Impossible to rename/delete/file stubborn (long file name)

I have a file (that I could rename 'Test') that contains 2 files. A file 'XXX.html' and his 'XXX_files' file with a long name (about 20 words). No matter how hard I try, I'm not able to delete the folder, or the 'Test' that contain.

In addition, the XXX_files folder is not accessible when I try to open it (error "syntax is incorrect").
The funny part is that I am not able to rename one of them with a shorter name. When I try to do, I get a message saying that the specified file name is too long!

I tried the following methods:
  1. "Del" key
  2. "Shift" + "Del" key
  3. "File shredder", a 3rd party software
  4. "7 zip", a different 3rd party software
  5. Command: rmdir /s q, DEL command (for the folder that contains these 2 files) after the end of the Explorer
Please help me!

I fell on the same topic, like bradex:

Had a file in Ubuntu with illegal characters (': 'and' \'): it cannot be renamed, and even from dir /x could not generate its short name. Google brought me here so I later on found this proposal for a solution and this worked for me. :)
I hope this helps someone who comes here and also has the same problem.

    Hello

This problem could be related to the mouse settings. Try to change the speed of the mouse buttons and check if it helps:

It will be useful. If you have additional questions on the computer, please ask your question about Windows and we will be happy to help you.

Hi Rohit... Thanks for your reply.

However, the problem is with the mouse itself. I went there with a mouse to another system of windows desktop 7 I and problems went away.

Here's the weird part, I naturally assumed that I would see the same problems on the desktop.

Much to my surprise the problems did not "transfer"!  the mouse that failed on the laptop is now working very well on the office... so I'll attribute it to the 'EMI of sunspots";-)

  • Impossible to rename the files individually or using rename the lot?

Hi, I searched everywhere for a solution to this, but mostly, I see only similar questions which have not been answered. I use CC bridge and suddenly can't rename a file or a folder either individually or by using the commands rename. I'm asked to clear my cache whenever opens the bridge, despite having done that, once again, whenever opens the bridge. Really hope that there is a difficulty? Thanks for any help!

    Salvation of the North-London-photographer

    Greetings.

    • Try resetting Bridge preferences.

      • Start Adobe Bridge, and immediately press Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Windows) or command + Option + shift (Mac OS down) until the dialogue box reset settings appears. Select all three options - reset preferences, reset Standard Workspaces and all miniature Purge Cache - and then click OK.
    • Once done then try to rename a file and see if it works or not, if not what is the error message.

  • Rename the file name background layer and move up

I need a script that I can run at the end of an action to rename the name of the background layer and move it to the top of all the layers and hide visibility.

That's what I want the layers of final document to look like, of course "filename" is the name of the file of the document itself. If I can change it to .jpg instead of a tif which would also be very useful.

I use CC 2015 the more up-to-date version.

I found these scripts that are not exactly what I need, but close and I can't understand how to manipulate.

    Script layer moves

Open, do, and rename the layer "Julieanne Kost's Blog

Update: now, I think that this may be totally useless. Because of this, I wanted the original filename.jpg was so I could export the image as an asset later on the road. I just tried to create the image assets and found that it creates a folder for each file, so if someone can think of a better way, awesome.  I was able to create action and move all my layers of setting down instead of trying to move the layer of file name up and it worked, but because each file name is different I can't select and hide in my action. There is a solution simple but do not do exactly what I need.

  • Impossible to rename the files in the folder "" downloads ".

I can not rename all the files in the folder "downloads" on my computer Windows 7 ". I don't get an error message, it just does not get renamed. Happens with new records and old folder that already could be renamed. Sometimes with the right click 'Rename' way and Captain F2. It happens also if I press 'Enter' or if I just click outside the folder after renaming it.

This is the kind of annoying to have three folders called "New folder (2)" etc. may not be renamed.
I saw 1 post this topic on another forum, but no solution, so I thought I'd ask. It has been like this for a long time, and I don't remember if a special event or a well triggered it.

Well, it happened to me and I just thought about it.

See if you use a shortcut to the folder. If you are, try to enter the folder path (usually C:\Users\*Name of the user\Downloads) and see if you can rename the things out there. If you can, just press Backspace and create a shortcut from there.
In my case, this problem happened because I accidentally deleted the shortcut I used for this folder, and to make the shortcut again once I used the fuction 'Search' to find and create the .encre. But when I did, the Windows 7 created the shortcut with the search path, being % search % downloads and so on. What is the fuction 'Rename' to stop working.]
Weird, for sure. But okay, I worked here. Heh
  • How can I get Windows Vista to stop the shortening of long file names?

I copy the files with long names in .zip files. Whenever I drag a drag the file to .zip (also with a long name) file, it renames the .zip file in a much shorter name. This only happens on my computer, my wife can perform the same task that I'm with her computer, and it won't rename the file name. We're both under Windows Vista. Is there a way I can get to rename the files? Thank you!

  • Hi, I just upgraded from 6.1 to 6.4 LR LR. When importing new files LR6.4 cannot rename my files with a specific date format (import uses only the original name).

    Hello

No problem with the LR 6.1, but now (LR6.4), it seems impossible to rename my files with a specific format (yyyy-dd-hhmmss and a suffix) importing memory cards. LR imports only files with names of origin. And I have a lot of files to rename...

I hope that someone knows what's going on.

    Jean,

We found a similar question which is being implemented. If you shoot images at once in the first and jpg format and then import them using the option of renaming, the question is in place.

Could you please check if you use the option "make a second copy? If so, please it deselect. It should solve the problem.

The issue is addressed in Lightroom.

  • Impossible to rename files in Windows 7 "cannot find this item.

Since the last batch of updates of Windows 7 (KB915597, KB3179573, KB3115475, KB3177723 and KB915597), suddenly I am completely impossible to rename the folders, even newly created. When I try, I'm greeted by an error message indicating:

I clearly see that the file has not changed, and hit the "Try" button again makes the error message disappears for a split second before returning again.

I am sure that no recent updates is responsible and this uninstallation of the update should solve the problem, but I don't know enough about them to 99.99969999503% (or how exactly the origin of the problem) to determine what. No one knows that one is?

  • Cannot delete files - file name too Long

I copied all the files under C:\Users\ to a backup disk (NTFS).  Then I tried to delete the Temporary Internet Files folder.  I'll tell an error message:

The file names would be too long for the destination folder.  You can shorten the file name and try again, or try a location with a shorter path.

  • Cannot delete files with long file names in Windows 7

Unnecessary Windows 7 will not erase a file whose name is too long. I have no name, it is in a temporary folder of IE. I can't get rid of it as options to rename will not be visible.

Thanks, but I have solved the problem. The error message was about 'file path or destination file name is too long. It is the backup to the temporary internet file that was causing a problem: he made the PATH too long as she added additional elements on the path. That was simply solved by the path to 2 bits, (path upper and lower file path) to cut and remove separately.

When I tried to delete the .jpg image with the extremely long filename at the end of the long path he says as the destination folder (ie the TRASH) could not hold the file due to excessive length. It's confusing to say the least.

Anyway that little trash has bit the dust.

  • Impossible to delete files that have already been deleted?

There are about a dozen files on my computer that I can't get rid of.  They are all 0 bytes long.  I think I tried to remove them and their data has been deleted, but the filenames themselves could not be removed because they contain illegal characters.

    3. Answer 'Y' to the question and press to enter.
    4. Restart when you have to run the error checking.
Note: you can also check the hard drive for bad sectors, but this may take several hours. You can use chkdsk/r.
  • Cannot delete a file in windows 7. Indicates the specified file name is not valid or too long.

Hello everyone, I'm pretty stuck here. I can't delete a file in windows 7 or any other do with it besides. Says "the specified file name is not valid or too long. It has a funny name [~ t] and no extension. The file type, say "file". The properties are all screwed looking with a mistake on the Security tab, a size of 0 k, is a Windows (c) \Windows\en-US.The other files in this folder appear normal. The computer seems to work very well without any obvious problems. The only problem is my anti-virus reports with a kind of syntax for the file error and indicates it cannot parse this file. I do not. I can't do a thing with it either. Cannot open, rename, move, delete, change passwords, properties, permissions, nothing. It may be necessary for a good part with 0kb. According to me, I want to just delete the thing. Please, anyone? Thanks in advance.

Hey bud, I figured out how fix it earlier. I am so happy. I came to remember a command called chkdsk which worked very well for various issues, that I had since the construction of my old 2000 Professional machine. I think that one was my first NTFS system. I always liked how well he error correction. Seemed a lot better than the old scandisk. Low and behold, I tried and star ANISE, it is went through it, found this file almost from the beginning of the analysis and a few lines later, he said has been removed. Says something about the file being orphaned some time ago. It was a very bad child, that I tell you. I ran it in safe mode command prompt. I guess he would have done the same thing in the normal windows well, but I happened to be in safemode, when it came to me. I used the switch /f with her. Since the C:\ command prompt or any drive letter your operating system is selected, type CHKDSK/F if I remember although the f was to have it automatically CORRECT errors. I hope this info helps others with their file or disk problems. It seems that many people say they get mistakes and cannot delete various files here in these forums. Thanks Sandeep for answering me and try to help. It does not matter whether or not it was the fix, it takes time to post and your helping people learn to be it. The only thing that remains unanswered for me is actually the thing of the answer. I mean I can't say someone at - it really answered my question and do not count me? Maybe I should mark so that people will bother to read it and get the fix. HMMMM... I come back here some time later and see whats up.  SeeYou, EWOO
