  Here's how:

  Tools > Options > general (or Firefox > Options > Options > general)

  Here, in the home page section you can enter the address of the page you want to select as your homepage. Also if you are on the page you want to set as the home page, you can select the use current page (so if you don't know the full address, you visit the page and then do as I said). If you want to select a bookmark, you can select use bookmark , and then choose a bookmark as home.

  My problem started yesterday and I can't seem to fix the problem. Everytime I open firefox I am met with the annoying message of restoration, (it is usually boring, but because it happens every time I start firefox it really starts to bother me) even if I close all my tabs before hand, close firefox and then quit the program entirely.   You could try to go to Tools > Options > privacy and delete the individual cookie for this site. You can also try going to Tools > Options > Security and verify that the site is not in your list of exceptions.

  I had not restarted after you disable the SearchMenu. After you restart, it would seem that the problem was, in fact, SearchMenu. That was my suspicion. Once finding highlights a 'word' SearchMenu interrupts to offer her services. I guess I'll post on their advice, to see if there is a solution.

  Private browsing enabled or "never remember history" being selected would cause that in Firefox 50.0, but the 50.0.1 update was a fix for this problem.
