Impossible to install OSX on a MacBook

MacBook: 7.1

Reference number: FC516LL/A (A1342)

bought as a refurb from Apple: September 2010

HDD (hard drive, original): Hitachi 5400 RPM 250 GB (mfg, April 2010)

SDD (new, solid state drive): Crucial MX200 250 GB

operating system: OS X 10.6.8

I'm upgrading to MacBook a friend.

The battery has been inflated, so I replaced it with a SKstyle laptop battery , which seems to work OK.  Bonus: it came with the screwdriver necessary to remove the battery: Philips #00 and Tri-Wing Y1 (which sounds like a spaceship from Star Wars ).

I also want to replace the original HARD with an SSD drive.  I could connect the SSD via the USB port and the HDD to the SSD to image.

However, when I try to

(1) start for the SSD with the SSD attached like an external USB, the MacBook drive he sees as a drive to boot - that is to say, START-> OPTION shows the SSD - but gives the following message is displayed:

"You must restart your computer.   Press and hold power for a few seconds or press the restart. »

This happens if I do nothing at the start, or press OPTION and select the SSD as the startup disk.

(2) start for the SSD using the connector SATA internal, I get the flashing folder-with-the-question-mark icon

(3) boot for the SSD using the connector SATA internal by pressing the OPTION key at startup, nothing happens.  It is never an option to select a startup disk.

This wouldn't be a problem if I could reinstall OS X for the SSD using the Mac OS X Snow Leopard installation DVD.  However, from the installation DVD is also translated "you must restart your computer.   Press and hold power for a few seconds or press the restart button.

The original HARD disk boots OK, attached as an internal SATA drive or an external USB drive.  However, I get the message "your computer clock is set to a date before January 1, 2008.  But he was doing it before I started tinkering with anything.

My questions are so

-Why not this boot for the solid state drive, and

-Why do start the installation DVD result in kernel panic message?

Thank you.

Put the SSD in the outer shell. Start the computer from the original HARD drive in the computer. Follow these steps:

Drive partition and format

1. open utility disk from the Applications\utilitaires folder.

2. after disk utility charges select the external hard drive (this is the entrance Out-bumpy with of the mfgr.) ID and size) in the list on the left. Click the Partition tab in the main window of disk utility.

3. in the title of the Volume entitled plan set the number of partitions in the menu drop-down one. Click the Options button, set the GUID partition scheme, and then click the OK button. Set the type of Mac OS extended (journaled) format. Click on the apply button and wait until the process is complete.

4. Select the volume you just created (it's the subentries under the entry for the road) in the list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of disk utility.

5. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). Click on the Security button, look for the button zero data and click OK to return to the window to erase it.

6. click on the delete button. The formatting process can take up to several hours depending on the size of the disk.

Once finished use disk utility to verify that the SSD is correctly partitioned and formatted. You can now clone SSD HARD drive. I think that Snow Leopard is OK with the cloning of a boot disk, so that:

Clone using disk utility Restore Option

1. open utility disk from the Applications\utilitaires folder.

2. Select the Destination volume in the list on the left.

3. click on the tab restore in the main window of THE.

4. Select the Destination volume in the left list and then drag

him the Destination entry field.

5. Select the volume of the Source of the list on the left and drag it to

the Source field.

6. check understood you, and then click Restore.

Destination means the external SSD. Source means that the boot disk internal.

I now open the startup disk and set the SSD as the diskette of starting, restarting the computer to be sure, everything is fine. Make sure that you set the date and time correctly.

In regards to the DVD, it's one provided with the computer originally? If you still have the panics of the kernel at startup, then it is a hardware problem in the computer itself. You can run the Apple Hardware Test to check the hardware - restart the computer. At the chime hold down the "D" key until the computer starts the AHT.

  • Impossible to install OSX on a Macbook pro 2009

I bought a 960 GB of Sandisk SSD to replace the hard drive in my MBP of 2009.   I backed up the existing time machine hard drive before replacing the drive.   Then I replaced the drive.   When you take control R on startup, I get the folder with exclamation mark warning.   So, I inserted the installation disk and then boot the disk containing the option at startup.   Now, the disk rotates forever (I let go 18 hours).

    Can anyone help?

    Hello

Try to run up all by holding down the Option key. Theoretically, that should launch the window of Boot Manager where you can select the startup disk, and then click on restart.

  • Impossible to install Office 2007 on Macbook/Fusion

I have a Macbook aluminium, and 2.01 Fusion.

Through consumption of Microsoft program has purchased Office 2007 (Enterprise Edition).  Comes on a DVD.  Can't get it installed - any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I insert the DVD (w/o the Fusion running), the disc spins and grinds for about 30 seconds, then spit out the DVD.  Did the same thing when Fusion (XP VM) is running.  So, as is, I can not install off this DVD directly on the virtual machine - the computer will never even show the disc.  I checked the disc with other media, and it works very well; In addition, checked the DVD on a PC XP and this computer has recognized the disc very well.

Tried to watch, found some older threads with similar problems, but no result.  Here's what I tried, without success:

Insert the DVD in the drive of my PC XP networked and shared this drive.  Could see the files on the DVD in the player shared under OSX.  Copied all files to the Macbook on a shared folder with the VM XP and I could then see the files of the virtual machine and run the install, but it gets stuck you are looking for the file "setup.xml" after I select which parts of the Office I want to install, even when pointed to the specific directory, the location of the file.  Cannot get past this error message and I cancel the installation.

Then, use disk utility to create a CD image (with the source being the shared drive w / disc). I burned the image on a new DVD.  Now, OSX will accept and can see files on DVD recently burned.  However, when I start the XP VM, it does not recognize the drive.  The virtual machine recognize other media in this drive, however, so I don't think it's a problem of General settings now.

I don't know if it's a sort of Microsoft security measure, or what... Have not been able to find a solid answer after a search, so I can get this wrong and that's the problem.  I don't think it's a physical disk problem, because the original disc was accessible on an XP PC.

Since you have a Windows system available that can read DVD discs I make an ISO Image of the DVD disc on Windows system and then move the ISO Image via the network or other methods, to the Mac and then attach the ISO Image to the Virtual Machine's CD/DVD drive and install the iSO Image form.

  • Impossible to install CS4 Master Collection on MacBook Air

I installed CS4 Master Collection on my iMac. But I can't install it in my MacBook Air. It always shows the sign of the "installation Preparation" for centuries. I tried several times, but it still does not work. What's wrong? I do a cleaning making sure that there is no part of the software installed previously?

Will I just download the free trial of Photoshop online and then use the CS4 MC serial code to make it work?

I really need help with that. I need to install at least the Photoshop for my trip to the Iceland photography course.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Cannot install OSX!

    Hello

Earlier today, I accidentally erased my drive HARD integer (own diskpart). It's true: no more side MAC and no recovery partition. I have a Macbook Pro mid-2009 which was given to me a month ago. I don't have the Mac OS x installation disc.

I tried to install Windows 8 and 10, but two installers stuck to the Windows Logo. I made a Yosemite OSX (from the Macbook Air of friend) bootable USB. Which stalls too. I tried two different usbs. At the present time, my hard drive 120 GB SSD is configured for Windows. It is empty because windows install has failed.

I'm at a loss to know what to do. What is going on?

Given that your Mac is too old to use Internet retrieval, you must boot from the installation for you DVD Mac and reformat the drive HFS + and partition GUID mapping.

Once you get this system reinstalled, you will need to upgrade the operating system from there.

If you do not have a valid backup, all your data will be lost by reformatting.

  • Impossible to install El Capitan on new SSD

Trying to install El Capitan on using the method of USB drive on my mid 2012 13 "macbook pro (9.2) and I can't seem to make it work at all. Using a SSD 240 GB PNY CS1311. When it starts to install El Capitan I get about a minute before it stops and says "OS X can not be installed on your computer. Could not complete copy. I tried several times without a bit of luck, and from the start of my laptop for the first time with the SSD, I erased, then formatted with OS X Extended (journaled) and GUID, score card, so I know that it is properly formatted.

I managed to install OSX on my old HARD drive using the same USB so I don't really know if that is the question.

All the tips are greatly appreciated.

I try to get Internet (OPTION-COMMAND-R) and try to install the original OSX your MBP came with.  This at least will give you a functional MBP.  Retry installation El Capitan.

You will need a strong Internet connection.

    Ciao.

Impossible to install the Safari extensions; error message

    Hello

Make sure that OS X and Safari are up-to-date.

Open system preferences > App Store, then click on: check now

Your profile says your Mac works v10.11.1. The v10.11.5 update is available. This is maybe the reason why you can not install the Safari extensions.

Install OSX 10.11.4 I do cleaning but R command will not work. With the help of USB keyboard so not wifi issues to to worry. Help?

Would you like to share why you must do a clean install?

You can try the recovery of the internet (which will work if your older model has been updated to enable of): hold command + Option + R until you see a progress bar (take a while). It will connect you to the Apple servers. When you see the utility window, choose disk utility to erase your disk and when you're done, choose to reinstall OS X.

Computers that can be upgraded to use OS X Internet Recovery - Apple Support

PS: Correction: I think not yours can be updated; in this case, you will need the original installation disks to wipe the drive and reinstall.
