not consolidate was because it was snapshots of temporary VEEAM who in fact any snapshot file listed in the VSAN data store. So when we looked through the browser data store, no snapshot file existed in the virtual computers folder. Trying a manual removal also failed.

    To fix this, we created a snapshot of the virtual machine in the original data center (note is the engine to the bottom of the virtual machine), this effect was to get rid of the 'fade' snapshot that was visible in the Snapshot Manager that VEEAM backup had left behind. Once this had disappeared, the reprotect back to DCA worked perfectly.

  • What is the interval of time between the virtual machine Linux and ESXi host synchronization?

    I have ESX5.0 with a centos6 installed on this linux virtual machine.

    After the installation of vmware for Linux virtual machine tools, I activated the time synchronization between the virtual machine linux and ESXi host through vmware-toolbox-cmd.

    I wonder what is the interval of time between the virtual machine linux and ESXi host synchronization? If I quickly time OS system, when the OS system time will sync back to the ESXi host?

    According to http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/techpaper/Timekeeping-In-VirtualMachines.pdf:

    By default, the demon checks the guest only once per minute operating system clock.

    However, depending on whether the guest is behind or in front of the result is different. So, please read the section "periodic synchronization" (at least) in the document mentioned above.

  • What is the difference between a virtual machine cloning and v2v conversion to a virtual machine

    What is the difference between a virtual machine cloning and v2v conversion to a virtual machine

    Cloning process is to duplicate a VM. V2V is deploy vm on vsphere environment to another virtual machine format (example: the workstation, hyper-v).

  • No network connection between the virtual machines on different hosts ESXi

    I have several 5.0 ESXi hosts in a cluster managed by vCenter Server 5 and I have network problems:

    1. [Host A] running a virtual machine can ping any other computer virtual running on the [host A] great!
    2. A virtual machine running on host [B] can ping any other virtual machine running on [B] home - very well!
    3. [host A] (from the ESXi console) can ping any virtual machine running on [B] home - even better!
    4. [B] home (from the ESXi console) can ping any virtual machine running [host A] - beautiful set!
    5. A virtual machine running [host A] can not ping any virtual computer running on host [B] and vice versa - bad, very bad!

    So basically the problem is that the virtual machines can communicate on hosts. It is a major problem that I need to fix, for obvious reasons.

    Networking on all hosts is configured exactly the same way: a unique and standard vSwitch with a pair of gigabit network cards grouped, vmkernels configured for the vMotion, NFS and network management and a group of ports configured for the VIRTUAL local area network used by the VMs. (vMotion works fine on hosts, storage vMotion works very well too.) All virtual machines are servers Windows (2003 and 2008).

    Reason #3 and #4 above, my assumption is that #5 must be the result of an ESXi/vCenter configuration issue and not a problem with the switches of material upstream. Is this a reasonable assumption?

    Whatever it is, can anyone offer suggestions on how can I fix? It is quite annoying as I'm pretty sure that these hosts are configured in the same manner as those of our production cluster, which does not at all these problems!

    Thanks in advance for any help you guys can provide.

    To be honest, it looks like a problem with your physical network-

    How is the physical network configured - are NIC connects it to the same physical switches? Are the virtual machines on the same subnet? If this is not the case, they are able to ping the gateway sbnet? Can you piing host IP address from the virtual machines?

  • Netem VM between two virtual machines? Is this possible?

    Hello

    I would use netem on a linux VM between two other virtual machines to simulate latency. Between Netem needs a machine with two network cards that he can fill. I've set up a VM on vSwitch0, a virtual machine on vSwitch1 and then an another VM with two network cards, one on each vSwitch. I thought that I create this box for use Netem and imitate and then between the two.

    Has anyone ever done something like this? I ran into a ton of problems and want to know if people have tried.

    I got it working by following these steps:

    1. create the computer virtual one with a NETWORK card on vSwitch0

    2. create a VM with a NETWORK card on vSwitch1 b

    3. create a VM n with a NETWORK card on vSwitch0 and vSwitch1

    4. set the port groups to vSwitch0 and 1 for the "Promiscuous" mode accept (from the default of rejection)

    5. set the n, a centOS VM VM for a networking interface using two network cards

    Note: maps network of VM's and b VM were located in the same subnet.

    Once step 5 start working and traffic exchange VM has and through VM n. b I have experienced a strong delay 5ms ping where there was a<1 ms="" delay="" on="" ping="" when="" vm="" a="" and="" b="" were="" on="" the="" same="" vswitch.="" i="" came="" in="" the="" next="" day="" and="" the="" delay="" was="" gone.="" no="" idea="">

    All the tricks to bypass and netem being by default in the installation of CentOS 6.4, I was able to establish conditions as the loss of delay and the package on the transport between the VM and VM n and b degraded as desired.

    The reason that I wanted this to be complicated as it is I can take a virtual machine of vSwitch 0 and pop in vSwitch1 and all of a sudden traffic to and since it undergoes degradation due to the conditions imposed by the bridge n Netem the VM configuration.

  • no connectivity between the virtual machines on the guest only network

    I have trouble getting the network connectivity between two Windows 7 computers using a guest only network virtual in VMware Player.  Each virtual machine is able to get a (unique) IP address via dhcp and can ping itself and the bridge, but could not reach the other system.  I looked on my host computer adapter VMnet1 in Wireshark and saw incoming icmp packets in, but nothing is returned new.  My vmnetdhcp.conf file is unchanged with the exception to add a line to set the default gateway on my guests.  It was an attempt to solve this problem, and the same behavior was observed before changing anything.  Here are the details for this network segment:

    subnet 192.168.184.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {}
    range 192.168.184.128 192.168.184.254;            # by default allows up to 125 VM
    option broadcast-address 192.168.184.255;
    option domain-name-servers 192.168.184.1.
    option domain-name "localdomain".
    routers option 192.168.184.1;  # This is the line, I added
    by default-lease-time 1800;
    Max-lease-time 7200;
    }
    host VMnet1 {}
    Hardware ethernet 00:50:56:C0:00:01;
    fixed-address 192.168.184.1;
    option domain-name-servers 0.0.0.0.
    option domain-name ";
    }

    Is there a problem with my configuration somewhere, or is it just a limitation of VMware Player?

    You may need to allow ICMP traffic of WF with Windows 7 as OS.

  • Network sharing between two virtual machines to XP

    Looks like it should be easy, but for some reason I can't make it work.  MacPro with two XP virtual machines running.  I want to share some files between virtual machines.  I tried to put them both in Bridge mode, but I was unable to ping each other.

    Is there anything else I need to do?

    I'm not too familiar with sygate.  As you have discovered, yes Windows Firewall allows for sharing of files across, but it disables ping responses (unless you enable it manually).  If you have Sygate running on one of these virtual machines, I would disable the windows one if you don't have multiple firewalls on the system for you in trouble...

  • Sharing the drive between several virtual machines

    Hi all

    We have a configuration with a SAN (Dell Compellent) and use vSphere 6 to host a number of Windows servers. We now have a giant machine of Windows with a large number of small files for a particular application.

    Now, we would like to create a cluster with a LoadBalancer in front of him, so that we can handle more load. To do this, we want to create a disk that is shared between 2 (or more) of windows machines.

    One of the problems is that NTFS is not a supported clustered file system. So, I did a lot of research on Google to see what my options are. In my opinion, they are the following:

    1. set up a Cluster Shared Volume (CSV) Microsoft (use SMB if I read the documentation)

    2. the user Windows shares on a separate file server

    3. the user NFS (depreacted under Windows)

    4. switch to Linux and use NFS

    The problem I have, is that they use all the network traffic. For example, option 2 is ridiculous slow. NFS under Linux is also a way slower than the local drive (managed by VMWare iSCSI) disk access and NFS on windows does not appear to be

    support very well.

    I know that there are aware filesystems, clustered as VMFS etc. Is there a way to access it directly from my Windows VM or are there devices SAN which is directly accessible from the virtual Windows machine?

    Or maybe there are other solutions to set up a shared drive?

    I know that there are aware filesystems, clustered as VMFS etc. Is there a way to access it directly from my Windows VM or are there devices SAN which is directly accessible from the virtual Windows machine?

    VMFS is a really clustered file system and allow access of multiple virtual machine the same amount of storage (data store) which is different from that to create a virtual disk (hard) and present to multiple virtual machines. You can do this, BUT the guest virtual machine should take care of several accesses to the hard, for Windows, you must turn on the feature... without this clustering with failover data may be corrupted.

    I think the best and supported solution for you is to create another cluster with Failover Cluster functionality and create a resource sharing files with files that will access your NLB nodes.

    I just installed Windows XP on a virtual computer by using Microsoft Virtual PC. However, when I try to activate the system, I get a message that online activation is not available at this time. • Unable to connect to use Windows XP mode on a Virtual Machine, cannot share files between the Virtual Machine and host

    Because of the need to run some XP programs, I ordered Win7 Pro and installed a Virtual Machine with XP Mode.

    Managed to get it going somehow, but does not connect to my home network (can't see any other computers, which seems to be common with the host of Win 7, but here, I managed to install quick links to other computers - they will not work in XP Mode), even if the Internet connection is working perfectly.

    In addition, I can't find a way to share files with the host country, drive C appears to be different from that of the hosts with no common points (where it is currently stored beats me).

    I can access a USB key, but only at a price to make it unavailable to the host and the attempt to release his capture when running XP Mode failed.
