Impossible to put adobe reader by default app in win 10

New computer running windows 10, downloaded the latest adobe player and says he is the default for pdf files.   When I right click on a file with extension pdf, it comes back and says cannot open.  I start software adobe reader and it will ask if I want her to be default, whenever I start the drive.   One reason why the setting is NOT defined?

Hi Virgilijus, slope of Grahame, Jason Freeman

If you use DC, try the fix from here: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/release-note/acrobat-dc-november-25-2015.html

Or try the steps mentioned in the article: Reader/Acrobat is not the default PDF owner | Windows 10 threshold 2

Thank you

  • PDF Adobe Reader by default manager process

Currently, we use Adobe Reader XI in a Windows 7 environment but have recently been deploying PowerPDF of shade to complete. Adobe Reader XI is still the default, but some sites have had problems - we found the solution is to open Adobe Reader, select Edition-> general Preferences and click Select Manager of default PDF. This solves our problem by running a Setup program and eventually fix any files have been modified by the PowerPDF, same if PowerPDF was never defined as the default value.

The problem is that we do for over 900 users in several offices. Y at - it a command or an automated way to run this process through Group Policy or a script? It is not as simple to select only a default file association, that he must perform as exactly the processes of whatever by clicking on "select default PDF handler" don't. Thank you!

While comparing registry PowerPDF install vs the default PDF Manager process I think I could find a solution to the issue - it is the result of the install of PowerPDF deletion of a registry key.

With XI of Adobe installed before PowerPDF, the following key exists:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content-MIME/pdf

    It contains the following strings:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content MIME/pdf\Extension: ".pdf".

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content MIME/pdf\CLSID: "{CA8A9780-280D-11CF-A24D-444553540000}.

When installing PowerPDF, I confirmed that the whole key for HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\MIME\Database\Content MIME/pdf is removed, even if PowerPDF is configured to not be by default in the Customization Wizard of their. I could see that running Adobe "Select default PDF Manager" adds the back, the question of fixing. Fortunately, adding back registry keys are an easy solution.

  • Impossible to uninstall Adobe Reader 10.1.3. Error - the patch package could not be opened.

Original title: Add or remove programs, what is meant by a hotfix package?

I am trying to remove the program Adobe Reader 10.1.3 & when I try to remove it, I get an error message that reads: the patch package could not be opened.  Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows setup hotfix package.

    Hello

A Windows Installer patch (.msp file) is a file used to provide updates for Windows Installer applications. The fix is a stand-alone package that contains all the information needed to update the application.

A hotfix package contains updates the actual application and describes which versions of the application can receive the fix.

Sophie never came back, so we do not know if it has ever solved its problem, but it worked for most people. You can try to use this tool first remove all traces of your computer:

Then you can download the full Setup offline reader for the version you want from

After downloading, restart your computer and run the Setup program before anything else.

  • Impossible to uninstall Adobe Reader 8.1.5

I want to remove Adobe Reader 8.1.5 for my computer and install a new version. But I can't remove the Reader8.1.5 using the function "Add or remove a program", in fact there is no "Delete" button shown next to this software.

I click on the Reader 8.1.5 icon in the start menu > all programs > Adobe Reader 8, there is a window that showed the following sentence:

"This patch package could not be opened. "Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that is is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

    How to remove Reader8.1.5?

Don't know if this works with Reader 8, but there is no harm in trying to use this tool:

  • Cannot open .pdfs via Outlook or Adobe Reader, impossible to open Adobe Reader, it is impossible to uninstall!

We have a new office that will not open .pdfs or open Adobe Reader.  The version on the computer is 9.5.2.  When I try to install the updates or install Adobe XI, the installation process stops before the end because he said that Adobe 9.5 is currently open.  But we cannot open Adobe 9.5, and the Task Manager does not appear even the program as being open.

I tried to uninstall the program, but were unable to for the same reason.

You can try to use this tool to remove all traces of the previous versions of the player:

    TA and greetings, jim [macsproot

Make sure you download the installation files Adobe Reader first.

Close all programs including web browsers as Adobe Reader adds extensions for your favorite web browser.

You must also run the System File Checker utility and temporarily disable your anti-virus utility:

    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: sfc/scannow

This will check for any breach of integrity

    Restart your system

If the program persists, try to download the full Setup files:
